we’ve just had a bedroom plastered, walls pretty bad after stripping skirting and picture rails, ceiling skimmed over and it came to £400.

Room was 3.6 x 3.8m for reference and based in Bristol

as above, 5 years down the line is going to be your main stumbling block regardless of being let down on dates. new home snagging is done before you move in, you sign off to say your happy with it.

you then have the warranty period with the housebuilder themselves to get any further issues resolved (shrinkage etc), usually 2 years (one rather large housebuilder in particular is now offering 5 years apparently….) and anything after that comes under the NHBC.

obviously i can’t tell how persistant you were at getting the items sorted once you’d moved in, but you should have been on the phone day in day out, until it was resolved. it was there problem and if you werent happy with the issues you had with the house, they should have sorted them for you.

5 years down the line, anything could of happend.

I hope you get it sorted, but i really wouldnt hold out much hope of getting the developer to sort it now. think you may be better just sorting it yourself and moving on. developer would likely wriggle out of it in a small claims court due to timescales and proving issues have existed since day one.

depends what mtb shoes you have at the minute i’d say, stiff soled shoes are a huge step up,but you don’t necessarily need a road specific shoe.i alternate between my black sidi mtb shoes and white sidi road shoes depending on the weather.

I’ve used specific road pedals in the past, look keo’s of various models, and they are very good, but for ease of swapping shoes etc im using egg beaters as thats what i run on my other bikes.

wow. best response to a thread i’ve started!

Thanks all for your advice and thoughts, its much appreciated. I’m not hugely worried by it all, i don’t think anyway, it just sounds a little extreme and not knowing anyone who’s had it done before didn’t know in the real world what to expect.

Genuinely sounds like there is nothing to worry about though, and if it’s a step up from where I am now, and have been for the last 6-12 months, then I’m happy.

Thanks Pook for the link to the video, will get a copy ordered.

    Onwards and upwards anyway

    cool,sounds positive then.

just been slightly concerned that when i’ve tried to ride recently, I end up feeling a whole lot worse, would assume then that it’s purely down to having one heavily infected /disfunctional kidney still inside me and not the fact one kidney is having to work double time.

the caffeine issue sounds like a definate downside though! 🙁

    id say forget. from experience.

it being a woman, is irrelavant, its still cheating no matter what sex the other person is, as “cool” as it maybe to have a mrs who bats for both sides 🙄

There will always be a niggle in the back of the other persons mind, that unless your completely satisfied your partner is geuinely sorry and it was truely a one off mistake, will cause future issues. as mentioned above, i think there are alot of things to consider – family etc, however, if the partner was silly enough to make the mistake in the first place, she should be prepared to accept the consequences.

oh and to fit in with the stw massive, pics or gtfo as has been mentioned.

thanks coatesy, will give them a bleed over the weekend and see if that helps. they’ve not been bled since i bought the bike, but as they’ve never been any better assumed this was just the best they got.

fair bit of ice down at whites level, afan today so would presume tup north to be worse. all still rideable though just need a bit more care.

the fronts average, the rear has way too much lever travel and lacks bite. there well bed in but just don’t seem to be that good and have no feel to them what so ever. the last set of shimano’s i had, on an old prophet, felt and worked a lot better.

just like to thank stw for yet again saving my bacon, have another window open with a set of wheels that i was just about to buy from this guy. thought i’d check out his wheelbuilding skills and this was one of the first threads that came up. awesome.

i’ve got the medium version of the one posted by sprocket jockey. works really well, and with having the rubber hose instead of being directly connected to the valve, means your not pulling the valve around with every pump / stroke.

used to have a topeak one that was also pretty good, gave that one to my old man and its still going strong.

avoid the bontrager air rush or whatever its called. it was useless as a pump, then broke using a air cartridge and left me stranded miles away from home.

not discounting any for being too cheap at the minute, so long as they stay straight and run smooth i’ve got no issue spending a little less. the charge one’s had come up when ive been looking actually, but just assumed they’d not be much better than what’s on there. sounds like they’re worth another look. Although the goldtec’s are looking favourite at the minute

thanks for the confirmation on the 120mm spacing.

    the_prophet

can any one confirm the langster has 120mm spacing on the rear? I assumed it would be but just read something on another site that says it’s a 130mm??

    the_prophet

yep its the rear thats gone, i’ve stripped it and re greased it myself, but soon tightend up again. thats also something thats putting me off just getting them rebuilt, the wheels do seem pretty heavy for what should be light and basic.

I was hoping to get a custom set built up by the guy that used to run wheelpro a few years back, Roger (??!!) but he’s not doing custom wheels anymore. Bought two sets of mtb wheels off him in the past, and not had single issue.

Will have a better look at the goldtec’s.

where did you get them built up ericemel?

Thanks all for advice so far

…the only extra friction ive noticed with my alfine is when your back pedal the bike when your off it. the pedals dont spin like on a derallieur bike.

I love mine, its different but once you take advantage of it, its good ddifferent. only negative is the jump in ratio's sometimes. goes from too easy to too hard in one click. think its only a couple of gears affected though.

cool, just about to order one up now. thanks for the tip.

haven't actually got to that stage yet, but from what ive read, its loosening the chain side tensioner, enough to pop the chain off the sprocket when you've undone the wheel nuts. only grumble from me is having to carry round a 15mm spanner but its no massive problem.

this could all change once ive had to change a puncture….

actually, OP's got first hand experience of wheel off so should be able to give you a better idea.

It does take a little getting used to, but once you are, the way you can drop a number of gears ready for a new section, without spinning the pedals or even whilst standing still is pretty handy. nice and quiet aswell.

    enjoy it.

    how you finding it?

had mine a month or so now and i love it. the alfine has impressed me no end to be honest. over the moon with the bike. changed seat, pedals and tyres on mine so far not sure whats next.

been as quick as wiggle / crc for me when ive used them in the past. pleasantly suprised.

found myself riding the road bike alot more recently, could be down to a lack of time but also had few issues that needed sorting with the mtb.

think i've just been making the most of the dry (ish) weather before the winter comes and i can ride the mtb whenever i like.

can pretty much agree with steve_b77 up there, came standard on my genesis, was out for the first time the other nite, and they were shocking. will be getting swapped out asap.

same here, on sites always worked out the cheapest for me. APH or something like that i think??

or I can rent you a space at mine? 😉

wouldnt say the large is massive, i'm 6ft 1 and it fits me perfectly. decent amount of post showing and the standard 110mm stem.

need to get a sit on one if you can you may be abnormally shaped and need a different size to what the stw gods tell you.
