Been combining midweek sessions on TR over the last four weeks with real distance riding outside, with a switch to more over and under type intervals, things like:
    – Apple Orchard
    – Hawks Bill
    – Lafaytte
    – Kephart

Anywhere between 45 to 75 minutes long, done twice a week off a good base, can really feel the benefit.

Thoroughly recommended for people just finishing the sweet spot work.

Today’s film of choice was the ’92 edition of Paris Roubaix. Not sure its possible to have more awesomeness in a bike race than this.

    I need 5 choices,

    Cancellara
    Eddie B H
    Kwiatkowski
    Matthews
    Cav
    All behind Kristoff

Yup gonna be a good one this year.

Really hard to look past the obvious choice of Kristoff if the weather is shite.

A friends site if you want to run it through some type of Google translate from Swedish:
    http://www.bjornfredriksson.se/p/reglage.html

Basically odd sized ring for true CX racing, but I imagine perfect for gravel grinding.

He also had issues running a 1 * set up, (using Record not the CX ones), as the BCD meant the single ring couldn’t be bigger than 40T on his Ridley.

This is gonna be good. Bookmarked for reference.

Two hard sessions back to back is perfectly fine, clearly you’re doing it now and feeling tired, but hay trainings supposed to be hard.

Rest day before and after, take it easier evey forth week or so.

If you’re serious about the TT in the summer then I’d probably cut short the Wednesday ride or replace it altogether, depending on how serious the TT was.

    Thanks, good info Junkyard.

I’ll look into the wheelchair option.

It’s not over yet, we could lose to Afghanistan, that would take the gloss off a bit.

    Genuinely funny! 😆

If someone offered me a pill that gave me 10% more watts and helped me lose a few kg

But if that pills not on the WADA banned list, (as its still in clinical trials), then its not doping, its the ultimate application of marginal gains.

No worse than than someone drinking beetroot juice…… Both are reported to give you a competitive advantage.

Not sure what to make of Millars commentary, must read the report.

I was somewhat disappointed with it/him, and I’m leaning more to the fanboy side of the fence when it comes to Millar.

Some take aways from the report.

You’re only a doper if you get caught is the standard mantra
Micro dosing EPO means you won’t glow in the morning, (therefore how stupid are the people who get caught?)
TUE’s are abused, even in the women’s peloton
Significant and quick weight loss is an issue and most likely as a result of doping

If people think this is solely related to cycling then they’re delusional.

Considering what is in the report, and what is already known, (not that different), focusing on the bikes is rather like arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Last round of the Super Prestige at Middelkerke, if only for the drainage ditch drop off/jump in the middle of course! Only in Belgium would that be seen as OK

Or to get you in the mood for this Saturday, 2014’s Strade Bianche was an excellent edition

@ 4.3W/kg first Cat is stretching it a bit IMO, but certainly that level should be competitive in 3rd, and not disgraced in 2nd.

But racecraft plays a massive part, knowing when to dig in and for how long and when to sit in and follow wheels will really increase your potential to place well.

Once hybrid cars get GIS route data they’ll be able to optimize the mixture of electrical and liquid fuel use.

Currently as the car doesn’t know the destination or length of journey it will use the battery from the start until its empty.

A typical drive cycle for a commute is town to open road to town, and back again later that day. It would be better to use the battery during the town driving and use a mixture of fuels whilst on the open road.

New Koenigsegg Regera looks nice, 1500 horsepower and a single-speed gearbox, and a 9.27-kWh capacity.

Manages 22 miles on one charge, is road legal, and half the price of their current non road legal P1.

Only 80 being made so hurry up.

Lafaytte tonight, longer than the normal mid week session at 1:17.

    Recommended.

Definitely re-take the FTP test and take a dip into one of the MTB plans.

The MTB ones are quite good, lots of 4 minute intervals at slightly less than FTP with various 10 to 30 second sprints thrown in.

Excellent for replicating climbing with technical sections, or simulating pulling turns for road riding.

With the better weather kicking in now I’ll start to recreate the weekend sessions outside and maintain two or three sessions a week on the rollers.

    First race (4th Cat crit)……(4.3 W/kg).

Think you’ll be accused of sandbagging, unless you’ve dreadful racecraft.

Best of luck with it and report back.

Love gripshift for racing, been a fan since the old x-ray ones, but the current generation are outstanding.

I just want to get the most out of the time I’ve got without being counter productive….

Nothing you seem to be doing will be counter productive, however the question is, is it the most effective? After all why spend longer on the turbo/rollers than really needed.

It sounds like your FTP should be increased if you’re not being taxed too hard by the sessions. Sweet spot training should be hard on the both the legs and the lungs.

Wow! Was following that via cyclingnews.com text feed, how did they manage to throw that away! Gotta be worse than Gilbert V the Schelk’s a few years ago.

Can’t wait to watch it in full when someone uploads it.

Love Stannard, pure class, guy’s just built for that kinda racing.

KBK tomorrow, Kristoff for the win?

Yeah I’m sure he will, but his team of 5 or so support riders plus staff might be a bit screwed.

Could put together a nice team from the guys that have retired this year, Nibbles, with Voight, Millar, Evans, Dekars in good form……

Excellent, hope to God that the UCI has all the t’s crossed and i’s dotted as this is gonna run and run in the legal system.

    What now for Nibbles?

I can average 250 watts for 20 mins on a wattbike although I have no idea where that puts me in the grand scale of things

If you’re a 50kg teenage girl then ring Dave B @ Sky, if you’re a 150kg man then by all means ring but maybe don’t expect a quick reply

I use the 8 minute test for consistency, the 20 would most likely give a better result though, however as I started with that one ill keep using it.

Planning to use the sufferfest session rubber glove on a kickr to give me something to compare it against.

Wow, that graph needed a second look, but yes, somewhere just south 100% of FTP.

    Good stuff
