Propain Hugene is maybe longer travel than you wanted, and 6 week lead time.

Persoanlly I like ball ended for proper keys, when you have a straight end option for doing the proper tightening, and can use the ball end for twiddling.

If you only have a single Y tool, then I think it should be straight. I’m not a massive fan of them though.

This first part: rudolp can ascend, south, east, east, descend… seems pretty short

This has the potential to turn in to a right good argument.

I would say the Assagai is more grippy and draggy than the Wild Enduros.

Agree that Big Betty is similar to DHRII

I would not equate a Mary and a Shorty. But I don’t think it does match a Maxxis tyre. Maybe to a DHRII or a Shorty II, but I haven’t tried one yet.

Mezzo here, useful for popping in car boot or taking on tube, terrible to carry anywhere.

The trick with any folding bike is to carry it as little as possible. For example, only fold it when waiting for the train, or already on board. And unfold before you get off. Not sure if that works when changing lines on the tube though.

I bought one this year, it’s ace. And now officially one in a million 😎
You’re right, it’s not the best bike in absolute terms, but it’s a bike you can take in situations where a normal bike can not be, so therefore it’s the bike you have. It beats walking.

I’m not seeing what you are seeing… Your Whippet isn’t that old, so quite in the middle of reach numbers. There are bikes with longer and shorter seat tubes.

The is the best review I have read in ages! Glowing praise yet also proper geeky nit picking which only a passionate enthusiast could think of. More like this please.

I like the product too. I’m just not sure I need it.

Unite have some nice prices at the moment. I ordered some new cranks and a chain device. I was tempted by their nice looking pedals too.

    Very cool! Enjoy.

IS brake mount is commonly used on steel frames because it’s easier / cheaper / lighter. It’s the same with Cotic etc.

Do you mean reach, top tube length, or the distance from saddle to handlebars?

Just checking because these established geometry definitions do get misused or misunderstood sometimes.

I suspect Lunicycles’ idea of a ‘lovely customer relationship’ is that you buy something more often than every 25 years 🤣

4 weeks notice won’t be a problem for your new employer when you do find a new job. If it’s a problem for you, then you can ask for it to be reduced when you hand in your resignation.

3 days away is THIS Saturday, 10 days away is NEXT Saturday.

    Is the correct answer

    yep, that’s my understanding too

I understand your frustration, but as a risk limiting feature it’s rather clever. If you can’t even start to thread the axle without a tool, there is less chance of it being put in and not done up properly.

I’ve twice bought ‘RS Ultimate’ series forks and have both times had to buy a QR Maxle separately to replace the stealth ones.

Fenix 6 pro and 6s pro are £300, 6X pro £330 at currys

I was also going to comment on this ‘deal’ (ahem). It would be nice if ST could perhaps add some editorial comment or scrutiny to the stuff they have been paid to promote. The pasted “The Fenix 6 Pro GPS Watch is the next generation of ultimate outdoor GPS smartwatches” stuff is clearly from the launch of this model years ago, and now totally incorrect.

Is there an ‘aggro gravel bike’ like that can still take a front mech? Not including the very nice but very expensive Evil Chamois Hagar.

45psi would feel rock hard if the tyre is wider than 2.3. Sounds like a dodgy gauge.

I’ve had a few hours to think about this… I imagine that in terms of ride it will feel at most times like a bike with more trail, that is a bike with a shorter offset fork, but without the wheel flop issues.
This will not be true when riding not hands.

Does your unit support mapping? I never use the ‘arrows’ for navigation, only ever a breadcrumb trail to follow. From that you can usually see if you are on the correct trail or not, but the junctions can be tricky, a bit trial and error, if the other trails are not on the map. That does stop the flow in a densely packed trail network.

There was a thread last week with many good reports of the Cura brakes:

Formula cura 4 vs magura mt5/mt7/trail sports

For me the levers went a little wobbly after 18months, but original replacements are very cheap. After that thread last week I ordered some bling replacements from EMRG.

Cura 4 are good brakes, but quite on/off in feel and more like Shimano than Sram.

The tyre in that vid is definitely not a super gravity carcass… 100%.

    No, it’s supertrail.
When I have more time in a couple of weeks I’ll do another one with a new supergravity and an insert.

That’s the trouble with good technique, it makes it look easy ;) . Although I agree that some tyre rim combos are worse than others. This combo in the video I would score 6/10. Too hard to do just with hands.

I just use normal jeans and then something underneath for extra warmth.

In the video above I use a large lever from Green Tyre. it’s a perfect shape for forcing the bead under the insert and in to the middle of the rim.

    better love story than twilight.
I enjoyed that for some reason.

Agreed, it’s got everything. A class bike, partner who rides and appreciates a class bike, contentment yet also wistful desire.

This thread seems to be suggesting that I should hang onto my Mk2 Cotic Solaris…

Or at least helps to reinforce it is a true classic that should be properly appreciated, and you should have a suitable replacement in hand and tested before you let it go.

I was thinking myself that although there are bikes that I haven’t gelled with, most of them have been a stepping stone to something else rather than an cut and dry mistake. However I then remembered my scaffold tubed Inbred. I sold a damaged yet brilliant EBB Inbred, and a fragile Specialized Stumpy FSR, for a newer model sliding drop out Inbred. That frame was the first generation with fatter tubing, and had none of the ride feel of the previous models. But that bike has since been passed to a friend, and then on again to a second. They have both been very happy with it. Pretty good for a 16yr old bike, including forks and wheels.

First, if the discs are worn, yes they should be replaced. There might be some safety margin, but even so it’s not where you want to take chances.

Second, yes it can cause the disc to rub. There are parts of the disc that don’t wear, like the spokes of the disc. On a worn disc these are fatter than the worn braking surface, which can reduce the clearance to the pads, and make rubbing my more likely. I have experienced this recently with Magura MT7, but the pad clearance on those is very small.

Yeah, I like your original plan. Adapters are available.
