Careful but the CAA is monitoring footage and actively seeking to prosecute anyone who violates the regulations regarding drone usage in the UK, get caught you’ll get fined. They’re really starting to clamp down, drones as toys will soon be a thing of the past.

We use SPOT 3’s at work to track staff when out lone working (forestry). Does really well even when we’re in thick woodland! Good wee bits of kit. Can’t remember what subscription we’ve got, but we have the cheaper live tracking feature (updates location every 10 minutes). Very handy for us as we frequently work in areas with no mobile signal.

    Joanna Newsom – Ys
Eels – Electro Shock Blues plus Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
Neutral Milk Hotel – In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Lift your Skinny Fists… (though pretty much anything by them works better as a complete piece)
    Radiohead – OK Computer
Tom Waits – Rain Dogs (if I was forced to pick just one)

I saw Floyd play at Earl’s Court in ’94. The second half of the gig was Dark side of the moon in full. It was awesome.

Old school turner Flux, there was one going on here for £200 a few days ago I think. I have one and love it.

I got a rather expensive but very nice Rapha merino beanie for wearing under a helmet. It may have been costly but it’s been worth every penny. I’ve used it for the past couple of years in everything from milder just to take the chill off days to -11C and freezing the zip on my jacket days. Superb! This one I believe:

I can’t decide if I liked it or not. Ticked all the Bond movie boxes but there was something missing that I just couldn’t quite put my finger on.

Thanks all, I have ordered a pair of the aqua zero tights, looked good for the money.

Oooh, they do look interesting. Worth a punt I reckon.

How have Endura kept going if their stuff still falls apart? Found some of their windchill tights for a decent price but I’m hesitating to click ‘buy’. I did have some DHB stuff a while back which was ok so might look at that again.

I found this article whilst looking into going 1X11:

    Single Ring Set Up[/url]

I think it’s pretty helpful, basically gone and done all the Sheldon Brown gear calculating for you!

We had a brand spanking 2.0L new one as a courtesy car earlier in the year when our Golf fell to bits. I really liked it bar one thing. The analogue clock in the middle of the dash. WTF? Looked ridiculous and really annoyed me!

I’ve got a pretty old 26″ bike with Hope Pro2 hubs, am I right in thinking the new XT 1X11 stuff is all standard fitting and will work fine? I had been running a 2X9 set up but a lot of components have worn out and are due an upgrade, going to 1X11 is quite appealing.

I had a similar dilemma and in the end chose the trail lens. Went and had a look at them on a wet day in Edinburgh and the trail lens seemed more suited to year round conditions in the UK. Ended up supplementing it with a polarized red lens for bright days and clear for night etc, etc.

Have to say the trail lens is superb but in a sort of stealth way. Initial impressions were a bit meh, it’s similar to persimmon. But it does just work really, really well. I use it a lot on and off road. Running and riding. Awesome lenses.

We had this in our house, noticed it not long after moving in, eventually identified the source as being the electricity meter in the hall. Not noticed it much recently, I’ve either got used to it or the dog’s snoring is drowning it out!

I have no idea how Scotland are going to do. Actually getting quite nervous about it. Supposedly been promising so much for such a long time would be nice if they actually delivered.

My Body is a temple – made me think of this!

Maybe look to doing something like yoga or pilates to help strengthen core and other muscles? Especially if you’ve been cycling more than running. It helps with posture and can also help to protect you from injury.

You can get free terrain data here:

    OS GB Contour Data

BUT – there are anomalies in the dataset, so some contours just abruptly stop in the middle of nowhere which can confuse some 3D software. You need to check the area you’re wanting to work with carefully. Having said that it’s still a hell of a lot of very good data.

I have Northwave Arctic’s which I’ve had for 3 years now and they’re excellent. On really, really filthy days I put overshoes over them and have very toasty feet!

wet, rooty, rocky, boggy, forest trails

That’s the conditions I think my NN’s are great in! I run UST ones at a low pressure and they’re great. UST might have a stiffer sidewall though which may make them feel less skittery.

We used to have an Activator downhill series. See who could post the best time on a mate’s Activator down some local trails. Was a riot. And quite painful…

I use the Jamie Oliver recipe which is pretty good. I keep thinking that one day I’ll build a proper pizza oven in the garden, oven is ok but doesn’t get quite hot enough or give that lovely wood fired flavour.

I found keeping my knees warm helps a lot with stopping them hurting or making noises like a rusty gate, so I wear 3/4’s or knee warmers a lot of the time. If I am in shorts the stiffness/creaks get better once they’ve warmed up. Regular yoga has helped too.

I have a steel road bike – that Ribble one – which I use as my commuter, takes guards and a rack etc, etc. It’s very nice to ride and I like it a lot but it has awful tyre clearance, 25mm is pushing it. So the thought has been going round my head that really I should get a different (still steel most likely) frame with better tyre clearance. Would open up a few more possibilities for using the bike too. But then why not get one that takes discs as commuting in Scotland in winter means discs are a good idea. And if I do that then I’d need new wheels as mine don’t take discs. So that’s me up to frame, wheels and brakes. Hmmm. Now that’s almost a whole bike…

    Wow, that escalated quickly!

I drive one regularly at work. It’s very comfy, cruises very well and can shift it when required (much to the surprise of some tailgating types). It gets taken off road as well and has been very good indeed. The boot isn’t huge (especially not with two dogs in it!) and it can be a bit thirsty but other than that it does a decent job.

Huge fuel tank. If you get a slow pump it can take what feels like forever.

One thing has bamboozled me. Why is HM Gov reducing / removing the subsidies for wind generated power, but increasing the subsidies for less’green’ energy solutions like fracking and nuclear? Absolutely beats me!

A quick look at their funders and connections should soon make it all pretty clear

Quite – that’s the reality of politicians though isn’t it. Cameron is quite happily ‘cutting all the green crap’ whilst lining his and his friends pockets.

I’ll probably keep one of the them for bright days, depends on which one sells first I suppose as there seems to be so little between them. I do fancy the Prizm trail lenses, they look good.

Trailrocs were my summer shoes! For what it’s worth the 255 does have slightly more cushioning. The big problem I had with them was the rock plate in the sole, felt it really deadened the feel and probably contributes to them feeling harsh on really hard surfaces. If you look you can still get the old Terrafly 303’s cheap, they’re a really good hard pack shoe.
