Thanks guys, some good ideas there.

Here to Sunday night but with no access to a bike so I’ve been out running on the downs instead. I’ll wave to all MTB’ers sliding past in the mud.

The new Charge Cooker or Cannondale look interesting at around 600 quid. Both are rigid specific 29ers

Nice photo’s, nice bike, now get it dirty

I use one, find it useful as it bleeps at me at times when my eyes are normally closed.

Fail to see the relevance with Strava though, one counts down from 20 then 10 seconds, whilst the other maps rides.

Alpina 15 speed MTB, first real bike, snapped two frames before moving the third on before it went the same way. Very fond memories

Thanks guys, interesting. Might play around with the idea of a rigid 96er.

If the forks were the same AtC then the difference is the roughly 1.5cm radius change in the front wheel. Does that really equate to 2 degrees diff in head angle?

Anybody tried running a 96er, as the AtC height for rigid suspension corrected forks seem to allow for it?

The one with the better technique.

Edit: Magnus Backstedt was almost 15 stone and he won Paris Roubaix

Not unless it weighs 7.5kg and has Zipp wheels, otherwise its a perfectly acceptable purchase.

    Most likely cheaper after Christmas.

Last two rounds of the Swedish national cup, may have just sneaked into the top ten overall, but snow is my least favourite surface.

Hmm, that’s going to be really nice, trouble is you’ll have no excuses with a bike like that 😀

As an opposing view I do all my intervals on rollers, (they have resistance).

As I’m curious I’ll turn off the resistance tonight and see what difference is makes to what power I can put out.

A23’s for tubeless or even better Major Tom’s for tubs.

    Can recommend http://www.stradawheels.co.uk/

No not SID’s, although I ridden them quite a bit and can’t really nice the flex that everybody says they experience with them.

Considering DT Swiss for next year as the Reba’s are getting on some what.

This year’s XC race bike. Trek 9.9ssl with XT bits, Reba Race, and American Classic wheels.

(Frame potentially for sale, size 19.5)

FSA cranksets are not too well liked on this forum.

I was given a pot of the Rapha stuff last Christmas and I’ve used it for CX racing and cold road sessions, (in minus degrees), and it works well. I’ll get more when its finished although whether it’ll be Rapha or not depends on availability and timing.

Actually I’ll take that back, 420 watts for someone weighing in a 65 kg is rather impressive as that’s 6.4w/kg

    Edit: second number is liters/minute

Its a big number, but maybe not quite as big as I’d have thought for someone placing top 20 in WC’s.

Just goes to show how much technique plays it’s part in MTB.

Local race this morning, minus 6 when we set off. Nice little 40 mins before the last two rounds of the national cup next weekend. Managed to put a hole in my tights/knee after misjudging a corners entry speed 😳

Frozen ground and low pressure tubs makes for some interesting sensations going through the bike!

I’ll try and join you over the Christmas period as I’m staying with my folks in Shoreham for a couple of weeks.

Elite level XC riders do a lot of gym work, unlike their roadie brothers. However most normal people would be better off simply riding more. That said if you can’t get out and ride then intervals on the treadmill/rower/stationary bike would be of huge benefit.

Core strength work and old school leg work wouldn’t go amiss but I’d place more time on intervals

    +1 on that

Peal the sticker off, it’s a death trap!

Not noticeably more noisy than the non resistance ones I had before, but I grant you that they are maybe not Chris King level of quality. That said mine don’t screech like a cat.

Spray some WD40 in the back and see what happens.

I ran my CX bike as a summer road bike this year, despite not having water bottle cage mounts.

I ran a zero degree 110mm stem compared to a +6 degree 90mm stem for cross. I also run the bars slightly angled up and with the hoods higher for cross.

Other changes include a front mech and a 53 tooth big ring. Works for me, works for a lot of CX pro’s like Tim Johnsson.

I’ve been using these for a while as they come from my current home of Gothenburg. Great for warm up rides before cross races!

Make sure the front hub is over the roller, not in front or behind it, adjustment may be needed if the roller was set up for a road bike.

Are there any rollers that are better suited to out-of-the-saddle mashing?

They all are, technique limiting. However the parabolic ones do give a certain amount of leeway when things get off centre a little.
