What’s with all the announcements in French?

Isn’t French the ‘offical’ language of the Olympics – blame Coubertin.

As above, really. I worked local, so used to pop home at lunchtime to take Dewey for a quick walk. We now have a dog walker 3 days a week who takes him out for an hour at some point during the day (usually lunchtime). The other 2 days we have a couple of neighbours (stay at home mums) who take him out for a walk. It’s not a cheap option as our dog walker charges £12 an hour, though we have a new neighbour who offers the same service, but she charges £17 an hour!

How about a rescue Beardie? There’s a few Bearded Collie rescue schemes run by breed clubs:

    http://www.beardedcollieclub.co.uk/rescue.php or http://www.beardedcollies.org.uk/portal/index.php?page=17

Used to have Beardie-x called Rossie dog, when I was younger. Great dogs.

Just had a fly past from 2 ‘jets’, south of Godalming. Not sure what they were, but they set quite a few car alarms off!

Can I have one, too? I’ll stick it on my desk when I start my new job at the local council offices on Monday! 🙂

Yeah, for what it’s worth, I’m the same height as you and ride a 16″ Orange ST4, which fits me fine (80mm stem). An 18″ would be too long in the top-tube for my personal preference.

Don’t discount the ST4. I’ve got the older frame style and whilst it’s not the lightest bike, it certainly doesn’t feel heavy riding it!

@TNMY: I’m just referring to how sensitive some people can be about certain trails being made public knowledge. I’m sure you know the sort …

EDIT: cheers for contributing to them

Yeah, I know what you mean. I’m a cartographer by trade, so making maps is what I do, so happy to do it! As mentioned above, most of these maps are based on ROWs, so there shouldn’t be much in there that’s contentious, even the ones around Pitch/Holmbury/Leith Hill. I’ve just looked at one of the maps (not mine) that covers Holmbury Hill and it doesn’t even follow BKB and uses the road instead 😆

They are spacemonkey – are you talking about the VCGH linky? If so, why would he be reprimanded? They are just a collection of PDFs with routes marked on them, which are freely available to download. As a member of the club and author of some of the pdfs, I’m glad they’re being used, as the mtb-side of the club is on its last legs. So, if anyone fancies joining the club to breathe some new life into it, then let me know! 😀

The link is great for XC blasts – I did one of the 20mile versions this morning up and around punchbowl. But they often miss out all the fun singletrack. They are my 2-3 hours fitness blasts. But don’t think these guys are singletrack freaks (alternatively they just don’t publicise the secret stuff!)

It’s a mixture of both! The ones I’ve created are based solely on public ROWs, so don’t include any cheeky trails that I use on rides.

Not sure on frame weight and I swapped parts over from a hardtail to build mine (XT, RS Revs, Pro2/DT 5.1 wheels) and could do with losing a few pounds, though it doesn’t feel heavy to ride, espically when climbing.

I ride a 16″ and find the fit spot on, especially the reach with a 80mm stem. Height-wise, I’m a bit shorter than you with a 30″ inside leg. Not sure if there’s much difference geometry-wise between the older and newer models.

Hi, I have been riding these trails up at Pitch Hill near Peaslake (Surrey Hills) for a while now and always get confused as to their names. Can anyone name the trails…

He doesn’t want a map, just to know their names.

The OP is talking about the downhill runs off Gibbet Hill, which start just north of the trig point. Towards the bottom (‘over the lip’) some jumps and stuff have been built, but it gets boggy done there! It’s a steep push back-up, either following the route ridden down or using the footpath that leads down from the trig point/memorial cross to the observation platform, built to view the northern tunnel works.

What about Tim Davies, who used to ride for Alpinestars? I remember him giving me some words of encouragement during a race, as he passed me doing his warm-up (I think). That was in 1991, so he made an impression!

Capt’n – ‘Political awareness’ is included in the person specification, which I have to evidence against in the application form under the additional information section. That’s it – no context as such.

I’ve got an older style ST4 and running 140mm Revs, as that’s what I had available when I built the frame up! I’ve not experienced an problems when climbing or the way the bike handles in general. As Kit said, it’s not a particularly light frame for the travel, but the suspension just seems to work and matches the sort of riding I do just fine.
