How about some deep section aero wheels?

Depends on how good the OP is. At speeds over roughly 35-40 kph then yes, deep rims may well be a good investment, at lower speeds then lighter wheels will give more benefit.

As much as I think they look silly, get an aero helmet. Changing your bike so close to the event is not a good idea. You may save some time, certainly not 45 minutes, but at what cost to your run time?

Its no good ripping the bike part up if you’re crippled on the run and only manage to stagger round in 5 hours!

Looks a laugh, but really, there is so much real rock to climb in Switzerland why bother?

I lined up against the current men’s 55’s World Champ yesterday, Benny Andersson, he was running 1*10 on his 29er. He had a MRP and beat me by around 8 minutes, (after also winning the vets race earlier on in the day), so weight not really an issue there.

Because no matter how fit I get it will still be more bike than I need.

Gothenburg’s great, but its not Stockholm.

Stockholm is picture postcard pretty and a great place to visit with a family/loved one.

Yes booze is expensive, but what % of a days cost is it? Judging by most peoples comments it must be 50%

Berns is an excellent hotel, I always try and stay there when in Stockholm on business.

Having had an SRAM PowerLink chain on my cross bike I’d never have another Shimano one, the ease of cleaning it is great and increases its life. New SRAM cassette and chaion going on my MTB this weekend.

If you can only afford one suit then get two pairs of pants with it, as these wear out a lot quicker than jackets will, and will therefore return far great value for money over time.

Yearly salary has little to do with how much a suit should cost. Most people on hear are students with 3K bikes 😀

If you’re working in an environment where a suit is required then at a minimum you’ll need 3 to rotate, and that’s without getting into summer and winter weight cloths.

The exchange rate for you guys sucks at the moment, thus making it seem even more expensive, Stockholm compares to the city for prices, whilst it gets cheaper the futher from it you travel.

Just make sure it fits, much better to buy a cheaper M&S suit and take it to a tailor to fix the arm length, back, and pants, than to buy a branded suite that doesn’t fit.

Classic XC with pits OK, but yeah, for marathon type events it does seem a little pointless. It would make one serious long walk home in the worst case.

Still, loving the trad looking sidewalls though 8)

Last weekend of my endurance base work.
Saturday ride 130km on road to parents in law
    Sunday, ride back again

In-between eat, sleep, and play with the children/wife who drove there today

They’ll always be someone quicker than you, and someone will always be “last” in a group ride. Such is life.

Speed and distance goals don’t really work off road as the terrain is so hard to compare, however.

To ride faster, simply ride faster. Maybe try a shorter route than normal at a quicker pace. Maybe do two short loops at different speeds to evaluate what you feel comfortable at.

Unless the planned ride is a few months off nothing in the short term will make you quicker, just enjoy it.

Canyon have a good sales organisation in Sweden, you could always go through them, however the pound/kr rate is not so good for you guys at the moment.

There is even a very good discount on frames for those with a racing license.

    I’d look at Canyon too

It looks like a great bike, as does their AR5? Be interested to hear from anyone who’s ridden both.

I’m just not sure that the MTB world can be portrayed in the same editorial light as the road world.

I love Rouluer magazine and look forward to its arrival and regularly re-read back issues.

Both issues of Privateer, whilst being well produced, are lacking in something that makes me want to revisit them.

Rouluer for the road and The Ride Journal for the soul.

What are MTB tyres like on rollers?

I’ve been thinking about getting a set for CX warm up but I’m not sure, are they smoother than a turbo with MTB rubber?

I’d look at Ribble bikes, for £1100 you can get a carbon framed bike with Shimano 105. Fairly average wheels, (most wheels are at that price), but these can be upgraded later, the frame and gearing will last some time!

Ribble frames are made by Pedal Force or Deddacciai, the later also supply to DeRosa amongst others.

^ interesting didgerman, what % efficient are world class swimmers?

I read somewhere, but can’t find it that Poppov, (Russian who was knifed), was something like 9% efficient, meaning that 91% of his energy was spent on not drowning whilst only 9% was spent on actually moving forwards.

    This this about right?

    15 weeks is loads.

    Swimming is all technique!

Join a club, get a coach, read a book. With good technique your easily be able to swim 2K well enough.

There was a good thread a month or so back on this topic

Climbed a lot for about 4 years when I first moved to Sweden, leading 7’s in sport and low E’s on trad. Had a serious fall, tried to return to the sport but the fall combined with having children meant I lost the will so took up cycling again.

We’ve had snow on ground since November and only a handful of days above plus. The days I’ve got out have been fantastic, the 50 odd sessions on the turbo have been rewarding.

Racing season starts for me in 6 weeks, so motivation levels are currently running at 10.

Im doing a 24 hour race solo in about 8 weeks time so want to keep up the training for that really

Then you need to ride a bike, simple as that. Look at hiring one, google the area your going to before hand and get in contact with a local shop, maybe they can get an arrangement with the hotel for storage?

If you can manage 2 10km runs and 2 gym sessions in a week then by most definitions you’re “fit”.

Its not possible to get “fit” in a week, it is however possible to try lots of different ways of exercising to find out what you like, and then commit to those that you like when you return.

Nice bike that, going for the full commuter look with mudguards?
