It takes practice, and some rollers are easier than others to stand up and sprint on. I find the Elite ones I’ve got pretty hard. This is where a turbo would be a good complement.

I love Campy gear, I’ve been using 11sp carbon Athena/Record mix on my Ridley, as well as Campy wheels. Doubt I’d ever go back to Shimano for the road.

That said I’ve had Dura Ace on my cyclocross bike for 4 seasons and its sill works brilliantly. Horses for courses.

Oh and SRAM for the MTB. Spread the wealth.

YEAH! Many thanks to James, that’s what I need.

Let the re-spray project continue, now I just need to get some decals made up

A lot of the Garmin team rode S3’s as apposed to S5’s this year, says something I guess.

Nice bike, although there are a lot of nice bikes at that price point.

It takes practice, but you’ll learn. I do all my sessions on rollers.

Although I’ve never needed to touch the laptop during a session.

Google films on Swim Smooth and/or Total Immersion, these are the two leading schools of thought regarding technique

As has been said its good for long winter activities at a medium too low intensity, but brilliant for socks. I’ve got a few Icebreaker tops from about 10 years ago which have worn well.

Racing and high intensity work I’ll reach for the Craft cool mesh range.

Revolver tonight, just adding some finishing touches to the form before my first national CX race of the year on Sat and Sun.

32 for climbing, 34 for the fast stuff to equal what you’ve got. Get both and simply change them depending on the course, no need to change the chain length. Simple solution.

Why not 1×10 with an 11-36 on the rear

For normal riding this is fine as I’ve been running it all year, however there are times in races where I miss the extremes that 10-42 gives, especially where there is a tarmac master start for example and the pace is through the roof to be the first to the singletrack.

Would I be able to get close to that range with 1 x 11?

As near as damn it, yes, assuming SRAM 10-42

Yes to a new hub for SRAM 11sp, no to Shimano’s when it comes out, although theirs is 11-40 I think, so a slight loss at either end regarding gear ratios.

Can CK hubs be converted to 11sp? maybe

The Scott Scale 24″ we have is 12.25kg, which I’m guessing is stock, however I bought it used so I can’t be sure.

Bars and post look good places to save a fair amount of weight too.

Well its started, good luck to all those involved.

The live tracker on the phone app is very good, as is the whole app actually. Can see myself using up a lot of time/data checking up on their progress.

Good article, thanks for posting the link.

Interesting that cycling is only 22% efficient at best.

Kryton57, what did you think of Tioga?

    15 * 500w, sounds like Sufferfest’s Revolver.

HV71 v Frölunda Indians is the big game on the 26th Dec. Got tickets for me and my boys.

Having spent all of 3 days in Philadelphia earlier this year I’m now a huge Flyers fan!

Ohh yes. Having spent the previous 18 months working at Volvo Penta and now at Volvo Cars its pretty hard to miss.

No Team Puma this time round though, need to pick a team to follow so go Team SCA.

105 STIs will offer hidden cable management, whilst the Tiagra will not, (unless they have been updated 2015).

From a pure aesthetic point of view hidden cables are so much nicer.

TrainerRoad supports Bluetooth Smart, which a quick Google for TomTom Multisports seems to indicate that it uses that protocol, so all being well it should work.

Worth downloading and trying out, but you’ll need a way for the your sensors to talk to your laptop, like a Bluetooth Smart dongle or USB stick.

    2 sets of 3 * 4 minutes off 2, with 10 minutes bewteen sets.

New lowered FTP after my 20 minute test and it felt too easy to be honest, so I’ll bash out a Sufferfest this weekend to really see whether its correct or not.

I just got a Scott Scale JR24 for my eldest son who is just turning 8, second hand, not particularly cheap, but well worth it.

I’m amazed at what he can cycle up, as well as the distance he can cover. I think weight is the key issue here, and had I’d been in the UK then the Hoy 24″ model with rigid forks would have been interesting to look at too.

    Paleo diet for Athletes.

Somewhat technical/dry in its content, classic Joe Friel in many ways in that it reads like his training bibles.

Liking the concept not liking the doubling of my food bill this massive shift would require.

As soon as AbsoluteBlack have a 34t 104 bcd ring available I’m in. Very interested to try these 8)

    Yup, F3 in large.

Tiny amount moving to XT pedals, as the shop were out of stock and they were included in the deal.

Going 1*10 will lose 300grams I guess, then a little more moving to Gripshift.

Cassette is almost 400grams, so 150 or so to lose there.

Saddle and bar for the rest.

Cranks and BB are 870grams so potential there, but getting towards big money.

    10.99kg as bought
    10.82kg tubeless

830 grams to lose, then I guess things start getting expensive

That’s one of the “tweaks” that needs doing, although it’ll take a few weeks as Absolute Black haven’t released their 34t oval ring yet.

Other short term upgrades are going tubeless and getting new grips.

Well that was fun. Need a few tweaks to make it feel right, however for a quick spin with my son, also on his new Scott Scale JR24, it felt pretty damn nice.

Has anyone tried the “Elements of Style” Sufferfest video?

Yeah it’s quite good for what it is, which is essentially making a G1 session on the rollers/turbo feel slightly more interesting than it is.

Nice footage and well shot, the Carlton Kirby commentary is a Marmite thing to be honest.

Clearly Konig will be a big help in the hills, but it also gives them something for the lumpy classics as well. Which is good as this year’s performance was bordering on disrespectful.

Roche has the ability to win all the one week races from the Tour Down Under all the way through to Paris-Nice. However will SKY decide to do that?

20 minute FTP test tonight to create a baseline for the forthcoming winter madness.

Using virtual power now as my PowerTap has blown it guts, so as long as TR is consistent then it should be fine as I rarely used power data on outside rides.

Slightly depressing number compared to my June peak, (done on a Monark scientific test bike), but it’ll give me something to improve upon.
