Hi nxb1,

VCGH used to have a very active MTB side (I used to be a ride leader), but a lot of the regulars stopped, for one reason or another, so it’s less active these days. There’s still a small group who organise rides on Sunday mornings from Godalming, but it’s mainly via their facebook page(not the VCGH facebook page!). I suggest you contact Jules or Roland, as they are the main people who organise the rides these days. There’s also some route maps that you can download from the website, if you fancy exploring by yourself.

There also Three Counties MTB group.

Have you looked at Route Buddy? They have Harvey and OS maps for sale, though not sure how prices compare to other mapping products.

You could use Phonegap and build your app using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In true STW style, I have no experience of using it!

Yeah, Merry Harriers camp site is a field across the road from the pub and next to their car park. It’s not very large, but there’s usually a few tents pitched and the odd camper van. You have to use the pub for toilets/showers, but there’s 24hr access.

+1 for the Merry Harriers. Good food, good beer and a regular stop off for many mtb groups. Not sure when your visiting, but it’s the ‘new’ owners 5th anniversary on the 20th July, so they’re having a big party, so it’s likely to be busy then.

Have a look at Outside Maps iOS app, which includes various OS layers and OSM.

I’ve always found East Steet Cycles really helpful and had no problems with their quality of work. Likewise, Cycleworks in Guildford.

My old boss used to commute along the canal, though he used to complain about the dogs/walkers, as it does get narrow in places. The other option is along the bridleway from Catteshall side (near Tannachie on the map), past the sewage works to Shalford and pick-up the NCN path into Guildford.

Hi, looks interesting and I’ve never ridden in the area before. Can’t see any mention of the start times, though? (I’d be travelling over from Surrey, so a bit of a drive). Presume there’s still entry on the day, or is it nearly full?

    Cheers

Just downloaded it and works for me! Presume you’ve selected the OS OpenSpace base layer from the available base maps? If not, click the icon top right and it’ll give you a list, though you may have to remove the compass display, if you’ve got that switched on.

When we got our dog, the breeder advised us to do about 5mins per month of age, which doesn’t sound much, but they get plenty of exercise just playing etc when young. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/395

Good luck Cheesybeanz. We used to show our Wheaten and qualified for Crufts a few times, more by luck than anything else! Dewey wasn’t really a show dog though, as he didn’t like the hanging around, or the grooming and just wanted to sniff the other dogs in the ring! Was that picture taken at the last club championship show? We showed Dewey there in Vintage dog (he’s 11 yo) and he got 2nd, which was a surprise.

    From the RNID website:

If you have difficulty making voice calls, you can now contact the emergency services by a text message from your mobile phone. EmergencySMS is part of the standard 999 service, designed specifically for people with hearing loss or difficulty with speech.

When we go on long walks with our dog, we use a collapsable water bowl like this which will easily fit in a camelbak:

I wouldn’t bother, the police pretty much do what they want with little or no consequences IMO

I used to work for a police force and was often asked to identify police vehicles from GPS logs for investigations into poor driving standards reported by the general public. So they did look into them, not sure about the consequences though!

We’re out all day, but we have a dog walker to come round and take Dewey out for an hour, which also means he gets to socialise with other dogs, as well. Ain’t a cheap option, though!

@cheesybeanz – yeah, nice to see another one. Dewey’s just turned 11, but I remember when he was the same age young as yours as he was a real handful! Calmed down a bit now, though.

Mike – if there’s a VCGH ride you would like to join, then it’s best to email the ride leader to let them know you’re coming along. Alternatively, email membership@vcgh.co.uk and let them know you’re interested in joining one of the road rides/club and they’ll give you the low-down.

I would have thought West Drayton MTB would be your best bet? I used to ride with VCGH, but the MTB side of things has been quiet the last few years, though you’d have plenty of company for road training rides.
