I know this is asking a lot, but would anyone happen to know the differences between a Revelation 426 u-turn maxle light (on CRC for £385, please don't buy them all before I've made up my mind) and the equivalent Sektor?

Alternatively, just tell me to buy the stupid forks, and I'll stop polluting Singletrack with stupid fork questions…

househusband that's the sort of insider knowledge I'm talking about!

Balls though, 3-4 weeks is just close enough to wait and see, but still a long time to bounce around on a broken rockshox dart…

That's the first map I've seen that tries to show all of the UK trail centres on it. Very useful. Shame it's not a google map

Can't help you with your GPS, but good luck to you.

Your knees are the most important and least quick to heal joint, and if you have flat peddles you soon find out how much blood can come out of your shins (though the scars look cool and last forever!)

I'm too old to heal quickly, and too young / stupid to ride within my limits, so I fall off – I wear Raceface Rally pads all the time, even though they are hot. Reckon on getting a size up from your normal though.

Does anyone else find that they have more accidents on trail centres and local trails cos your more likely to ride on the edge of my abilities?

Trail centres have more obstacles per mile than natural xc trails, and the good ones tempt you into the advanced options and shortcuts (where I usually sail over the handlebars). If I'm somewhere new, or miles away from civilisation, I'm more cautious.

I've forgotten what my question was…

Given that I'm going to get rid of the frame within the next 6 months, from the replies that I understand, I probably don't need to bother.

But I will anyway, probably. :D

I've been on Singletrack for a while now, I'm guessing I've said something stupid here… :-)

Um, anyway, so, in conclusion: BBs – mixed. Anyone give me a clue just on headset facing?

Crumbs, 40 miles eh? That after the running the day before?

Am doing a 10k on Saturday followed by Cwmcarn on Sunday this weekend, hopefully that'll be some sort of preparation…

If no-one replies then how will we know what tyres to run?!

Just started to, seem like good value, and they have a loyalty scheme too.

They seem to send a mix of OEM and full retail, so if it's important to get instructions and a nice box then it might be worth calling them.

OK, no-one from the daytime – Anyone out of the evening lot then?

I've got one of these from Edinburgh Bicycle, but I've seen them elsewhere rebadged. If you shop around you can sometimes get them for around £50.

It's really sturdy, loads of adjustment, rubber feet so that it doesn't mark the floor, and it folds up nicely too. I think it's great, but the Park one says "Park" on it, so it's probably better.

Thanks CaptainBudget – so you're saying mboy is wrong then? Tora (318s only) have motion control damping, as do Pike's and Revelations (unless you get Blackbox MC, which is better).

I knew Revelations with Maxle and u-turn were my ideal fork, but they're £150 more than Pikes, which in turn are £150 more than the Toras, hence the thread.

Not sure about 2nd hand forks – how do I know if I'm getting a decent set? What do I look for?

Thanks all, keep the advice coming!

    thebunk

OK, thanks all. So Pikes are Toras with maxle, and they both weigh a ton. I'm not going to do land 5 foot drop offs, I don't want either of them.

Recons with Maxle and u-turn then.

Oh, wait – other than the SRAM site, Recons with Maxle and u-turn don't exist.

    forkin ell!

Recon 351s are 140mm travel, my frame only does 120mm (though next frame will take 140, hence the need for u-turn).

cookeaa, riding mostly red/black xc routes on welsh trail centres, until I learn how to read a map. Just want a cheap, light, stiff, travel adjustable fork, with RS reliability…is that too much to ask?!

Buzzlightyear, you share your namesakes reputation for hyperbole and style over mboys substance, though I guess for you the maxle makes a lot of difference?

    thebunk

Yep, got hope hubs. Is it the maxle – are thy the same insides then?

thebunk needs data points! Pike u-turn 454s are about £400 – Toras are £220ish. I'll spend the extra if you tell me to, but help me justify this to my wife, friends and family.

Pedalhead – CRC say 0.1lb less for the Toras…

I like mine – run the harder compound on the back and the really sticky compund on the front. Great even on wet roots. You can hear them trying to pull the tarmac up on road though!

Hmmm…so Float 140 RL with QR or F120 R with 15mm axle? Both at £300.

    Which out of…

    JeJames – Fox 32 F120 R thru axle £289

Or, from ebay…Reba Dual Air with Pushloc and Maxle lite £300ish

I meant Vietnam. I already know that the streets of skeggie are paved with gold and the locals all look like Cheryl Cole.

I guess it depends on how confident you are about noticing when you're about to be ripped off. For instance I've been to a lot of different countries, yet mostly get ripped off when I go round the corner to my LBS…

I've heard everyone (sweeping generalisation coming up! at least this is based on people who've back packed round it for a year) is not as friendly (in a quicker to pull a fast one way) as Thailand / Cambodia…? Anyone care to comment?

Er…Do you mean Vietnam, or Skegness?

We're going to Cambodia and Vietnam for ours in less than two weeks from now!

SE Asia is good because once you're there it can be as cheap or luxurious as you can afford. I've managed to get flights (inc internal) and accomodation in for a bit less than 2K, including staying in some stunning looking places.

Fly in to Siem Reap, chill out in posh hotel and go and visit Ankor Wat (you can cycle around the temples).

Fly to a deserted tropical island, stay in a $25 beach hut, eat, drink, moped around etc

Fly to Halong Bay, overnight in a Junk or somesuch boat sailing around huge islands of limestone towering above. Maybe do some Sea Kayaking (except I nearly died last time I tried that)

    Hanoi.

    Go home (boo!)

Book as much as you can beforehand if you're only going for a few weeks, rather than waste time once you're there, and don't leave it till the last minute, it's not worth the nagging, and you'll get sucked in to organising wedding stuff nearer the time.

Plus you won't have any money left…so book it now!

That happened to me. A young couple turned up, looked at the car and offered me the (traditionally high Autotrader ££ono) asking price – no haggling, no test drive, didn't even want to look at the slim file of paperwork I'd cobbled together!

Every other car I've sold has been a long drawn out process filled with mutual mistrust, so unless I've developed a trustworthy persona suddenly, who knows what's going on.

Second-hand car buyers today – tsk.

    Hmmm post ride…

One of their Matador Pies, gravy, crispy shallots and cheese, and a good ale please.

Actually, never mind post ride, it's quarter past 9 in the morning, I'm at my desk, and I could eat that right now…

    Want to see the XX

The XX are probably the worst live band I've ever seen. Nice songs on the radio, but they're not virtuoso musicians, and they don't have any stage presence (reckon you need at least one of those live). I've seen them three or four times supporting other bands, I think they're following me…

I find SEO a black art of opaqueness and mystery, but this helped me: woorank[/url]

You put your site address in and it gives you user friendly tips on how to improve the indexability etc of your website.

Having said that, I score a measily 32.9 wooranks so what do I know…

I recently asked them a question for my SO through their website.

The automated reply came from askus.specialized@custhelp.com. All of their emails say that their customer service email is customerservice@specializeduk.com. But the actual answer came from a real person – DCruxton@Specializeduk.com.

    Good luck!
