I’ve just fitted some 08 55 ata’s with 09 internals in them. Still bedding them in a bit but no probs with the ata, tho i suspect im never gonna get the specified travel out of them. I had a concern that there was play between leg and stancion at full extension but i’m assured this is normal. And internet research backs this up. Nice fork, but only bought em cos i got em cheap from distributors windwave.

I was thinking more about the Grouse annihilators you get up there in August. But point taken!

I lack the intelligence to distinguish between bridleway or footpath! However i would tend to avoid this area on or around the 12th of August!!

Yeah thats prob it, sounds vaguely fimiliar!! I remember a scheme in the courier a few years back where if you took in a dog from the RSPCA you got given half an acre!! I’m a Norland moor regular and theres a bloke up there with an excitable labradoodle, its no harm and its just being friendly but the owner is a bit softly spoken and petrified your gonna beat the dog!!

Fitted superstar ones for our annual lets push up Snowdon jaunt and they didn’t like coming back down at all!!! In fact one pad didn’t make it to the bottom, to be fair tho i fitted the cheapest ones, not sintered. So its a case of you get what you pay for i guess.

I’ve just made one for the patriot, wrapped old innertube round very tightly, make sure its a long enough length to do the whole chain stay and back again then you can super glue it in place without damaging the frame, do it outside tho cos you get some funky fumes off the glue and rubber!! Just gonna go get some insulation tape to cover it and then i’m off to test!!

Thanks nige, I remember walking up there with school many, many years ago and there is a bit somewhere where a quarrying viaduct used to stand, i think!!! I’m just gonna head up there and see whats what!! I’ve never had any grief from walkers anywhere!!! I think it must be the tattoos!!!

I just went t’other way and went from coil front and rear to air front and rear, mainly cos i got the shock and forks very cheap, Fox DHX air and Marzocchi 55 ata. I realise that both these items are designed for more aggressive riding and as such will have more reliability built in. I’ve found the rear shock to be a revelation compared to the manitou swinger unit i was previously using, simple matter of setting the sag, i set a third of stroke length if i’m just riding trails and i set it to a quarter sroke length for rougher trips, it has the advantage of a piggy back boost chamber whichhelps for big hit stuff, i lke the way air shocks ramp up toward the end of the stroke too.
The jury is still out on the forks tho, but i’m still getting my head round them, just setting the sag doesn’t seem to work as well as the shock. And theres alot of bedding in stiction too. All in all i’m glad i did it. Weird thing is i did it cos i didnt think i was as aggressive a rider as i used to be but i’ve regressed into silliness since the changes!! Oh well!! Oh forgot to mention its all on an Orange patriot 66!!
