    This has kinda passed me by as I don’t follow the climbing media much now, so without want to open a can of ethical worms,

    and placed other gear on abseil

    , really, is it not a ground up attempt?

    His standard race plan then!

    Stevens must be pissed, they’ve made a load of custom national champ coloured bikes for him and he’s used them in 3 races!

    Time to hit ebay.de for a bargain?

    I can only hear my laptop during the rest periods between intervals, so goodness knows what I missed!

    What fantastic commentary from that US race!

    “he’s never been a good runner on his feet”

    “this is probably the best cross course we’ve had in the modern times”
    “yes, pity we’re never coming back” – priceless

    Big ring seems expensive, look at TA or Stronglight as alternatives.

    Seems a pity to dump Athena for 105 🙁

    How can going 105 be cheaper than replacing a chain and cassette?

    Even if it’s Campy 11sp then its less than 150 quid. How much are 105 STi units along?

    Its well worth looking for, it was, as irelanst says, an excellent race.

    TR has all the Sufferfest sessions in so you can just select the one you want and off you go, with YouTube or whatever streaming the latest CX race/film of choice. So there is no actual need to purchase the films.

    Thanks, I’ll watch that with tonight’s TrainerRoad session.

    As a side issue Strava Premium does not have “most” films but the same three for the last nine months, one of the reasons Ill be cancelling.

    OK, odd, I thought that more were available after reading the FAQ here:

    I’ve subscribed to the App. Can I use that for the Tour? Yes. Sort of. If you subscribe to our app, then you’ll have access to nearly all the videos – only Nine Hammers and Elements of Style won’t be available and you’ll need to purchase those.

    I assumed that the App was Strava Premium.

    know how much the videos will cost?

    They work out at around $10 each I think, so in total about a years worth of TrainerRoad subscriptions.

    Hmmm, not looking like a good combination.

    Try switching it so your gym session is the day after the TrainerRoad session.

    If that fails then drop the leg work for a bit. Get to a point where you can manage, under normal workload/family life, 3 weeks of core and upper body gym work and trainer sessions, then start adding in the leg work again and see what happens.

    However both sessions sound hard so I’m not surprised you’re struggling to be honest.

    What’s the purpose/goal for the weight and trainer sessions?

    Sounds like they are not compatible in their current configuration.

    Thanks Rob, just purchased a copy of complete calisthenics. Been doing a lot of core work but would like to add a bit more upper body strength to the routines and that looks great.

    The Belgium race was bloody brilliant!

    Well done to Ian and Helen!

    Hope tomorrow fairs better for the U.S. ones, too much mud and rain, really WTF!

    I’ve had a couple of rides, circa 5 hours, on mine. 34t 1*10 on a 29er.

    After the initial 15 minutes of it feeling really quite odd, ( I’m old enough to remember Biopace), I settled into riding with it and found zero difference on smooth trails/fire roads, either up or down hill, and at all cadences.

    However I really like the way it seems to enable me to ke pedaling through bumpy rooty ground, the kind of awkward terrain that can slow you down in a race if you’re not completely focused.

    Definitely going to continue with it.

    Never ridden at either of those parks, but have skied at Åre and it stunning.

    Malmö and the south is the driest area, as stated Sweden is a long long country.

    Clearly the three largest cities of Stockholm, Göteborg, and Malmö offer the best employment opportunities, especially for a non Swedish speaker. Having native English is a bonus though.

    Unemployment for the younger age groups is relatively high, no idea how it compares with the UK though. Having said that the gang of people I met at Swedish classes when I moved over had no issues getting jobs despite no speaking the language.

    Getting the personal number is key though, a classic catch 22 situation. Its tricky, but no impossible, to get a job without one, but renting somewhere and setting up a bank account is somewhat frustrating.

    Look at http://www.thelocal.se for a few tips and tricks.

    I moved here ten years ago, so ask away.

    No plans to move back.

    Based just outside Göteborg.

    Pedals are not the part of XTR to have.

    I’d say shifters, chainset, and cassette are the must have XTR items, all the other bits I’d take XT.

    Either pick a plan that allows you train outside as normal, therefore the low volume one, substitute a TR session with a similar outdoor season, or forgo the outdoor ride.

    Depends on your level of commitment, there are a number of people on this thread that can be found on their turbo/rollers even in high summer….

    Think I said this a few pages back, but for me I recon that the sweet spot training plans would be suitable for just about everyone and offer 90% of the benefits of following a totally customised plan at virtually zero cost.

    I use a pair of Sennheiser Momentum.

    The large over the ear ones are outstanding, but a little too big IMO for listening whilst commuting, so I went for the smaller on the ear version.

    If you need to ask then the answers always XT.

    Great price to performance to weight ratios. Especially pedals and brakes.

    I use RX Sport for my prescription Oakley glasses. Very good service and price.

    Crosswind is the frame I have. Haven’t tried riding in them but run sub 36 for 10km in them so they stay in place well even when sweating and moving relatively quickly.

    The Sufferfest film elements of style is all about pedal smoothness, try that.

    Also perform one leg drills at a low resistance for generating that kick/push/pull/lift feeling. It’s all muscle memory so practice practice practice.

    Well so they are, thanks.

    Interestingly TrainerRoad seem to have removed their Sufferfest specific training plans now that they have updated everything.

    An average of 10 hours a week of structured training throughout the season is a huge amount, if this is done together with a good coach then I’d expect some seriously impressive results come late summer, (assuming you start now).

    So:
    * Get a coach
    * Get a training plan
    * Plan your season
    * Strengthen your core
    * Keep your bike in absolute top condition
    * Sleep/rest as much as possible
    * Eat healthily

    Nothing wrong with that graph, looks pretty good for a first attempt!

    Expect to see large gains very quickly as you get more used to taking the test and riding with/to power.

    Best bet is to try a half a dozen sessions and make an evaluation from there, if they all feel too easy then either add 10 watts to your FTP and repeat until you can’t complete the session or re-take the test.

    So to conclude, it was 10mm, and it took two people holding the cranks and another with a one meter extender to apply enough force to remove the damn things.

    Anyway now my Absolute Black oval ring is on and I’ve gone 1 * 10.

    So who’s up for this year’s Tour of Sufferlandria?

    Looks a real treat, especially the last two days!

    I’ve donated to the Davis Phinney fund and have changed my training plan to incorporate it, I’ll be using TrainerRoad but I’m not sure how long I’ll last at the recommended power outputs.

    Starts on Saturday 24th Jan:
    Elements of Style + The Long Scream – 1:10
    Blender – 1:40
    Fight Club – 1:00
    Nine Hammers – 1:00
    Angels – 1:00
    Local Hero – 1:25
    The Rookie – 1.00
    Revolver + Violator + Half is Easy – 2.25
    ISLAGIATT – 2:00

    Yes, and no. The TrainerRoad software should detect your stages PM via its own Bluetooth drivers when you download the software.

    Great timed post as I’m off there for a week with the family in the beginning of February and had planned to find a hire bike and ride for a few days. Free motion it is then. Will contact them tomorrow.
