Based on the nearest motorways to me I’d say the acceptable distance is at least a mile probably more, at a closing speed not exceeding 0.13mph.

    🙂

I use a rough 15second rule for passing multiple groups of vehicles. My feeling is less than that from starting to pull in to starting to pull out is a waste of time and can make you look unpredictable.

Yeah, I use a little more – 30 secs but obviously, as you wrote above, it’s really a conditional thing – if a herd of traffic is approaching fast behind in lane two and three and there’s space for me to tuck in, lift off and let it pass I will.

    ring any bells folks.

Weird post but…no. In the thirty odd years I’ve been involved in stoves and in the twenty years I’ve used one myself I’ve only known of one person to burn rubbish (a pair of old trainers, the utter ****) or damp wood.

    Obviously you’ve had different experiences.

But look ahead and stay out if there’s more traffic.

I know you have form for this middle lane thing but…how far ahead are we talking here?

Interesting that many of the folks from the South don’t perceive themselves as having any accent at all.

    You really do.

Agreed, but it covers such a wide area that it becomes difficult to pinpoint exactly where in the south you hail from.

Stainless steel Bialetti mokka makes a much nicer brew than the aluminium one.
    Please explain…

That was kind of the point I was trying to make above. I assume the materials have a diffent heating properties that are enough to vary the temperature the water achieves and how long. But in reality, **** knows.

    mocha pot

Heh. Despite appearances it has nowt to do with chocolate unless that can sometimes mean illiterate.

    New potatoes in flour?

Raw potatoes would’ve been better but yeah, LOLZ reading that. 🙂

As Yak, really – southern nothingness. Even the little bit of Berkshire R has gone nowadays.

Can’t stand Geordie, it’s far too clipped and harsh. It also makes the speaker sound dim.

    🙂 Harsh

I’m easy, though I find some hard to grasp – thick Cornish, for example. But in general it’s what folk are saying that’ll get to me before any accent.

I would encourage everyone here to recognise that we all have opportunities to be good people evey day; to realise that small things make a big difference and that these small things are everywhere if we only take the time to look for them.

    Love it.

Through some sort of work program my partner had good results from the Dale Carnegie stuff. A few of her colleagues had results/improvement, too.

Edit : It’s a bit business orientated, as I understand it, but as above, a few of them got some out of work benefits. I guess it’s how you apply what you learn.

Indeed. It’s like he did the whole Jannah thing in reverse…

The neck looks to be quite thin so could be sliced horizontally to give a pre-shaped burger type of thing that fits in a bap quite nicely.

    I would’ve thought…

Has anyone mentioned those two kids that almost had their faces ripped off as he whizzed past.

    Shocking

Edit : D’ya know – I actually feel quite dirty having used a popular STW meme.

Also try taking your shoes off and lifting with socks

Heh. I first read that as using your socks in place of the paper towels technique.

But yeah, I lifted barefoot for quite a while but stopped when the squat got heavy. I use a shoe with a firm base now.

I don’t know of any Moderator ever, out or anon, who has abused their privs to win an argument or shut down criticism. Not least because if they did they’d get mauled by the rest of the team.

That’s good to read. And I guess we all know that when it comes down to it, which is why I felt safe telling Drac to go **** himself the other day*…

*I didn’t, really. I felt kinda mean. Which is why I self modded.

Weird. I’ll have to give that a try sometime. I take it you were using chalk as well…?

Personally, I was feeling a bit beat up and generally knackered and a few twitches were starting up so I knocked it on the head for the last three weeks. **** me, did it hurt today. Reduced the weight quite a bit and only knocked out two sets of my regular exercises.

Probably fall onto the crapper in the morning…

I had someone have a pop at me a couple of days ago which would’ve earned them a warning / short ban under other circumstances, I let it slide rather than be accused of an abuse of power / privilege.

Hang on – isn’t that virtue signalling or something. I jest, if you can blow your own trumpet you bloody well should, IYAM.

    I reckon Sandwich is a mod. Dunno why… 🙂

I kinda like Cougar’s second attempt. It’s like Badger’s in some sort of faceless Tardis and turned up cos it’s a PS thread.

    Some other superb work, too.

I used to wolf it down. now I chew a lot more and take my time.

Me, too, though I can still forget and just go ballistic on something like a block of cheese and a large bag of crisps, or the apple crumble pie I made a few days ago – meant to eat a small spoonful but polished off three slices.

Excellent work from AlanF and Selkirkbear.

And I wasn’t suggesting putting in an egg BTW – just that I’d read about it.

Where is the stick now? Back in the kindling pile? Or is it a special bike balancing stick, being saved until next time?

It probably snapped shortly after the pic was taken, what with all that shit on the poor thing…

Temps around 100c bring out bitter/burnt flavours that you don’t get if the water is a little cooler.

My personal experience echoes this. I’m not sure of the temperature but I put my two mocha pots side by side with the same coffee and tap water. The aluminium one, as usual, produced the slightly burnt flavour (which I happen to enjoy) but the stainless, weird-shaped jobbie produces a lovely, almost sweet beverage which takes a lot less sugar to bring up to taste.

A few months back I stumbled across some web page suggesting a quick rad leak fix is to drop in a few eggs.

Perhaps that’s what that shit is – aluminium ‘n egg …

But there is precedent here… It was ever thus

That’s a piss poor excuse for the “sky fairy” stuff. It’s really quite obvious it’s meant to wind up those that believe in a god. Mikewsmith, for example, uses it to ridicule (and, I suspect, garner a few laughs) but you can find him shouting “Injustice, injustice!” whenever a racism thread pops up.

It’s double standard central, this place. Such hypocrisy and lack of self awareness from what can appear, at times, to be a bunch of reasonably educated and balanced folk.

I guess we all have our foibles…

Philips White Vision in mine for the last 18 months. Again, much better than whatever was in there when I bought it and the light is slightly whiter. Not blue like some of those weird things you see driving towards you but a nice temperature – around 4200k.

I like ’em so far. Noticeable difference when fitted but who knows when the old bulbs were last changed.

I believe that we sit around the table as equals.

I’d like to believe that but there’s evidence on this forum proving that simply isn’t the case.

You might treat others as equal but a lot of folk don’t.

My personal view is the fact the various races have their own strengths and weaknesses is one of the main things that has led to the world being so brilliantly diverse.

    Wholeheartedly agree.
