90 minutes of Perkins today, completely disgusting weather outside and feeling a little run down after an unusually stressful week. NP of 184 and aTSS of 73, so,hopefully I’ll be up to running 20 odd K of trails tomorrow.

Taken from the excellent Ross Tucker

Trouble is the performance transformation came right in the middle of our two “snapshots”, and that leaves a big ‘hole’. I don’t think anyone can deny this. That hole has been filled by bilharzia (and a little bit of asthma), as far as explanations go.

The interesting bit is not the test results taken recently, which unsurprising show the numbers of a GC contender, but the comparison to those taken in 2007, which also show GC contender numbers.

This opens the question as to why was he so poor at Barlo World, and as Micheal Rassumsman pointed out why was he so bad in the ITT at the 2006 Commonwealth Games when he had the power to weigh ratio to be a medal hope and not trail in 5 minutes behind the winner.

Also WTF happened between the tour of Poland where he was in the groupetto to the Velta where the only reason he didn’t win was because he was helping Wiggins.

My sleep is only really effected if I totally destroy myself with a race intensity effort. I can pass out quickly but will wake up with killer calf muscle ache around 4 hours later.

Most odd, stretching doesn’t seem to help. Happens from training occasionally and racing most of the time.

Double dose of Sufferlandria this morning. TGTTOS followed up with Extra Shot.

    Lovely!

A lot of comments are still applicable 12 months later, like wait until next year for 4iiii

Brilliant fork for XC racing, can’t comment on any other usage but the evidence seems to suggest that they can take some serious descending as well.

Downsides are twofold. You’ll find it hard to borrow a mates front wheel if you pringle yours and that Thule fork fitting rack won’t work anymore.

A very dark place done tonight, very nearly killed me and the last interval was below target power, but wow you just know that something that uncomfortable must be doing you so much good. 8)

Brilliant jackets for the right climate but far too warm for the UK.

I have minus 12 forecast for when I wake up tomorrow and will be pulling out The NorthFace down parka.

Somewhat disappointed to hear all these problems with the Kickr, seems power meters in general are very sensitive (by nature I guess). Pity considering the cost of them.

    That was freaking great 😀

Managed to not see the result then watch it on the UCI channel 8)

Very nice! Aiming for something very similar myself. Almost there with the parts, then the build can begin.

I don’t think so, its not showing in the TR feed for the STW team.

Not sure if in the App I can then choose to ride it if I stalk your feed.

    Trevor?

Kristoff seems to do OK on a Canyon, so do Movistar so they can’t have complaints about the bikes.

However poor things need to use DoubleTap shifters 😮

    Glad we cleared that up.

Yes a road team, being created out the ashes of the former Velocio-SRAM team.

So one team goes and another one starts, Pro cycling was ever so.

Pain and aches inside on a turbo can be a tell tale sign of positioning or cleat issues.

These niggles don’t surface when riding on the road as you’re always changing your body position, but on the turbo/rollers you tend to sit a lot stiller and thus anything not entirely right gets shown up.

    Just a thought.

Angels for me tonight, managed to hit the numbers so its time to up the FTP by 5, ooh goody!

The would be the a good solution to your situation, something like Givens +3 from the plan.

However can you not ride some hill repeats one morning before the household wakes up? You’ll be done in 30 minutes and will most likely be in a better mood for it, (I know I would be).

    Stove top, strong and black.

But your point is valid, however my understanding is that its generally seen as training with no carbs, protein, fat consumed in the morning before training.

S-works stem and rubber on a Trek!

Nice looking bike that, race it hard.

Stybar kicked off the whole pink CX bike thing and I think its great

How much difference do you think training fasted makes to your performance?

Rate it highly, I do all my morning runs and bike sessions up to 2 hours on coffee alone. I feel much better for it, both whilst training and after it.

None of my time on the rollers is spent specifically training at Z2, (unless I’m trying to sweat some cold out of my body like today. Homers Nose at a TSS of 42)

I do however spend up to 2 hours on them.

Liked my 34t one from AB, found it easier to maintain a smooth pedal stroke over rough tree roots and rocks etc. found no major difference whilst climbing.

Would have got an oval 36t had they have made one.

I do all my sessions on rollers, fine for up to 700 watts then things get interesting

    The-Swedish-Chef

Over 90 minutes, even on the rollers, it’s a case of HTFU I’m afraid.

Why is everyone doing intervals/anaerobic in the middle of winter?

Because we work 40+ hours a week and can’t train like pro’s so interval training is a more effective and efficient way to train.

    The-Swedish-Chef

If you’re doing the base training plan but doing the entire session at 10-15 watts more than required then you aren’t really doing base training anymore. (On the assumption that your FTP is correct). IMO

It’s kinda a no mans zone, slightly lower than sweet spot, but harder than what’s specified for traditional base.

Whether it makes a difference, I don’t know, but I assume the coaches at TR have set those levels for a reason.

Use the TSS and IF scores to determine the hardness of the session.

A TSS of 100 means riding at your FTP for one hour, so max and pretty much unachievable. Anything that’s over 85 and 60 minutes in length is going to feel damn hard.

@howsyourdad1 you didn’t ride hard enough if you enjoyed it 😀

@robbie for rollers your need a rear wheel speed sensor and optionally a cadence sensor. You don’t need a Garmin as your laptop is effectively the head unit. I seem to remember that decathlon had bike ANT+/Bluetooth sensors. Your laptop will also need ANT+/Bluetooth receiver. For laptop also read, iPad, tablet, smartphone

I spent 45 minutes riding the new Do As Your Told Sufferfest film tonight, lots of explosive sprints, which on rollers is pretty hard to do. Felt quite easy so either I had good legs of the FTP needs increasing.

Might be an issue but PM sent.

Not, more likely the opposite. For most people getting outside and actually riding as opposed to banging out sessions refreshes the mind and helps them cope with the riggers of the turbo.

Opinion given knowing nothing about your training plans but assumed that sweet spot and November means no racing in the near future

Yeah those or the eXotic ones come it at under 800 grams which is kinda nice weight wise.

Some excellent input on this thread, thanks.

I only have the forks, wheels, and brakes to go then we’re there. However the forks kinda dictate what wheels I’m after regarding axles.

    Fun project though.
