hi, I’m a complete novice so no offense taken 🙂

I have managed to create a route in BC itself. However, not all map data is that good, where I ride locally the map data is large scale. So I googled and found you could use google maps. I used satellite view and drew my route. Saved it as gpx but the gpx file can’t be seen. I’ll try some of the things you suggest, cheers

Hang on, isn’t Fukishima still pissing radioactive cooling water back into the sea? They can’t fix the problem they can only keep pumping in sea water to cool the rods? This water pisses back out into the sea. If anything stops the water being pumped onto the rods then its bye bye to most of Japan.

Yes sounds great. Tsunami is not an english word so it couldn’t possibly happen here. Oh except that it probably did 400 years ago. But I’ll just stop eating fish fingers so that will be fine.

You don’t need to be scared of getting mugged in the woods. Don’t worry! Muggers are also scared of the dark, they won’t be in the woods.

Loners are the ones to worry about. Loners dressed up in camo gear. Those who like fantasising about killing people with their crossbow. They are the ones to worry about. They might even rape you just for the power trip.

    Enjoy the ride!

1×11 30t front 42t rear for me. I find this perfect and I only ever run out of gears on road which I tend to avoid anyway. I use the 42t rear quite a bit as I tend to take it as easy as I can on the ups. I go fairly quick down hill and have never spun out of gears. People I ride with reckon they would spin out downhill with my gearing but we still ride at a similar pace. I guess it is a bit of a personal thing. I’d start with 30t x 42t, you can always change the front ring if its not right.

A hope tapered crown race seems to fit an onone smoothie mixer headset. I guess you need to trial it to be sure. Might be best just to buy a chris king crown race, are they reassuringly expensive?

Ive also now read that 10 speed links work with 11 speed chains, they connect up with a tug rather than pliers. So thats also an option….

I got the ibert seat. Its front mounted. I’ve used it with all 3 of my children and its been great for us. I generally think front mounted seats are better because the child is more involved with you. The ibert allows you to put your head right next to theirs which is nice. Its simple in design but I don’t think thats a bad thing. The seat is wobbly on its mount which draws criticism, but once the child is in the seat the wobbling is not really noticeable, I certainly don’t find it an issue when riding. The ibert keeps the childs legs forward away from the pedals. I can’t recommend it enough. We tend to only ride for about an hour on fire roads mostly, I can’t remember any of them falling asleep. I think 1 was the age where we started using it. I’m still using it with my youngest who is 3.

On long rides I drink coconut water and it definitely seems better than water alone. Apparently its full of naturally occuring electrolytes, it has a kind of sweet/sweaty taste that I’ve grown to like! Its not packed full of sugar. Quite expensive but effective. I dilute it around 50/50 with water.

get an ebike? One over took me on a climb at llandegla a while back and wearing a full face helmet too. I was quite jealous as my lungs were screaming for air. The climbs at llandegla seem pretty taxing to me, I wouldn’t call them boring, they are just tougher than most other north wales trail centrem climbs. or thats how I find them at least. You see a lot of people pushing at Llandegla which is unusual elesewhere.

I have 3 daughters and I’ve currently got a Spesh Hotrock, Frog 48 and Frog 52. The Spesh is not that well designed for little people, they have all struggled with it. The Frog bikes by comparison are great. I considered Isla but by the time you customise them the price is way more than Frog. To me the quality of both Isla and Frog seemed similar. Resale is less of a concern for me as 3 people will use each bike.

2.5″ barons on crest? Are you sure? no leakage through the walls at all with 2.5″, these are heavy, thick walled DH tyres. Did you set up the 2.3″ non black chilli Baron? Different animal entirely.

The 2.5″ is such a heavy walled tyre that the air entering doesn’t push the tyre wall to the rim. Normally a bit of washing up liquid helps bridge the gap but I found these to be a nightmare to seal. I managed it but washing up liquid everywhere by the time it was done.

Yes I’ve done it but it was the hardest tyre I’ve ever set up. 2.5″ BC on flow rims.
Using an aldi compressor and almost a whole bottle of washing up liquid. needed a lot of perserverence! I was glad I’d done it in the end.

I have a 2014 capra pro, I also sold the mavic wheels as they were terrible. I replaced with arch on hope and all good now.

I think the Rockshox options are probably safer than Bos, my Bos fork is a bit noisey, it works well but so would the pike. Also the 170mm travel deadens many trails, so the riding can be less fun. Its great on full on dh trails and it climbs well. You can easily ride around xc trails its just makes them a feel little featureless at times. Putting the rear shock into climb mode would probably help, I should try this….

if you get the model with mavic wheels, i’d sell them imediately, you’ll get good money for them as they look so bling. Even second hand mine paid for my new wheels and some cash to spare. and the new wheels are miles better.

I tend to run between 20-30 psi depending on conditions. Rubber Queen/Trail King in 26 and 27.5 going back several years now. They would be really shite at 50 psi thats for sure.

The chin stay of the carbon capra is aluminium.

There was an issue when the bike was first released, this resulted in frames being replaced under warranty, that issue was fixed by design change but the cracked frames fear mongering has lingered. I don’t think there is an issue now.

I like mine, I have a carbon capra pro. It was great at Hopton uplift yesterday, it excelled in the roots and was really nimble. The suspension is a bit excessive for a lot of trails and it irons out some of the fun. It is close to being a dh bike but very light/nimble and climbs well. There is no catch. It is a quality product at a great price.

I’ve got an ardent UST 2.2? thats one ride old if anyone wants it?
I used it as a rear and I found the same issue as the OP. Took it off after one ride.

no I’ve had a login for years, why do you ask? You’ve not been snooping around my recent activity like sad, stalking freak have you? 🙂

I also had the cockcam, the guide to prise the bellend open was really sore, especially as it kept popping out. By the 3rd time it was inserted I had sweat running down my forehead. Told the nurse that if it popped out again it wasn’t going back in. She asked me if I was pushing it out on purpose! I can’t fire fkn ping pong balls out of it my dear! I felt thoroughly violated by the end of it.

I have suffered many such infections over the years. Once you develop one then antibiotics are needed. One thing that keeps them from arising in the first place is drinking D-mannose powder. This is essentially the sugar of the cranberry extracted and powdered. It binds to the ecoli in the bladder (the principle cause of UTI)and then you urinate it out. I guess the ecoli is always hanging around but certain conditions cause it to get out of control. Dmannose powder keeps it in check. It really works as a preventative measure, it can also stop a UTI in the early stages, but not if its left too long, then you need antibiotics IME. Quite pricey but better than taking antibiotics. I buy the NOW foods version.

After a lot of thought, I’m thinking of prioritising low weight over suspension. Perhaps using a larger volume front tyre as suggested earlier. A fork could be really good for her in some ways but I think not with such a % weight penalty. Its probably better to go for the lighter bike until she is stronger. You learn skills on a rigid anyway.

She has a Frog bike and loves it, so I’ll probably go with the 20″ version if I can find one, they seem to be out of stock online.

I went on winstanleys and found loads of options, so really not sure now.

tempted by this fat bike, 28t front ring and 32-11 cassette

    Its 399 on winstanleys

11.3kg so far heavier than frog or isla. It may be too fatiguing for long rides. Her wrists were feeling it the most but if we get a damped heavier bike it might just shift the problem elsewhere. Its a tricky decision.

Can’t see that hatter. Think work system blocks it?

If an air fork was designed specifically for really light riders then it would be good. I’m guessing from my quick search that one doesn’t exist.

I’ll go with the next size frogbike if there is no suspension fork worth having. We have a hotrock but the kids don’t really get on with the pedal back brake and the front brake is hard for them to apply. Frogbike brakes are much easier to use for little hands in our experience.
I’m going to sell a pink hotrock if anyone is interested. North of Coventry.

I changed the tyres and no longer have an issue. The beads audibly pinged into the rim at 50psi. I don’t think I ever got the mavic tyres seated properly, I didn’t bother trying again as they weren’t great anyway. Low pressures are fine now, no burping so far. (New tyres are conti trail king protection)
I rode at a hopton on Xmas day and using low pressures on the roots gives a massive increase in grip.

I think my Pro cost £3,340 with a spare mech hanger.

here is my honest opinion 2 rides in. (I’ve come from a Cotic Rocket (run with both Bos Deville and Pike) and I own a dh bike)

I like it A LOT. It descends like a mini dh bike and climbs well. Its so light!
I can’t wait until I ride it again and I haven’t felt like that in a while.

    Weak points.

BOS Kirk is leaking air albeit slowly. You need to check the pressure each ride as it drops a little. Its slow enough that it doesn’t drop during a ride. Takes a few days. Met someone today who said his does the same. Could send it back but then I wouldn’t be able to ride…… BOS make products that perform well but they are well dodgy in the quality control/customer service dept.

It pedal strikes quite easily, but the crank arms are 5mm longer than I’m used to. I’ll get used to it.

I hear the rear mavic enduro wheel is a bit weak. I’d prefer stans rims on hope hubs, although these mavics look so enduro in yellow

The Bos suspension is indeed a bit noisey. (I recommend Loco tuning for Bos servicing)

Nearly everyone seems to be getting one.

    Strong points

It feels effortless to ride it quick.

    The frame is aesthetically gorgeous.

The 11 speed sram drive chain is awesome and I didn’t think I’d be bothered.

It just feels ‘right’ straight away. 780mm bars dont feel too wide, they feel awesome.

Everything seems perfectly integrated (I’m thinking the way the Rocket droplink pivot bolts bruise my calves here!)

The Bos suspension peerforms really well.

The sram controls look really neat as they all integrate onto a single bar clamp.

Yay! Everyone has one, its like a friendly community of Capra love on the trails.

If you like descending and have the money, just get one. Its as good a bike as you can ride right now.
This 170mm travel bike genuinely doesn’t feel any less capable of climbing than my Rocket, it actually seems to climb better, perhaps due to the lower weight.
I don’t think it matters that much which spec you get. Bos can be a pain in the arse but they are good when they work. If you can’t live with that potential hassle then get the Pike version.

Mine was in stock and delivered in a few days after the money transfer. I checked moneysavingexpert forum thing and think I used FX. They were cheap but a bit slow, their money laundering checks delayed the deal by a few days.

    theendisnigh

oh well thats encouraging to hear. I quite like the tyres, burping aside.
Are they difficult to seat in your experience? I thought 70 psi would do it!

    theendisnigh
    Free Member

Maybe Mavic rims simply aren’t as good as Stans then. I could run 15psi and not burp with my Stans rims, with a range of tyres.

I’m still hopeful its a seating issue but your 30 psi minimum worries me.

    theendisnigh
    Free Member

I’m going to tackle them again later, see if I can seat it correctly, thats got to be it I suppose. Perhaos they are trickier to seat than stans.
These are mavic tyres suggested for their own tubeless system, theyve got to work surely?! I’ll update how I get on.

    theendisnigh
    Free Member

yeah no lower than that, actually they were probably at about 25 today. It seems its likely to be a tyre seating issue then. Have you used the mavic charge and roam tyres?
