Err to anyone with a Strive that needs to do likewise – the shock and pivot fasteners are all alu. Well worth checking they are all properly greased and will come undone ok. I have one where the top shock bolt is seized solid – I’ve rounded out the cap bolt trying to undo it. Probably due to lack of grease / alu oxidisation.

I should add that Canyon have been very helpful and are sending out a replacement kit. Careful drilling here we come….

    >36.6 km of almost entirely continuous descent. Almost all of it offroad.<

That’s two “almosts” in there. Two strikes and you’re out 😉

    Yeah… all of 26m over 5km 😉

Agreed though it’s not technically all descent from Derry

    Macdui>Derry Lodge c. 12k

Macdui>Linn O’ Dee c. 18k (might be the odd metre of climbing here and there after Derry Lodge)

Devils Staircase, “Torridon,” Carn Ban More etc are nowhere near this.

Quite a few in Scotland in the high teens.

    It’s a saw not a knife.

No danger whatsoever of plod arresting you for possession of this.

And why would you even be stopped?

You can buy unbreakable ones (Lexon? )

BBB et al are not exactly foul weather friends. There’s a good reason Shimano use ceramic bushes down there.

If that’s what Sram use I’d go with originals.

Eh? No bearing codes cross reference to specific / unique dim’s. Albeit in your case 61804 and 61902 are exactly the same as 6804 and 6902

Here let’s make it easy – they are both on this page:

I found it enthralling personally. Far more interesting than cleaning my chain for example.

    >Steady on binners the real debate is salmond getting out a flag and using this for Nationalistic celebration…<

Yeah imagine the leader of the SNP waving a saltire like numerous other Scots men and women in the crowd. How very dare he.

You already have the codes (they are on the seals)

Ergo you need: 68042RS and 69022RS

    Buy a new door.

Seriously – that’s fcuked across three separate sections. Even if you harden the rot first, the movement in the timber will crack it all back open the minute winter arrives.

    Allegedly.

Couldn’t you fix it with a lump of dodgy carbon – you being an ex Lawyer an’ all?

    Fair dues Northwind…

    From your Hope link:

“This procedure will achieve good braking performance but will reach its full potential after a few rides”

Ergo you still need to do a couple of rides to complete the bedding in process.

So like many folk I’ve been unable to detect any real world difference (in either longevity or braking performance) between bedding them in first and simply bedding them in by riding the bike.

    >Does bedding in brake pads really do anything or would my time be better spent just getting on and riding?<

    No and yes.

Just an old (stw) wives tale. Tried it once after reading pages and pages of guff spouted by TJ and others and it made not a whit of difference.

Can any of you pad bedder innerers point to documentary evidence from any of the brake or pad manufacturers? I’ve fitted many different manufacturers brakes and pads over the years and I have seen no such advice.

Doubt they’d come off riding. I’ve thrown myself down some fairly rough terrain with the G500 and never had an issue. However it is easy to strike and unclip them if you have a OTB incident – happened to me.

Ben Alder Lodge is on Loch Ericht (track in from Dalwhinnie) Ardverikie (aka Glenbogle) is on Loch Laggan just SW of Laggan Wolftrax.

Agree with your sentiments billyboy. TC’s are great for what they are but they are very one dimensional.

    >So is riding round the Loch on the A82 then joining the WHW at Glen Falloch a better option?<

Nah – you’d just be pussying out. Go for it, it’s just a wee walkers route.

Depends on your definition of Trail Centre…

Carron Valley, Callander Estate and Cathkin Braes all def fall into the TC cat. Other locations with purpose built trails incl: Fochabers, (Moray Monster) Middledon, (Kirkaldy) Lochore / Blairadam, Glenbranter, Kyleakin, Fire Tower, Comrie Croft, VAT run, Beecraigs (if it ever gets finished)Cumbernauld, Motherwell, Arran,Inverie (’bout the size of the Vat run ;-))Campbeltown has something iirc, Aberfoyle? Whitelees?

Glenlivet is def a large TC and must be all but practically complete (the next big thing?)

Kinneil – Boness (on the dwg board – needs funding)

Kippenrait – Dunblane (on the dwg board /subject to planning consent)

Lennox – been on the dwg board for years
    Angus Glens – Ditto

Others in the pipeline: Muirshiel CP,Kilpatricks plus someehere in deepest Ayrshire (Dalmellington?)

    DH:

Falkland? Glencoe, Lecht and Glenshee are all gravity assisted (Glenshee may no longer be providing uplift)Cairngorm do a ‘guided only’ descent off the top (but plans on the dwg board for chairlift assisted trails in Coire n Ciste)

Path’s been rebuilt on to the shoulder of Bynack Mor. ‘Only’ leaves you with 10k of ruffstuff til you hit the broad trail in Glen Derry 😉

Depends what you mean by gear – would be a ball ache with Panniers.

    >Just to put the cat among the pigeons, how about looking at Glenmore- Ryvoan- Bynack Mor- Fords of Avon- Lairig an Lui- Derry Lodge- Braemar. Quite rocky though, doesn’t suit everyone.<

    This.

Way better than either Tilt or Feshie in that direction.

    >An arbitary line on a map, some of which is unrideable, weaving around dozens of walkers, with only a couple of really, really good bits?<

Most of it is hardly arbitary.

Besides, same could be said of dozens of other so called ‘classics.’ Glen Tilt springs to mind…

In a nutshell, more than a little uncharitable that comment. You don’t get 96 miles of snaking singletrack but most folk who tackle it don’t come away feeling short changed on the overall experience.

Must be zillions of pics on the web – google images?

Doesn’t really matter. As any Mountaineer will tell you it’s getting back down alive that’s the hard part.
