    Mavic Crossride here.

    Alien tool
    Tyre levers
Patches and bits (links, zip ties etc.)
    Water bottle
    Pump
    Wallet
    Phone
    Keys
Merino tee for prolonged pub stop
    Light clipped to back
    Shotblox and gel or bar

That’s it about ram packed. It’s a little less comfy as a rucksack but the lack of sweaty back make it worth it for me.

Tube is either under my seat or strapped to frame.

I was trying to figure out the same thing last year. Lots of suggestions all of which meant spending loads of cash. In the end I carefully bent a wire bottle cage into shape to mount my jetboil on the seat tube. I strap a velcro band around to stop it making a bid for freedom on rocky sections.

    Works very well.

Chuffing muddy. Slippy around the bends. Wore through my rear pads entirely! Nearly puked on lap 3. And that puddle…

I’ve got a 19 inch Sherpa. So far as I’m concerned its the muts nuts. I’m 6’and it rides lovely on 100mm. Very forgiving springy frame. I ride it on everything from aggro Surrey Hills stuff to long all day xc rides.

Could do with another 20mm on the fork on some ofnthe bigger drops but a couple of tokens have resolved kost of that.

There’s a good Stanton Owners Facebook group if you want to get more biased opinions! :D

I also have some cheapo chainsaw oil that I’ll try first thinned down with some white spirit as mentioned ^ there somewhere, cheers for that tip!

My pleasure! If you need to clean the chain then a couple of babywipes do the job. Get Johnsons not Huggies.

This winter I’ve been making my own special mix of chainsaw oil and white spirits. It’s cheap and works very well even in the wet.

About two thirds oil to a third spirt.

    Tastes great too

I do SDW every year. I’ve done it full sus, hardtail, rigid.

For me the weight gain and efficiency of the hardtail over the full sus is definitely worth it. Never again on the rigid. Never…

Don’t work on my head / face. The bloke selling them couldn’t believe I couldn’t hear a thing. But I really couldn’t hear much in any position.

Probably something to do with my adamantium exo-skeleton.

Did it in 2014. Got a place in 2015 but couldn’t. 2016 and 2017 got commiserated.

Quite fancied it this year. I suppose I could get a charity place but I don’t feel comfortable asking for sponsorship to do something I’ll really enjoy!

I was left to fill out my own bsuiness card order once 20ish years ago and ended up with ‘Justified Online Ancient of Mu’

Still have a couple of the cards for old time’s sake. They remind of a time when I didn’t have a mortgage to pay and I could tell ‘the man’ to chuffing ram-it whenever I fancied.

I opened the first ever gig I played to War Pigs. I always had a lot of respect for them after trying to nail that one live!

Yes mine are quite rubbish too. Sweaty in the dry and wet in the rain.

    Wish I’d never bought them.

I convinced my mate he wanted one. He bought the ti one about 2 months ago and I can’t get him off it. His only criticism is that the Love Mud wheels buckled quite readliy, but having seen him ride it I’m not sure that the wheels are entirely to blame.

I’m sorely tempted to buy the frame and swap the bits off my Planet X XLS. I rode his for about 20 mins and it was nice. Just not sure it’s £999 pounds nicer than the XLS which is the only thing holding me back.

However if anyone wants to make me an offer for a 3 yr old XLS frame in large….? (email in profile!)

I went 3 yrs back. It’s quite early so the weather was colder than I usually like when sitting in a field drinking cider. Security was good with ‘undercover’ patrols in the camping field. They stopped my mate’s 16yr old one evening so they were on the ball for skallywags.

I’ve had an XLS for 3 years now. It’s very adaptable and takes a battering. You’ll struggle with tyres wider than 35mm though. I’ve got 38mm on at the moment and it’s not great!

Other than that though it has been really good.

Hey ho, I’m sorry your feeling shitey. I’ve found vitamin d tablets have staved off the worst effects of the Jan/Feb depression for the past couple of years. That, and I’ve not had a bad cold since I’ve been taking them. I start in October and end in April.

Good luck. I hope you find some respite.

I ride a set on On One monocoque carbon forks on my 29er. They’ve taken a battering and are still going strong.

I got the holdall. Bit of a bargain for a well made waterproof bag. Closure seems easy enough to me.

Isn’t there a chap with a warehouse somewhere that bought up all the bits when DeLorean went under.

I’m sure I saw a documentary which reckoned he’d build you a new one?

Drizabone are about as breathable as a bin bag. If you walk even slightly briskly you’ll get a sweaty back. Sold mine sharpish.

Bruce Robinson’s investigation into Jack the Ripper is great and over 18 hours. It is called ‘They all love Jack’.

You’ll be boring people at Christmas parties about who the real killer was…

I’ve gone from 32t round to 34t oval on my ss and my geared. Very noticeable on ss. Offers bags if traction strangely enough for out the saddle efforts. It makes the bike feel like a big step machine. Been running them about 18 months.

Less difference on the geared. Not sure why. Might be something to do with the ss being rigid. Just fitted a 38t oval on the cx. Felt good on the first ride out. Somewhere between the other two in terms of noticeability.

In a nutshell – i won’t be going back to round if the prices are comparable.

Maybe it’s the hardware I’m using because most of your experiences do not match mine. Fifeandy seems to have nailed my experience so far. I’m trying to find an intuitive piece of hardware for a bunch of non-tech savvy consultants who can just about drive an ipad. Budget is nit really a priblem but seeing as these tablets will get dragged through the undergrowth i think £500 is the upper limit. To put this into perspective I’ve virtually run a business from my car using a £180 LG android tab and a laptop for the odd bit of autocad,

I’ve been an early adopter of handhelds since Psion, Palm, Windows ME etc. I can see the potential of Windows 10 as an all-in-one solution but so far my experience had been painful.

I suspect my need is too demanding for the current sub-£500 Win 10 machines.

I need to collect data whilst outside and anotate pdfs using a stylus. The proprietary software we use is only available on Windows hence the need to find a Windows hardware solution.

Leffeboy -i’m using Outlook, Chrome, Acrobat, Excel, Dropbox and a couple of bits of work software. I’ve used the Surface and habe a Windows 10 laptop for everyday use. What software do you suggest?
