“Stars and water carriers” is very much in the same light.

Quieter than my “old” turbo, but a long way from silent. I can easily hear my laptop play music when its in front of me when I’m training though.

Yeah I use the Elite V-Arion Parabolic Inertial ones. I can get over 600 watts with a 53 * 12, without scaring myself too much.

Saw those as well, interesting. Would like some real life reports first. As you say not that much in it weight wise, but boy are they bling!

Rollers rock, both for technique and interval work. I do all my sessions on them, Tabata, Sufferfest, you name it.

They can be used with nobblies but IMO I’d only go that route for warm up before races.

I do mine with the stuff from Fired Earth, works a treat and the floor gets shiny and very slippery as a result.

National cup, rounds 8 and 9 this weekend. Placed 7, and 10th on a super hard course just outside Stockholm.

Yes that is a ski lift in the background, made for a grinding climb and fast descent on the first day and then a lovely muddy run up the second

    +1 bikebouy, very nicely put.

That your R5 has very good pedalling stiffness, (bottom bracket), and average steering stiffness, whilst Giant’s don’t flex in the slightest.

    Glad to hear it!

Tricky, stretch the tires on some old rims for a few days at 3 bar or so, glue then re-glue both the rims and the tires, leaving around half a day between glueing so they dry, then apply final glue and fight to get the bugger on. Add Aquaseal if using Dugast’s

I found using an old toothbrush really useful.

Tubs held then Mulletus Maximus? Nice glueing!

2XU are very nice, if a little pricey.

42 tooth, single ring, 12-27 sram cassette. Perfect for racing

I found using an old toothbrush the best way to apply glue to a tub.

Pre-stretching was critical otherwise the damn things just don’t go on.

Don’t do it anywhere near your lounge carpet/wooden flooring either 😀

Tubs are fantastic and offer advantages over tubeless/clincher tyres, even if you’re training rather than racing on cross like terrain then you’re most likely love them.

Glueing etc is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

15 to go and its getting very slippery out there!

Absolutely love my PowerTap for tracking progress and forcing me to train at the right level.

If you can’t stretch to one of those then the Kurt trainers and TrainerRoad software would be an alternative worth looking into.

Rorschach, is the Swiss Cross as nice in the flesh as it is in pictures?

I started with the Elite Arion Parabolic Rollers, then upgraded to their V-Arion Parabolic Inertial Rollers when I realized that I’d never need a turbo trainer again. Both are very good.

Just make sure you’ve got something to hang on to when you use them the first few times. Takes a while but its well worth it.

I don’t think you need trainer specific tires for rollers, they are made for turbo’s. Any slick mtb tire will do.

The Elite V-Arion is an excellent roller, nice choice.

I’d second the option for getting another set of wheels as it just makes using the bike both off road and on the roller so much easier.

Get one second hand to begin with. Loads of people buy them and then don’t use them so there are plenty around.

Spend the difference on Sufferfest films to keep you interested in using it.

If you’re streaming at 160kps is it really worth getting a dock given quality of the sound from the source?

I’ve got one of those amps, they’re not too bad. Nice retro finish.

Any device would need an internet connection, either hard wired or via WiFi. Do iPods have this?

An iPad or similar would be perfect for it. Simply get a cable to split the headphone out into left and right channels and use the Aux input into your HiFi.

Sorry, meant Crux, not TriCross 😳

Anyway the Crux has a 425mm chainstay, whilst the TriCross has a 440mm one. Plenty short enough.

As for repair, well both ali and carbon are tricky but can be done, but for pure racing the weight disadvantage of steel rules it out.

To be fair I can’t say I’ve ever bought a frame based on how easy it was to repair.

I’m not sure, tubs are normally built up to spec, so there are less factory wheelsets available.

Having said that a fair few people are on random Chinese carbon jobies from e-bay this season.

I’m using Velocity, Major Tom’s with Hope Pro3 hubs.

Classic other rim choices are Ambrosio Nemesis and Mavic Reflex.

For ali frames definitely look at the Specialized TriCross and the Giant TCX. Paired with a good set of wheels and tubs these bikes have won national and world champs.

Excellent response by Millar, as normal.

Sad day indeed, one more excuse to move to a franchished system for pro cycling?

Sweeping statement, but I’d say people would benefit most from Angels and The Hunted, as these cover longer intervals, more in line with general riding then the short high intensity work in Revolver or Downward Spiral. IMO

The files are .mp4, so if iPads play that format then yes

Been using the Sufferfest erg file for suggested power outputs per intensity level, seriously thinking about trialling Trainer Road next, providing I can get an ANT+ usb stick. Then I can get my Powertap reading directly on-screen along with suggest power output.

    Hmm geektastic training.

So Nike have dropped him, good, and he’s stepped down as chairman of Livestrong, wise.
