I use mine all the time with the Forerunner stap. Useful tip is to get it to auto lap every km or mile as this gives you excellent feedback on pacing, (providing you know your desired splits).

I’m currently lusting after a Canyon Ultimate Al with Campy Athena, stunning value, and more bike than I’d ever need.

It seems barefoot running is like Singlespeeding for your feet

That’s the funniest thing I’ve read today, thanks 😆

Tallinn is a very nice city, well worth strolling around and trying the find the highly entertaining sign post for “kikidekok” or whatever it is.

Riga less so, however the night club Studio69 left an impression on me.

Firstly it seems those results more than validate an entry, everybody is cannon fodder except the winner.

Secondly its not your fault that you were organised and entered early.

Race, attack like your life depended on it, get lapped, then use all the hot water in the showers.

Seat tube angle looks relaxed on that Shand, lovely colourway though!

Edit, maybe not on seconds thoughts, might be just the frame size. Either way its nice

Nice build, liking the subtle red bits, however I think a silver chainset would have worked very nicely and complemented the brakes/mechs much better than the black one.

Our club, and quite a few to others, have MTB sessions for youngsters, (7 upwards), these are very popular and let the little ones ride with others of their age. Generally riding XC loops and parkland.

The more competitive can ones then progress to training with the different groups on other nights. We have a number of 12-14 year olds who are more than able to hold their own doing every other interval in an adult based session.

The most important thing is for them to have fun.

Its not just a case of knowing the power your outputting, you also need to know what that power is in relation to your current fitness, e.g. what % of FTP should you be working at?

If you’re new to training and/or getting fitter, rather than maintaining fitness, then your FTP will change, (hopefully increase), quite a lot. This therefore requires you to get tested regularly, at a cost, or guess your FTP, in which case why worry about getting accurate power readings….

It would be better, (read cheaper), to perform some of the tests documented by Joe Friel, which don’t need a power meter, as these are easily repeatable.

Perceived Exertion level, 1 walking to 10 I’m gonna die if I don’t stop now.

Its been shown that RPE in experienced athletes is a very effective measure.

    disappointing

That ain’t bad for non carbon rims and a full range of gears!

Normally there is a little lightning graphic to indicate a power meter was used, however none is showing.

The 20 minute peak is an absolute mind blowing 560 watts, or 7W/kg!

    They fastbirds or rhinos?

Interesting comments re Tufo’s as that seems to hold true when talking about their cross tubs as well. I think the extra grip comes from the more flexible sidewalls.

    400, WOW, that’s very good!

Edited to add that I though the original price was considerably higher

How is there only 2.5lbs difference between a hardtail carbon Scott 29er with tubs, carbon rims, and XX, verses a FS Giant 26er with 3*9XT?

    Stunning bike there Riverdog!

Extremely when I’ve a race number pinned on or training.

However group rides are groups rides and the emphasis is on fun, so the power meter stays at home.

I’d look at the Boardman range if you’re sure you want disks, however if you drop that requirement then you open up a huge range of bikes.

Cross bikes ride fine on the road and its very easy get another set of wheels with dedicated road tyres for faster days.

Ridley make great cross bikes, not really fair to compare them to an X as they’re designed for different things, (pure out and out racing against off-road riding with drops, fine for racing but more relaxed).

Bike Rumor has it too. In theory it effects all licensed riders in all races not sanctioned.

I’ll be taking a gel every 9km with a small amount of water. I also use energy chews. I have however tested these in training so I know they work for me.

I wouldn’t test anything new in a race that I hadn’t tested in training.

I’ve been running the KCNC ones, (without a guide), this year and haven’t dropped a chain as yet. Proper training starts in a week so I’ll reserve judgement until I hit stuff at racing speed.

Racing the middle to the end of the season once I get my marathon race out the way.

Will race the 30-40 age group over here, including the national XC and marathon champs, as well as a few rounds of the national series.

Trek 9.9ssl with 1*10 gripshift, and American Classic wheels.

Never done 6 * 5 mins off 1, interesting, must try that. Numbers wise, higher than my 2 * 20 power, but lower then the 4 * 4 one.

I found two sessions in particular very useful and used them weekly.

The first is a classic Nordic session that seems to be applied for XC skiing, running, cycling, whatever.

Its 4 * 4 minutes off 2 minutes recovery, aiming for a consistent effort across all 4 intervals. Mentally and physically really hard!

The other, (as linked to), is 2 * 20 minutes off 5 minutes recovery, again at a consistent level. Effort is manageable, but still hard. I still use this session as my only cycling based workout as I’m now running seriously again.

Done regularly I really noticed good improvements with increased power and decreased average H/R.
