Don’t know your family’s financial situation but why not pay her grocery, council tax and fuel bills between the family – they can’t be that much. Surely the cost will be less than what you’d lose on the equity release scheme.

Why is anybody carrying the torch? – seems like a complete waste of time to me and why would anybody go and watch it?

The property market bubble hasn’t fully deflated yet and the valuer knows this. He’s looking into the future to protect the buyer and lender from negative equity.

I thought that most pension ‘products’ were only available through an IFA? I’d be genuinely interested to hear if that’s not the case.

That’s what IFAs want you to believe – you can set up a SIPP with plenty of providers – Hargreaves Lansdown, Fidelity plus plenty of others

I wouldn’t bother with an IFA for such a small amount – most of it will probably disappear in their charges. Why not transfer it to a SIPP and manage it yourself – it doesn’t matter that you don’t know anything about managing money nor do the so called professionals! It’s much more fun and the best way to learn is by having a go yourself.

pay your self minimum wage and get the rest almost tax free

Does this really seem very likely?

My brother had 2 women working for him – one was hard working other was lazy nine to fiver. The hard worker went on maternity leave and when she came back asked to work part time – 3 days a week – no problem he said. Lazy woman went on maternity leave and when she came back asked to go part time as well – he said no and she ended up leaving which is exactly what he wanted. Moral of the story is maternity leave isn’t a problem for good workers – just the ones they want to get rid of anyway.

Current UK inflation rate is 2.8%

As measured by the Government – does anybody seriously believe this figure? Real inflation is at least double this.

Talking of Arthur Lowe – I’ve been searching unsuccessfully for a recording of him stuck in a Cable car somewhere in Europe having a conversation with a German – very funny. Anybody know where I can download a copy?

Well the pageant wasn’t something to be proud of – I went and you couldn’t see a thing. The crowds were 20-30 deep and unless you where in the first few rows in was hopeless. I’m 6’2” and saw nothing – felt sorriest for the kids – they had no chance. Loads of people wandering around like lost souls trying to find somewhere with a good view. I’d estimate 75% of the people there barely saw the royal barge let alone the queen.

Cheer up Republicans we may have something to celebrate after all – the weather forecast for London on Sunday is a total washout. With a bit of luck the royal barge will be swamped and sink without a trace.

If we had something worth celebrating it would be worth the cost. What about Republic day – the day we became citizens not subjects and got rid the royal family.

£25 million in memorabilia even if you think it was tat it came in.

The royals cost £38 million in upkeep per year. 62p per tax payer.
But the estates bring in £226 million in surplus income.

The royal wedding and jubilee bank holidays cost £6bn each – I think there might be a deficit

Memorabilia sales for the Royal Wedding alone where in excess of £25 million. Wouldn’t have got that without the royals.

Not sure if you’re being ironic but if not:

£25 million worth of tat – I think we could of done without it.

the amount of Americans (and others) that love the monarchy and come over here mainly due to our heritage is incredible and the commercial spin offs are vast

Do you actually have any proof of this? Plenty of Americans (and many other nationalities) also go to France, Italy and Greece and they don’t have any royal families. Tourists come to see the heritage – not the royals.

royalty – they do bring a lot of money in for the country

Are you sure about this – how exactly?

Is there any advantage in going with the ones selling the property we are interested in because it may aid in our pursuit of our chosen next house.

Just gives them more scope to spin you a pack of lies to keep you sweet

Forget getting an electrician in – there is really much to electrics and the best way to learn is have a go yourself. Sounds like you need 2 new double switches with a 1 way switch and a 2 way switch. The 2 way switches to replace the dimmers and the 1 way switch for the others. When you unscrew the current switches take a note of the current set up – draw a picture and label the wires (COM/L1/L2) as you disconnect them and then just put them back the same way on the new switches. Oh yes – disconnect the circuit first.

Sea swimming is much easier than pool swimming as you’re more buoyant – especially in a wet suit. You’ll be surprised how easy it is and how much faster you go than in the pool.
