Just done some checking… The stock build is 27.87lb. Remove the heavy forks and stick some rigid carbon up front and you’ll be down to 24.5lb straight off.

Worth a look if you can find one 2nd hand.

I bought a Felt Nine 30 off ebay and stuck an On-One carbon fork on it. Changed it to 1×10 and it’s light as i need.

The frame is xc race geometry and is pretty competitive on the scales.

I think the entire build cost me about £500 and whikst it’s the cheapest bike i own it’s the one i go to for races and big trips (it has pannier mounts and accommodates all sorts of bikepacking gear.

Magura MT2 brakes are appaling though.

If you want to see Lightenings and Buccs in action i can recommend Bruntingthorpe fast taxi days. Awesome. And watching a Victor belt down the runway at full chat blew me away.

I was at Uni in Norwich near a couple of USAF bases and two F15’s simulated a dog fight over the campus. Must have been 1993 as i was sitting in halls of residence with electric guitar in hand trying. I managed to knock out the Steve Stevens theme to Top Gun. Still didn’t get me laid…

Dogfight made up for it though.

I’ve had good service from them. Had a couple of battery/charger issues but they were happily replaced.

    Friends have had no issues.

Trees are my business so I’ve felled a few but I still vividly remember the first time i saw one go of its own accord.

    Big powerful stuff!

I’ve had a Topeak Pocket Rocket for years. I keep on seeing other people with them. I think they just last and last. Better than the Giant and Lezyne Micro i also have.

I’d by another if it ever wears out!

Had the same one for about a decade. Gets a few outings each year. Always worked well for me.

Fits on a bike too of you carefully modify a bottle cage!

Amberley to Eastbourne every time. It’s a much bigger day but the views are stunning and you’ll end up by the sea!

Couple of campsites in the Surrey Hills if you want official toilets and everything!

My brother stayed at one just outside Ewhurst where you could have fires.

I’m seeing him later, I’ll get the name.

Big black Felt 29er with red bags strapped to it and a Jetboil in the bottle cage!

    You?

Yeah no problems. Dunno what i was worrying about. Pushed up a couple but then so did everyone!

The rigid fork left my wrists a little battered but to be honest I’d take that over lugging the extra 1kg of suspension over the smooth stuff! And I’m fairly used to it. Even the field of a 1000 bumps has nothing on some of the fast bumpy descents on the South Downs Way.

Glad i went mtb because i could fly downhill with a grin. Wish I’d spent more time getting tubeless sorted after a tyre change as i punctured twice. Bloody things just wouldn’t go up so i admitted defeat the day before i left!

But it was a great couple of days. I really enjoyed myself. We got lucky with the weather, might have been a different story in the rain. Although waking up with frost on the tarp was fun.

I reckon I’ll do it again.

Thanks all. Big bars and comfy tyres make me favour the 29er over the cross.

Sounds like I’ll be out of the seat up the hills then!

    Bar ends too naturally!

Got one of their carbon cyclocross bikes. Done all sorts on it. So far so good after two years. But I’m not a roadie, cxer really. Although i did have a chap complimenting me on a 100 mile Sportive once. Not sure if he was taking the piss or just trying to encourage but he seemed genuine!

Yep…. I’ve been trying to give away a greenhouse on Spock and Gumtree for 3 months now. Fourteen people now saying they definitely want it. All pics and dimensions are online along with rough location.

They’re so keen! So far the number of people actually turned up… zero. I’m keeping it online now as a sort of social experiment.

+1 for the Recon silvers. Remarkably good for the price. Tough too. But over 2kg so you’ll always have a disadvantage on the starting line.

Have you thought about a carbon rigid? Run tubeless so you can get a slightly lower pressure and you may not need the suspension. Some of my best finishes have been on a carbon One-One monocoque fork. They come in about 650g!

Bad luck matey. About 4 weeks and don’t go full gnar until 6-7 weeks.

Take painkillers. Codeine is good. Try to breath normally.

I’ve done it a few times. I nearly passed out whilst driving when i sneezed once. I cetainly shed tears.

Planning authority won’t care. It’s not a material consideration. It depends of the covenant is still likely to be enforced by someone. Ie. If it is in place from a development where the original company is no longer trading then no one is gonna give a fig. But if it is a neighbour who sold the land and is very much alive then you might need to negotiate.

Codeine in my experience. And if you’re buying arnica get the good stuff with a high concentration.

Depends what day of the week it is! I’ve never found any consistency in their sizing. A bit like Endura.

I order about 3 different sizes and send the ones that don’t fit back.

Haha just having the same issue wuth my new-to-me Sherpa. I’ve swapped seatposts (Specialized & Felt), qr clamps and tried fiber grip. Still flaming moving.

I’ve just ordered a hope qr in the hope (sic) it’ll be more up to the job than the Superstar ones.

I wonder if anyone else has found the answer short of ditching the qr and manning up down the steep stuff!

They’re cheap cos they’re 730mm which is just not wide enough for today’s width sensitive consumers. So if you can live with the shame of a bar at least 3cm smaller than your mates then you’re laughing.

    Just have a poo first.

Bought a set of Four4th lights. My first quality lights after years of Chinese specials.

Drove to the ride directly from picking them up from the Four4th chaps. Fitted on bike in anticipation of lighting up mid-ride. Went OTB just before dusk and slammed the light into a stump. Amazingly light was fine but the cables had been yanked out the battery connection.

I called Four4th and asked if i could come by and drop of the battery for repair and when i turned up they replaced it free of charge! Lovely people. I suggested they might want to employ me as a tester as i have a habit of knackering things.

He loves in Weybridge, Surrey and my driving instructor taught him. And Nannette Newman. And my mum. And amazingly John Lennon.

He was quite old and retired soon after i passed my test 25 yrs ago. (Driving instructor not Bernard Cribbins)

I hope you found my morsel of Bernard Cribbins trivia enjoyable.

I also have equally interesting anecdotes about Anne Diamond, Cilla Black, and Robbie Williams should they be required.

Mine only clicks when you’ve pushed it too far. The adjustment is smooth and click free and moves about 90 degs.

But that might be just mine…

Mine is normally caused by glazed pads. Take them out and rub them on a bit of sandpaper and replace. Works for mine as i have a habit of riding the brakes a bit much when i get nervous.

Got a 34t on my rigid 29er. Have found it makes a good difference both in 1×10 and ss incarnations. Particularly when getting out of the saddle up hills. It really smooths out the stroke. Closest i can equate it to is like being on a step machine in the gym. I’ll be swapping them onto all my bikes as required. And i went from 32t round to 34t oval and felt no significant effort which was nice.

    And they’re pretty cheap too!

Blackburn outpost seat pack and bar harness look good. Not tried them though.
