  • Laps and Loops: Is It Time To Rethink Trail Centre Designs?

Slightly worried about giving training advice to someone recovering from a bout of ME. However the principles are quite simple, either shorter and faster/harder than your normal ride time, or ride slower and longer.

If your standard ride with your mates is a couple of hours then ride for longer at a slower tempo sometimes, but more importantly for people in real world, (time commitments), ride for a hour faster/harder. Either as intervals, (blast the hills), or at a solid tempo you know you couldn’t hold for more than an hour.

In the shed, OK down to minus 15, then it goes in the laundry room.

I use mine, (rollers), all year round, brilliant for structured sessions and testing the fitness levels

It works quite well, despite being mounted at 90 degrees to where you’d want it.

For running I find it best to set the autolap to every KM/Mile, as then you’ll get a good idea of the pace your going at.

I think you think way too much, Just eat more pasta the night before and a healthy dose of porridge and banana before you ride.

    +1

Seemed to be a fair few people on the trail for a “closed trail”, or did you mean closed to bikes normally?

Jo Friel guide says Power jumps, 5 sets of 5 jumps, each jump is 10 12 revolutions (each leg), high cadence with a minimum of 1 minute recovery between jumps and 5 between intervals. Think power and technique

Not heard of that before. How often would you do that before an event, 1x a week for 6 weeks prior?

Actually that’s not too bad a guess.

I use that type of timescale for tabata workouts as a sharpener before the CX and XC season, despite doing regular intervals and tempo work all year long.

The efforts should be consistent however and not induce fading in the 5, 6, 7, 8th intervals. OK maybe the last one 😀 (170% of FTP was used in the original study)

123km running at an average of 14km/h
70km cycling, of which 50km was on rollers, at an average of 33km/h
7.5km rowing, in one session, at an average of 11,25km/h

    All in 18 sessions

Speak to Engima, their CX disk bike for the custom show looks rather fine, I’m sure they could make one with sliding droputs.

Not sure how available they are in the UK, but look at GEAX tyres, the Saguaro, Gato, or the Aka.

    Interesting video, thanks for posting.

Stunning car, (in road config), but the pure single-mindedness of the venture is what inspires me. The antithesis of today’s instant society.

Thought you/the little guy stood a good chance of the overall to be honest. Quality effort!

A GIOS with Campy would be very high up my list, in the style of the great Roger de Vlaeminck.

Nighthawks by Hopper, loved it since I was 8 and first saw it:

Even liked the Mint Sauce take on it

For road riding then Tenerife is an absolute must, great roads, brilliant climbs, and good night life if that’s a requirement as well.

Been there two years in a row for a family holiday and simply hired a bike whilst I was there, (pre-ordered online), nothing special a 20 speed bWin model, but quite honestly the ridings so good it made no difference. Not having a non-compact chainset might if you’re not fit though.

I raced with ZipVit this year, the mix is OK and the gels were very good, just not in the same race.

Will be using either Torq or Sponsor this season, depending which trial pack I get on best with.

OK, but the requirement of having a coffee machine with timer will reduce your overall choice in the market. Just suggesting that I’d find a coffee machine that fulfils the requirement to make good coffee, and then find a solution to the timer issue.

Use your current one and simply plug it into a wall socket timer?

Mine’s being looked at by Trek to see if the paint crack is in fact, as feared, a more structural one.

Time to test Treks replacement policy again, this being the replacement frame for the original…..

If you eat a healthy dinner within an hour after you finish training I really can’t see the need to take anything additional.

However if I know that it will be an hour plus before I re-fuel then I will take a protein drink directly after a hard session, else water is sufficiant. This is most likely more placebo but I feel better for it.

Silver, (just to be a stereotypical STWer and answer a question with a choice not presented in the question), along with stem and post in silver too. Classic, the frame deserves it.

Love 3T stuff, have stems and bars on both my MTB and CX.

ARX team range cheap with “normal” colours. Would be OK on a bike which was based around white, however with everything, its on sale for a reason.

Matching bars and post as well?

Next issue of this very journal is meant to have the Charge, Cannondale, and a few other 29er SS rigids in for review. Awaiting with interest.

85 quid for clincher is a lot, almost Dugast/FMB tubs territory.

If you must have clinchers, (and I highly recommend tubs), then look at Challenge.

Agree with the comments regarding the room, this was partly what started my down grading. The bugging knowledge that having one doubled heighted wall made almost of glass and a relatively minimal interior was far from optimal was too much.

Untimely happier with a modest setup and a lounge not arranged around a pair of speakers.

Guardian/Telegraph/BBC, all via the web. Then some Swedish ones if I’m in the mood.

Nothing printed, would love a subscription to The Economist but know I don’t have time/inclination to read it every week.

I use mine for all my intervals including tabata, 800 watts is doable if your techniques up to it. I do have the Elite ones with resistance though, howevrr i only have a 42 tooth chain ring, so those with a 53 would get a good workout even on normal rollers

    The-Swedish-Chef

I use my rollers all year round for specific sessons. Granted more in the winter when its minus 10 out and covered in snow. However I still do one session a week on them even when its plus 20 and dry out.

They just save so much time and hassle.

What was the test that gave you the figure of 333? Curious, that’s all

Glad to hear you’ve got a plan and the dedication to train.

If your FTP is 333 in Jan you’ll be in top half of expert class come summer.

Brilliant shoes if they fit you, online purchase warning there.

I have a 3 year old pair that I’ve just replaced all the bits to and they are like new again
