I’ve got two 5g phones (home and work) and travel up to London regularly. After several times when both claimed to have strong 5g signal but were unable to stream the podcast or download the emails, I’ve turned off 5g and use 4g now.

I’ve used a Scorch on my helmet for years. The touch on/off/mode function is a ball ache because my gloves are never that conductive. Otherwise it is a great light.

Our understairs cupboard gets a but damp in wintertime, so we chuck a dehumidifier in there. Works a treat.

Nice one! I’ve had LC since March 2020. After talking to BWD i bought an ebike about 3 months ago. It has really changed things for me. I definitely feel like I’m on the mend. Out of the boom and bust cycle and gradually increasing the exercise without a relapse.

    Best of luck fella.

I’m assuming the mech hanger is different to the mk 1 frame. Because I’ve found a source for them.

I had the same conundrum. Ended up getting an iPhone 12 mini. My first ios phone. Camera is good, battery is pants, ios is bloody awful compared to Android 12.

In fact I’ve gone back to my Pixel 3a for daily duties, with the iPhone for work (which I use the camera mostly for).

I’m thinking of a Pixel 6a to upgrade the 3a but it is quite a lot bigger! But they’re doing a trade in scheme…

I may be getting a bit long in the tooth, but I’ve been a car nut since I was a lad and there is literally nothing made in the last decade that tickles my fancy.

All the supercars are carbon copies of each other. The luxury SUVs are pig ugly (see above), sporty Audi’s. Bimmers, and Mercs appear to be trying to emulate the faux macho image of the Village People with pumped up wheel arches and massive shiny wheels.

I think as I’ve got older I’ve really learnt to appreciate the lines of older cars.

But to answer the OP’s question: Any car that costs more than about 50k seems like a vulgar display of wealth to me.

My view is that digging that causes financial damage to timber crops is unacceptable and should not be condoned as this is clearly criminal damage. Likewise anything that is positioned in a location that is likely to injure a third party is plain daft and shouldn’t happen either. Anything that has a significant effect on local wildlife or sensitive habitats is probably illegal. And diggers should respect the wishes of the landowner, if they don’t want you, then don’t go there.

However, the small scrapes and kickers that I’ve ridden in these woods for the past 30 years do not cause this level of damage and have always been been tolerated. Rarely in 3 decades has there ever been any issue. However, this sort of low-key riding that countless riders have enjoyed is now being threatened as it is lumped in with big feature building that does cause issues. That worries me.

But what really gets my goat is sensationalist reporting. ‘Trails of carnage’, ‘onslaught of illegal mountain bike trails’. These words will give every misanthropic curmudgeon the impression that they a morally entitled to moan and chastise every kid they see on a mountain bike for the next decade. And all to help sell a few local papers.

All I can add is what the farken ell does this mean:

“the ever popular site has provided a temporary location to many film crews across the years – but a decision on potential filming has been halted because of on-going debate on the effects to wildlife and the evironment”
    Huh?!

Waverley Beat post a partial retraction/apology for the tone of the post yesterday afternoon and then removed it yesterday evening.

    As if it never existed…

Which I think i have a problem with. I’d like their mistake to be on public record.

    My point exactly @blokeuptheroad!

Over a thousand replies now. The majority critical of the tone of the post. Just a massive PR disaster.

Had it been a supportive post it would have had about a dozen comments i suspect.

Blimey this is a good game. Haven’t seen it played so well since Humph was with us.

So in the spirit of Mr Littleton, I’ve checked the shoulder stats and you have to go to all the way back to West Ham to see a diagonal counter rabbit.

    So Tottenham Court Road.

    I think.

    I’m Shimano 46 but Fairbanks 10.5(uk).

And I can attest they’ve been awesome this winter for me.

Gotta sell two bikes now to justify this purchase. Anyone fancy a Planet X XLS or a Ramin 3+ (*not very stealth add alert*).

Both bikes now in classified section.

    It’s a large, but if it’s @Clink he’s bought a Stooge instead!

Well having given up on owning one after my order was cancelled I git a tip off on the Bearbones forum that there was a large on the Decathlon site. I managed to order it and it arrived today. Fairly sure it was a return as I haven’t got the toolkit or spare helitape Stanstorey got, but nevertheless it’s pretty awesome. No. 69 of 200, which made me smile.

Got a Redshift stem that’s going on it, and I’ll start buggering around hanging things off it tomorrow, but first impressions of riding around the garden are really good.

Nope, gone for me too. Plus an email saying they’re cancelling my stock notification.

Particularly gutting as I ordered and payed for one before they cancelled the order 5 days later!

I’m 10.5 in Fairbanks, 11 in Freeriders. If that helps.

Like my Fairbanks. Cosy. Work well with V12s.

Wahoo RFLKT. Properly awful, half baked piece of crap.

My daughter’s iPhone and iPad. Never realised a device could actually be smug.

Bought a pair too! Seem true to size (11). Not bothered by how waterproof they are as I’ll be in Sealskinz and gaiters if its a long wet one. Shorter rides I’ll put up with wet feet if they’re warm, although i find Sealskinz generally work really well for me so not generally a problem.

They look better than the Five Ten Impact High boots that were my other choice (not waterproof and twice the price).

I work outdoors about 50% of the time and have learnt through bitter experience that nothing, not even goretex, can cope with a prolonged walk through wet grass. I use a good pair of wellies if I’m walking fields.

    Cheers for the recommendation!

Now in stock online, limited sizes. Ordered a large.. Time will tell how I get on with the limited gearing but I’m looking forward to trying it out around Scotland. Looks perfect for the likes of a week on the Great North trail.

Darn – just had my order cancelled by Decathlon. How about you @highlandman?

    Thanks @jameso – much appreciated.

I’ve ordered one to replace a cx/gravel bike, a rigid 29er, and potentially my hardtail xc bike because I don’t have the room to store them all anymore. I’m slimming down to just the three bikes :-D (the 920, short travel full-susser, long travel full-susser).

I’ll report back when it arrives in a couple of weeks. And maybe post a few classifieds.

@jameso – as a bike designer yourself, what are your thoughts on this bike? I’m intrigued, I can’t decide if it’s a super-flexible design that would suit many (depending on tyre size) or a specialist niche product that only a long-distance bikepacker can fully enjoy?

And I see the weight (12.8kg I think) is fairly hefty, but comparable to a Fargo. Is this going to make it a plodder or can it be used for a quick unladen dash around the local woods?

(Edited to add some stuff and punctuations.)

Me and the missus both bought Pixel 3a in June. Then i got a new job in September and they gave me a phone with a dual SIM slot so i have a barely used 3a sitting in my drawer with an Otterbox case and another leather one for smarter occasions…

Loved it too btw. Better than the Sony it replaced and the Samsung A71 that work gave me, but the convenience of having one phone in my pocket won!

Drop me a message if you’re interested.

    And Dominion by CJ Sansom.

Blimey – saw this thread last night and on a whim bought a 30dg 100mm stem from the Redshift site in dollars with the black Friday discount.

Didn’t expect anything to turn up for a week or two at least, but blow me down if my friendly Amazon courier hasn’t just delivered it.

Gonna fit it over lunch in time for tomorrows ride!

    Thanks OP.

    What is ‘ghost breathlessness’ NZCol?

Sounds like my experience of this lovely virus is similar to yours. Really annoys me when I see people mingling or not taking it seriously.

I’d advise rest. For like a fortnight at least. Maybe more.

I didn’t, because I had mild symptoms and thought I just had weird cold. If someone had told me to rest for 2 weeks I’d have told them where to go – I mean, there’s running to be done.

It’s been maybe 6 months of long covid and no running for me. Safe to say I’ve learned my lesson :'(

Just want to be able to ride without spending the next days feeling like I want to curl up and sleep.

It was amazing how they got so much in those woods! I’ve done a few Gorricks over the years and i thought that was quite a brutal course. Not many corners you could keep speed on so there was a lot of pedalling! Lovely and dry though! I did 4 laps and called it a day. I was on course for 6 but I’ve got to be v careful i don’t overdo ot otherwise the covid fatigue kicks my butt the next day!

Looking forward to being well enough to do it justice next year!

I’ve got the hooped Alpkit Elan. It’s great. Loads of room, mesh bits to stop condensation, feels robust but small enough. Even has a little net pocket in for your phone/keys etc.

I’ll be using it through the winter.
