White paint is cheaper and markets well. Never forget how conservative most purchasers are. It's a shame really because it does mean that carvan sites are an eyesore due to the way the weight vans sick out like a sore thumb for miles.

White reflects the sun and keeps the temperature down inside motor homes without using air-con most RV have air_con fuel is cheaper in the states – most caravans and motorhomes are used during the summer months.

No, this is a common misconception. Being white may increase the time the van takes to reach it's top temperature but not what that top temperature is. Consider a if you put a black brick and a white brick into an oven; they will both reach the same temperature. Interestingly the black brick will cool quicker in theory as it will radiate quicker but convection and conduction will happen at the same rate as the white brick.

dont know about that, we are the leading provider of cycle mechanics nationwide so s'not us buddy.

we also run courses in keyboard skills and noticing typing errors.

Ooohhh bitchy! I merely asked genuine question, I wanted to hear if there had been some sort of misrepresentations or an error made or anything. It was not meant to be loaded so I apologise if it offended.

P.S. If you are going to criticize someone else's typing it's a good idea to make sure your own is in order.

EDIT: I can't get assess to the original article but a follow up one is here http://www.bikebiz.com/news/32104/Serco-Cycle-Hire-management-stirs-up-trade-concern

"the cycle routes (fireroad) is perfectly adequate, and there is no demand for any more. Also there are very few people cycling in the Chevin."

The management man / woman has given you an excellent opportunity here with this statement.

I am pretty chuffed to have been part of this scheme. In my role as an assessor for ATG we have trained the 60 mobile mechanics who will be patrolling the streets and keeping check on the bikes so that they stay running.

That's interesting. I was reading in bikebiz about aome problem with the training for the mechanics for this scheme. Apparently many of the the trainer had only just been trained themselves and had little or no workshop experience themselves. What happened with that in the end?

One side-effect is that while the police used to turn a blind eye to various minor infractions (riding in a bus-only lane, for example), they're now more likely to issue tickets.

I've said this before, but you have to be pretty stupid to get a ticket on a bike…however you're riding. Surely, you just smile, nod, and ride off?

    – what's your name son, I want to give you a ticket..

    – *pedal away from fat, slow copper* (or, more exciting) *pedal away from fit, fast copper up for a bike chase*

No matter how quick you are you're not quicker than a radio. If you know a particularly good back street short cut and can turn down it without being seen you may be in luck but otherwise it's not worth the hassle.

Pop psychology here but at a guess. She is pregnant, probably very nervous, hormones are upsetting her, anything and everything is a threat. Reassurances and warnings / planning if possible when you go out may smooth the road.

where I work that would be £100 lab but we would also remove b.b and clean / replace / chase and face as needed and full gear setup, hanger alignment e.t.c.

You obviously don't have the overheads of a bike shops so I'd say £50 is fair if it took you five hours. Surprised chain and cassette did not need replacing considering the suggested time period since last service for the other problems to arise.

Proper XC requires the fitness of a road rider and the training that entails plus the bike handling skills to ride fast through the terrain.

You have moved from a 53 chairing to a 50 t chairing correct?

If so I presume you have moved the front mech down a little?

Are the new middleburn cranks the slick shift ones or normal without ramps and pins?

I'll assume limit screws are ok now. 113 isis b.b sounds the correct length for a tripple (well it's what I used on a bike last week).

Why? For riding roads, canal paths, gravel tracks. something nippy, that doesnt require an off road "mountain bike" tyre. Thought it'd be a good idea to have something narrower higher pressure… ?? just exploring the options, thanks for suggestions!

Sounds like any touring tyre will do.

Who said anything about saving lives?

The aim would be to catch criminals. That could be murderers, but it could also be rapists, muggers, burglars, thieves, conmen, etc etc

Lots of people in this thread.

Being as you are arguing for this database maybe you could answers some questions please.

You need to know how effective at improving conviction rates this database would be?
    Do you have any figures?

How many crimes have there been where there is a lack of suspect and the database would help? i.e What % of cases would this extended database help find a suspect?

I would expect that a very high % of cases there is already a suspect without the database, in these case the extension of the database is not needed as once you have a suspect you can take a sample and eliminate or not.

Given the potential gain in convicted criminals and the cost of the database what would be the cost per-conviction? Is this the most efficient way to spend the money?

We can catch many more criminals if we reduce the requirements for warrants and allow much greater general surveillance. If catching more criminals is your aim why not do this too?

Do you trust the police not to abuse any new power?

You'd save more peoples life's by restricting car use and placing a blanket 20 mph urban and 50 mph national speed limit, or making cigarettes and drinking illegal.

TO appel to the none obsessed MTBer, someone just starting, reluctant other half.

As stated very well sign post trail.

Trails with a story / historical points of interest can be added to route card.

Cafe / pub stops for people to get out of the rain warm up and can cope with dirty bike riders.

Advertise the alternative things to do. It may be the case that the holiday is a compromise. one half of a couple want to go MTBing the other wants to do XYZ, let them know that your destination means they can spend 3 days MTBing and three days doing xyz

Bike washing / cloths washing / cloth drying facility's at accommodation. There is nothing more annoying than having to try and dry loads of socks on one small radiator.

    Public transport information

A good local bike mechanic for many would be useful.

The more "all the gear" some one is, weather thats a roadie in full team kit or mtber ona expensive full sus with cool shades 661 gear e.t.c the more stand offish I find people, maybe it's partly me or also them looking at me always looking a bit rough and ready being stand offish.

Touring cyclist always seem happy to say hello though! Having toured on my own though I know you do tend to want to speak sometime if you've been on your own for a few days!

Over Xmass I did the routine walk of Studland to Swanage with my parents starting at about 10:00 am, this was not very busy then but by 13:00 on the way back it was heaving. Have walked along other parts of the costal path around this area too many times. I think if it's not a bank holiday cycling before 09:00 you will meet very few if any people on the coastal path especially if you are on the further west part towards Kimmeridge and further on maybe the odd dog walker. Do your coastal path riding post 19:00 and pre 09:00 and you should be ok, gets VERY busy later though.

just keep hunting it's an old b.b lock ring is what you are looking for, although it's not reverse threaded / left hand thread so not secure like a track hub lock ring. However if you are running front and rear brakes it doe not matter if a fix cog comes loose plus you will not be putting as much back pressure on if you have a rear brake.
