agreed Luminous, I made my first bike light this year and financially it was not worth it, but I like to fettle.

Personally I'd try and contact the land owner to explain what you are planning to do out of politeness.

I've an old one that has been used on easy bridalways while on my road bike, so off road but not MTBing. It does swing a bit especially if it's a large like the long flap if you don't have a rack. So my experience is, yes durable, but the swing a little, fine on road but not for the serious off road, drops e.t.c or sections where you might want to get off the back.

I'm 6'2" and the standard works fin fore me, but it's boarder-line if I was an inch or so bigger I'd defiantly want to "go large", 5' 11" and you should be fine easily.

I did a modified WHW route last year. Started from Stirling. It avoids following the drown of the A82. First days ride is very easy technical wise but still nice enjoyable riding. The first days ride involves some Sustrans route which stars off in Glasgow so if you followed that it would join up with my route.

I did it after doing a modified WHW route as a bail out. I was planning on heading north for another week or so but twisted my knee on a scrambling route Nr Fort William so took it as a bail out route that would allow me to see how bad my knee was without leaving my self in the middle of nowhere.

The great glen way is not technical at all, my setup was two small panniers and a rucksack on a rear rack that I would put on for rough sections (such as coming into Kinlochleven on the WHW), I did not have to put the rucksack on once for the GGW. I took the walking route and there where a few non technical single track section but all doable with the a trailer IMO. I personally found the scenery boring and repetitive I would have hated to have walked it, it was very wet though and hence misty. I left FW at 12:00 and arrived at Inverness at about 15-15:30 the next day traveling at a very slow pace with several pub stops and one pannier still full of food!

Write up and photos of GGW section here.http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=RrzKj&page_id=128419&v=2q
