I can totally understand why people dont rate LBS’s. I walked into my LBS t’other day and i was ignored for 15 mins while staff were chatting in workshop upstairs, they cant have failed to hear me come in cos its a bloody loud bell and i shouted upstairs. I made a point of walking out when the staff finally surfaced. As such i’ve swapped LBS allegience!!

I’d rather not ride on the road at all but its unavoidable, dont give a crap what drivers think of me tho. I had a mate tho got carved up by a bunch of chavs in a body kitted corsa, so he slapped the wing when they stopped at the lights and half the panels fell off!!! Funny.

‘You may probably be best running a chain device too. Double ring and single ring set ups tend to equal chain coming off.’

Never had a moments problem with the chain coming off while running double!!!

Thats it!!! The MOD are working on a pedal-bourne infantry and Calderdale/Oxenhope and surrounding environs are such a hotbed of bike activity that we’re being spied upon so the MOD can get a combat bike up and running!! Orange blood-bath in camo anyone??? (Better than purple!!)

I had my Patriot rigged up towards downhill but recently changed it back to single crown forks and air shock, i have no regrets cos im twice as nutty with the new set up!!!

Good job i’m not a conspiracy theorist!!! But why the sudden RAF activity!! Perhaps oil has been discovered in Todmorden and they’re expecting an imminent U.S invasion!!

Then yeah, but if your not racing then i wouldn’t get a dedicated downhill rig (unless you can afford it!!!) Alot of big hitting bikes out there that will serve you just as well!!

Competitive Downhill? Or just for shits and giggles??

There must be something they’re up to cos a hercules plane was doing figure 8’s round the valley a few month back too.

Only disadvantage is not having a big ring (ooo-errr). You might spin out of gears on certain downhills but that’ll be rare!! And for keeping your legs/rings intact its ideal! Just dont forget to adjust limits on your derailleur!!

I always assumed the idea of a double is mainly for the bash guard aspect, i use a double 22-36 and rarely use the 22, i dont miss the triple at all. I’m liking the idea of the hammerschmidt too!! Shame its so expensive!

What exactly are we meaning by big-big 36t-???

Er, i have to ask why you’d want to???

Depends how far inboard you have your levers and how close to the bar they’re set. No one can tell you which finger is best for you to use really!!!

I’d get one if they fitted a drain pipe which went back into the hydro-pack (thru a filter of course)

Its a good point tho, i make torsional dampers for crankshafts and understand the principal behind damping if not the science and maths. I would venture to say that most riders have a fit and forget attitude to shocks and forks and its only a few of us that like to tinker with them! It would be nice to have an informative site/page where i could find out what would happen if i did ‘this to that’!! I’m still wondering why i’m setting fork sag according to my body weight when i’m pretty sure my forks never have to carry all my body weight!!!

Dont you love the ‘split’ crown race on the hope headset too!!! Genius!

It’d be a good idea if it had a fall pipe attached to it, it seems to just direct the sweat down the sides of your head.

Five all the way (even tho i’m on a Patriot). Built in Britain, built for the British climate, many magazines bike of the year, single pivot simplicity, more options than you can shake a stick at, good factory back up, need i go on???

Buff without doubt, wash it lots to avoid sock type aromas. Just seen the Gutr, only in America.

I had motion control on an old pair of boxxers and both blue and gold move seperately if your holding both independantly or together if you just hold blue. I could never figure out what gold really did anyway!!

I’d demand new forks but im guessing Halfords wont have em in stock cos they’re most likely OEM’s. Which is why i’m guessing they want to get them repaired.

Yup, i’d tap the bearings in to make sure they’re seated properly and tighten up the QR. It’ll feel like terrible play if you’re holding the tyre cos the amount of play is amplified along the dia’ of the wheel!!

The only prob with cheaper bearings is that the exact dimensions may not be as accurate as a more expensive one. I fitted a very cheap one to a hope bulb and the bore wouldnt take the 20mm bolt thru. I had the correct number bearing too!!

I agree with the bandana idea, it didn’t stop the angry wasp but it does a cracking job on sweat, i use a buff but you gotta wash em often otherwise they end up smelling like socks!! Nice

A scratch can open up the stanchion to corrosion, depending on what its made of!!! so you have to make sure you keep it lubed!!! but apart from that i agree with the above too!

I got stung by a wasp entering thru a vent on my helmet, i suspect i looked an arse jumping up and down on a moor swinging my helmet about!! I now wear a piss pot, very satisfying sound of insects bouncing off it!!!

Lol, Little Cock Hill, ok thats enough now!! I want a good new route not a tour of comedic locations!!!

You’re not really risking your forks by lubing the stanchions. It keeps the seals sweet and prevents wear. Its just a case of using what you prefer. The only danger is petroleum based lubes/degreasers. They’ll eat your seals!

    TheDoog

WD40 and GT85 are essentially petroleum based degreasers and will eventually petrify and destroy seals. Seems everyone has a favourite lube. Im a fan of teflon.

Its time for the big three (Fox, RS, MZ) to stop being complacent i think.
Companies like Magura, Bos and to a lesser extent Society are rapidly catching up in terms of quality and reliability.
