First road race of the season on Saturday, 104km of very rolling terrain, just over 1,100 meters of climbing and an average speed of 37kph.

Got drowned by a passing storm after an hour or so but managed to hang onto the first bunch once the breakaway had gone clear, I didn’t have the legs to pull much though. Came home in the top 20 after bailing out of the manic sprint for the remaining top 10 places.

    Great fun!

A power meter is considerably more than 200 quid, so a good TrainerRoad approved turbo would be the best/cheapest way to get a figure to work from.

Unless you’re really into racing then the TR power value, even if incorrect, will be just as an effective training tool than a “real” power number. (Provided you keep the setup consistent).

However you can’t ride a turbo on the road/trails so if you’re a stats kinda person and need those numbers for every pedal stroke you turn then there’s not much else to do than payout for a power meter.

Genesis have a nice looking equilibrium Ti frame with disc mounts too, but with sloping TT.

Plenty of googling around has resulted in a an even longer list than i had imagined. With prices ranging from 1500 up to goodness knows what.

Agree that Enigma seem to produce stunning bikes.

Plenty of interesting options already on this thread, thanks.

Yeah nice that, not sure of the price inc. the Enve forks.

Not quite the horizontal TT, but close.

I use a Thinkpad X1 carbon for work.

Easily the best laptop I’ve had from a performance, and build quality standpoint, but the non-standard keyboard drives me insane! Beware

Did you create “Working like a Japanese prisoner of war. But a happy one”?

Always wondered about that segment name

I’m a natural mid to forefoot runner, so it not like I’m trying to change my style.

It more the difference in drop, as my road racing shoes which seem flat are 9mm.

However I appreciate how different trail is on the body having run a few distance races now.

Will seek out a pair and report back.

Up to two hours in training then nothing.

I use a 1liter Camalback for trail races over 20km, depending on race facilities.

I’ve tried good waistbelts but found them to move too much.

Nice looking bike, good mix of bits.

    Enjoy.

Saddle looks a little downward pointing though.

Same thing happened to my Suunto after the clocks changed.

I had to log out of the app and restart it to fix the problem.

    Might help in this case.

And this is clearly why manufacturers provide us consumers with so much choice.

To me the Super Six was tepid to ride providing no response apart from excessive vibrations. The front fork suffered from massive chatter too, but I’m pretty certain that was set up and not the bikes design at fault. Whilst the CAAD was pretty much the opposite, involving and full of positive feedback.

You pays your money you takes your choice.

In plastic frames its the layup/weave direction of the actual carbon, as well as the amount used.

In steel/ali frames I assume it to be the wall thickness.

    To my understanding:

laterally stiff = the frame not moving left to right under pedaling, therefore no wasted power as everything is going via the drivetrain to propel you forward

vertically compliant = the fame giving to absorb road vibrations, (think Trek Domane Isopeed as the extreme example)

. But you didn’t turn down a PX for a CAAD10, you turned down a SuperSix.

Having ridden both I’d take a CAAD10 over a SuperSix any day, nothing to do with reverse snobbery, but all to do with performance.

Thanks, not quite sure of the logic why it doesn’t fit when inflated but interesting to know that I could fit 27mm Vittoria Pavé’s.

    Loving this thread so far.

Agree that the horizontal top tube on the CAAD makes all the difference aesthetically.

What was max tyre clearance on the Bowman? Was it 25?

Liking the look of their Pilgrim as well.

Bars, stem and post have matched on every bike I’ve ever had up to my current Cannondale which has an OPI headset/stem so it broke the rule.

That sounds about right, 4.8W/kg, you’ll need more than that to be competitive on the road.

“De Kort’s 2015 Paris-Roubaix ride was equivalent to him riding at 321 watts (4.6 watts per kilo) for over six hours – an effort many amateurs would struggle to maintain for 20 minutes.”

There’s nothing stopping a wire transfer to a Swedish child’s saving account, apart from the fee incurred each time.

However there is no tax or legal reasons why it shouldn’t be possible to open an account in the UK for them however as stated the amount of paperwork required due to money laundering checks is so prohibitive that it seems banks won’t do it.

My parents are UK residents, my children are not. There’s no tax or legal reason why it should be an issue but the banks see this as poor return business so just don’t bother.

    The-Swedish-Chef

The issues seem to come from the fact that my children reside overseas.

Amazed you don’t need photo ID to vote in the UK. That opens a huge hole to pass dodgy votes through.

Some lovely builds on this thread, especially that Campy one above!

How are the brakes mixing Chorus levers and TRP calipers?

    We’ve gone through:
    16″ Merida Dino
    20″ Specialized Hardrock
    24″ Scott Scale

All can be made massively lighter by changing out bars, seatposts, saddles, and tyres.

Braking can be drastically improved by installing XT V-brakes.

    The-Swedish-Chef

Hmm like that a lot. As much as I’m a Campy fan that Ultegra groupset matches really well and seems totally in keeping with the purpose of the frame.

Echo the comments on the stem and post though.

    Envious.
