Good shout Rich! I’ll try that today, I don’t think it will sort it long term as it’s quite badly torn but might get us through the next week or so till we can get the part.

This is gonna sound pathetic but which Tesla app is it.  I have checked and see various apps and i definately dont want to be signing up for one i dont need.  I do not have a Tesla but want to use their network for my new EV

    “Tesla”
Though I don’t think it’s necessary, all the public superchargers we have used just take card payments, and can be found on Zapmap, filtered by public v Tesla only.

    Yup, bonkers.

There’s 2 parts to the seal, one of those parts is available on its own, the other isn’t so you have to buy both, at twice the price of an individual part!

Hoping independent installer can source more cheaply, they’re already £100 less for labour.

Weird, our trusty Miele broke at the seal yesterday. It’s had a good stint and suspect user  but £170 for the part and £170 fitting is eye watering!

Miele insist on the phone it isn’t user replaceable, I’ve looked at a few videos online and it looks pretty tricky with the Miele and needs the whole front off. Reckon I could do it but chances of issues are high and I need a call out anyway and more time without a machine so reckon I’ll go for it with a 3rd party repairer for a fraction of the Miele cost.

Is the power smoothing (or lack of) still an issue in ERG mode on the V2 Atom? Everything I’ve ready suggests it is but seems hard to believe not sorted yet, and it’s about the only thing holding me back?

Our Atom went back under the 30 day money back guarantee as it was an issue for us, or more accurately my wife who just wanted an easy riding experience. I don’t use ERG mode much but certainly found it not brilliant when trying to diagnose the problem. Looking at the software updates on the wattbike site, nothing has changed since.
Need to remember a Kickr does have very aggressive power smoothing, too much for some, so nothing will compare to that, which is what we came off and went back to.

If they still do the 30 day trial thing it’s an easy way to try it for yourself.

Why a small engine? A parking fee? how does that work? Doesn’t seem like the best primary consideration for buying a car

There’s a city centre parking permit where we are, the permit cost is based on engine size & CO2 output and ramps up quite rapidly as engine size increases.

To give you an idea, that Octavia would be £300 a year for a permit, a small 1l Aygo would be about £40.

How occasional is the business use, and can’t the company pay?

Probably couple of times a month. Council employed social worker getting a car paid for, nae chance.

City car club is a possibility but the availability round us is pretty crap, and the risk of missing scheduled meetings because you end up trekking round looking for one seems pretty high.

Oh yeah, add ULEZ compliant to the list because we’re central Edinburgh.

Sadly bowed out and swapped entry to Enjoyro Evo the next day as a summer of illness and complete lack of riding makes me less than enthused than I’d like about a hard day in the saddle, pootle round Enjoyro will be much more fun.
Always a good day so sure it will be fun, though would agree with the slightly underwhelming course comments. If you’ve never/rarely ride GT you’ll enjoy much more though.

This thread gave me the fear, since I picked up an EV for the first time yesterday.

Not CPS (got that to come) but first charging experience could not have been easier. Found a charge point on the Octopus app, plugged it in, pressed charge on the app and away it went. Whole experience was easier than filling a tank of fuel. Let’s see if it was beginners luck or if the Octoverse app is just awesome.

Left our 10 year old a couple of times while nipping to the shops nearby or similar errands, no more than 20 minutes at a time. Not sure I’d leave him to go for a run or something that felt like going out to enjoy myself while leaving him at home. Not really thought about when I’d be happy with that, 12 or 13 maybe?

Just had a fortnight in a holiday home with one. Was pleasantly surprised by it, very easy to use, waaay quicker and easier to smoke/add smoke flavour than faffing with a BBQ or smoker. Grill wasn’t quite as hot to blitz a steak as I’d like but otherwise all good. Big cote de bouef on the grill plate but with some smoke on the side was almost as good as I’ve done on the Weber at home and much easier.

Just found a Throttle & Vanquish in size M!

It’s just the orange one, I thought the seat mast was medium/small kinda size, but couldn’t see a size in the listing.

Yeah that one, sorry forgot link. It’s a Large. There’s an XL on Facebook marketplace and Throttle L on Ebay too, nothing smaller yet !

Raced to a bronze at loch ore SXC I have you know

Clearly a versatile bike since I hear it was the antithesis of downcountry terrain!

There is actually what looks like a small or medium Vanquish on eBay just now

Found this one which is a large, if there’s another one send me a link as my searching skills are clearly failing me!

The most important thing is that he’s having fun, plenty of time in the future to worry about all the other stuff

Absolutely! Not sure anything I’ve said suggests otherwise, simply wondering what the best option is at a reasonable price, and not wanting to get into the silly arms race of expensive machinery that shows up at many kids races.

Maisey at the club has a S Scandal. Sandie has a S Transmitter. We have a M Pinnacle Iroko that I built as a mullet last year which is super nice. R could have a demo of all 3 I’m sure. Ive run my Scandal with 120mm forks and its grand, drops the front end a bit and as for a “Non compliant” rear end…. I suspect a 50kg kid really isn’t going to notice either way.

Great ! We won’t be around for a few weeks due to a busy racing month but will try next time we’re there, though geo suggests S might be a bit wee.

+1 on wheels and tyres being more important than a couple of hundred grammes in a frame.
Same with fork – a better functioning for a light rider over saving a few grammes.

100%, but if options exist (which it seems they do) there’s no real reason to pick something half a kg heavier if spec/angles/price are otherwise similar.

The base spec (new) Orbea Laufey with a light set of wheels chucked on?

    No Downshift deal?!

Know any customers trying to shift and old smaller Vanquish?

Am I the only one thinking that a 10yo on a 29er is a bit big, and that might be why you can’t find one?

Well no, I thought that but he’s actually beyond the 27.5″ size in most options that have wheel specific sizing (Trek Marlin etc.), he’s got nearly 15cm on your kid despite being a year younger, and has comfortably been on 27.5 for 2 years now, I’m also looking for something later in the summer when he’ll be 5+cm taller but if I need to watch for 2nd hand then I need to be looking now. Though if he wasn’t racing XC I’d be looking at 27.5 no question.

As for angles, it’s not vicarious it’s mainly sticking with what he’s got, which is a slack, aggressive, light HUP Enduro which is unfortunately discontinued so I’m trying to find nearest equivalent.

Is 2.3kg heavy?  I wouldn’t have said so, particularly for a hardcore hardtail.

Not for a hardcore hardtail for an adult, but that’s not what I’m looking for.

    tenacious_doug

Is Marley frame not a bit portly? Anyone got the weight? I seem to have around 2.3kg in my mind.

    tenacious_doug

If he fits the bird 29, that would be a great option

Definitely the front runner so far, and raw finish shaves off a bit extra weight. Perhaps a bit slack for climbing but nothing a reverse angleset wouldn’t fix. He should fit onto the medium by end summer I reckon.

On One Scandal? Only in stock in S and XL, but £199, and claims 2kg.

Yeah, as above, I thought it looked good on paper but high front end and rigid back end is mentioned in a few reviews, which is not a great combination for a smaller, lighter rider. Slammed front end and something more compliant is better.

    tenacious_doug

That’s your problem though, isn’t it? Any similar priced frame to these will be a similar weight unless it’s a proper XC bike, which won’t like jump spots or off piste.

Maybe, that’s why I came here to ask. All 3 frames mentioned in my initial post tick the boxes. The Bird & Podsol do too so I’ve already doubled my range of options from the feedback here :)

Scout is a good half kg heavier than any of the above I believe so is definitely out.

Age 10, wanting to do a bit of XC and enduro-y stuff?

I guess you’d want an XS or S size aluminum hardtail frame, with 27.5 wheels?

I think he’s probably ready to make the jump to 29, to remain competitive in XC he’s probably going to have to. I’d been pretty adamant on staying on 27.5 for the next one but seeing what the others are on at races it’s probably time to move. He’s very tall for his age and is allowed to occasionally borrow his mum’s full sus for any more technical enduros he racws, so I think the bigger wheels will be fine.

Scout and Orange are too portly to be competitive in XC I think.

On One Scandal, full bike and modify from there. Around 65.5deg head angle.

I had looked at it and discounted, reviews suggest high front end and harsh rear end. For a small light rider this is not a great setup.

Bird Zero29? £410. Light frame – not sure your size need – woudl a medium work?

Interesting shout, I’d discounted it as I thought it was weighter than it is but looks ok actually, so may well be an option.

any warranties are worthless. Nothing to do with the retailer (beyond statutory rights).

This is just playing with terminology.

While yes a “warranty” is with the manufacturer, there’s a hell of a lot of protection afforded by the consumer rights act that the shops will still be on the hook for, and can’t hide behind the “it’s a warranty so you need to take it up with the manufacturer” excuse.

Resurrecting this rather than a new thread, as cheap frames are back on the Ebay shop!

Does anyone know the approx weight of the Mbop 275 frames?

what about the new hup hardtail. Gets 29 wheels in the small but not smallest size.

29″ only and a bit steeper than the old one, but it’s a possible if smaller wheels work (hence the original post). The plan all along was just to move him to next size up from his current HUP which is perfect, had I known they were discontinuing it I’d have bought one of the old frames last year and stored it. If you know of anyone with a 2nd hand 17″ going in the next few months, let me know!

    tenacious_doug

The 27.5 bikes should be the cheaper used options though?

Yeah, keeping an eye out but for what I want but the older 27.5 stuff is either nice and light but steep geo, or nice geometry but an overly heavy frame for a younger rider.

Of course his solution is a XC race bike and an Enduro bike, but I reckon a more progressive new school XC frame should be able to do both until he’s a teenager! Ideal is the next size up in the HUP hardtail he currently has which does exactly what we want, but is now discontinued and no sign of any 2nd hand.

Thanks all for the thoughts. I’ll give Sisaltech a call as they were very helpful during my failed attempts to do anything to the flat roof section. I remain a bit unsure about the moth issues with a lot of wool based stuff, appreciate most of it is treated in some way but you don’t have to go too far into the various heritage building groups to find various infestations. So maybe the Diall plastic stuff is the way to go (if it’s good enough for trail_rat that’s a good enough endorsement for me).

Thankfully it should be a fairly clean and easy job other than the exceptionally tight space. Certainly don’t have the hours in my week to be taking days to remove and clean out old stuff so I’d be getting someone in if it was that long!

Absolutely nothing in our “area” of Edinburgh at under £315k. If you stretch the area a bit you get this…. https://espc.com/property/135-1-lauriston-place-edinburgh-eh3-9jn/36213137?sid=754538

    The answer is, it depends.
You’ll need to run the quotes for your circumstances and compare, there’s no hard and fast rule on which is cheaper. I’ve always found separate policy to be WAY more expensive, but as others here have stated, they have not found that to be the case.

let you know if there are any stock faults with that tv that cause that fault.

    Thanks!

Samsung UE43AU7100 (2021) HDR 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, 43 inch with TVPlus, Black

Have gone back to retailer so will see what they say. Also noticed this morning when getting some more photos that the area on the screen previously showing “damage” is now clear, it’s now showing halfway across the other side of the screen which I can’t understand. Surely if this was impact damage the impacted part can’t suddenly be fine and the damage move elsewhere??

Is it definitely a crack rather than a single line of pixels lighting up? It can look pretty similar on a 4k screen as the pixels are so tiny.

I’m not really sure how to tell the difference given it’s under the glass, any tips?

You’ve got kids and you think this happened by itself?

I’m willing to be wrong, but they are generally pretty terrible liars and adamant they didn’t touch it. Also don’t see how it could have been done by them on the inside of the TV without there being a mark anywhere on the outside of it??

Iirc Samsung had an issue with screens cracking a year or two ago

Interesting, this is the sort of intel I was looking for. I’ll fish around to see if I can find anything more about those issues

That said I’m thinking it’s probably not a hugely expensive repair so I might be inclined to invest in neighbourly relations

As above, total is about £6k, which is a lot to invest in neighbourly relations! But for smaller sum I’d definitely be of the same view.

As an aside how are the chimneys on the end houses set up? Do the share as 50:50 because all the flies terminate between houses or are their costs 100% on the outer chimney and 1:7 on the inner?

No idea, and don’t know any of the end terraces well enough that I could ask. They do have stacks on the gable end though so assuming their deeds are silent then the same principles should apply, yes, 6/6 on outer and 1/7 of inner.
