Dandax…. Yeah, its hidden behind the front wall with a grass roof, and doors are hidden by bins. We live on a busy, well lit road. Its not been touched for 2 years. Just a bit spooked

    Hello.
I was going to say Tignes, as its got free bike lifts, and lots of free activites to do if you are not biking, such as pedalos, sailing, remote control cars, swim pool etc… But i thin 2nd september it may be closed.

Not too many bikers around yet (compared to Morzine)

That late in the season, I think the Funicular in les arcs will be running still… I think… If you stay in Bourg St Maurice, there is plenty to do/not do! and is a proper french town…

Went riding at haldon after work. Packed bike up and went to parents (where I was then living) didn’t take bike out. Went to work next day, then off to haldon on way home… Couldn’t find front wheel anywhere… Must have left it on the hill by my car the previous day… :(

From my experience (Horse riders on Bridlepaths saying that I shouldnt cycle there) I was able to tell them about the Countryside act 1968, which allows cyclists on bridlepaths. They didn’t know this, and almost thanked me for clearing it up for them!

I like how I can work out your trail names to our trail names by description. I likr too how they are all completely diferent bar rat run (which used to have a sign ssaying rat run at the start) I am luckyeenough to know most of the people who have built the trails. The traditional haldon naming method is name it after something you find on the trail… Tipi.. Teapot… Harrassment (herris fence panel) bumwash(bidet was found) jerry can.. Canny jerry… Dead dog down… Steak and chips etc

    Hello!

    ‘Double header’
is one of the best. Good warm up for length and techical ability for le Varda. Its a footpath from the road between Arc 2000 and Arc 1800. Heading from Arc 1800 up, its left after the slag heap. Go on straight, other then turning left in the meadow (Down a singletrack meadow). No-one knows where straight on goes… no one. Then from there follow bike tracks, your nose, and orange dots. Lots of switch backs, the biggest rock garden ever, fast flowy sections.
You can follow the signs for ‘les deux tetes’

    ‘1600’
the run we called ‘1600’ goes from of all places Arc 1600. Cycle west trhough 1600 and you find the skill(z?) area with see saws.. go to the end of this, and the road joins a bigger road at a sharp angle, turn sharply right (towards bourg), then the next sharp left (which has a 3 Tonne maximum sign). From this junction is the entrance to ‘1600’ and just follow your nose to valley floor.

    Black (and white) 8
Black 8 is marked on the trail map.
White 8 goes off from this, turning right at a fork where the black eight requires a pedal over a big lump. It brings you to the hydro pipes, which you squeese under.

Grange Hill. (les granges on le map)
Accessed from top of the Trans arc.. Follow the ridge straight ahead, then drop right at the col. Follow fire track for ages down, watching the lectric fences. The shallow terrain comes to an end, and the fire road splits, left and right.. Take right, climb up slightly, then take a left single track path at about 11’o’clock to the direction of the fire track. If you are still on the fire track and it has turned more then 90 degree. You have gone too far. Follow single track and your nose down. Ends up in a village. You can take the straight path down, rather then the road zig zags… quite good fun!.. End up at the lobster pot lift in Peisy. (below the big cable car) Slight uphil to this.

    Zig and Zag.
    Accessed from the Vallandry Village.
Follow main road through, and you will see a large building which has lots of fire damage, which is currently being rebuilt… take the path left of this (with building to right) then follow route down. Lots of choices, sometimes meet up…. You should end up at a chapel thing, with a posh water trough. Either turn right and follow a dry leat contouring towards bourg, and its a 20min cycle slowly down, with a bit of up back to bourg. Or if you check train times, you can turn left at the chapel, then turn right onto an offroad track, and follow your nose to Landry station.

There are runs off the bottom of 1800, which end up further down the valley, but still easy cyclable back.. Look for orange dots on the trail.. these are the tried and tested downhill friendly routes. Also, of red7 there are variations you can do..

    Tadah!

agentdagnamit: There are busses that leave from the left of the Funicular. I think they run to link with the the hourly funicular arrival. (Not half hourly) You can pop your bikes on the back, and up to 2000. It gets you a few more runs, and makes it easier to cycle to the top of le varda.. (The Varet Gondola makes this much easier however!) Double header can be reached this way, or from the top of the Cashette. Follow signs for ‘les deux tetes’

La Thuile is brilliant and well worth a visit, not just for the ice cream.

Below Les arc 1600 and 1800 there are many runs which get you down to the Funicular… Pretty much follow your nose! There is the marked black 8, from this you can get to the unmarked White 8, where you squeese under the hydro pipes.

All in all, at hell of a lot of riding with two lifts!

Hello… yes just got back. Everything bar the funicular and the cashette chair from 1600 are closed on sat. Those two lifts.. plus busses to 2000 still give access to many marked trails.. and many un marked trails. Such as double header and 1600 .

I have a pair of old boxxers on the front… currently with no oil in them.. I have the original fifth element shock on the back… Wheels, have some easton havocs front and rear that both need new bearings, and ones a bit of an oval… Bottom bracket is stiff.. headset has ceased…

I know some superstar wheels… new bearings in the headset and maybe some new forks, or repaired boxxers will come to at least £400 to fix a bike, that not quite what I want!

i will look around however.. I could just respray the frame… then i have a new bike!

Tivi has cove woods towards Bampton… there are some sneaky trails in there and plenty of devon sunken lanes to link together a good XC route.. Also combe Sydnum (sp?) Is not to far away for DH fun.

To be Honest. anywhere near mid devon is pretty good. East Dartmoor, Haldon, Woodbury, Exmoor, Tavi woods, Quantocks, Mendips, All less then an hour away.

Panoramic is a great trail! There are a few good vids of it on you tube. There is also a good trail that I haven’t done which goes down all the way to the bottom of the swiss valley floor. Apparently its amazing… but you need to get the train back!
