20 hours on a charge. What if you race 24 hours solo? I’ll stick to Di2. Last loads longer between charges

It’s interesting for 5 minutes, and then it’s just another number on your screen. I can’t for the life of me think how you’d train with power on a mtb anyway,

I agree that it’s not as useful as on a road bike but I find that having IF displayed helps me not to go off too hard on long rides during training. I only tend to race solo 24 hour races.

I’ve got a sram and a raceface. Tracking was excellent and delivery pretty quick. I was waiting for raceface to become available and they kept me in the loop. I can’t fault the service or the product. I’ve power matched it to my elite direto and it’s within a couple of watts.

Pedal power meters seem too exposed for me on an mtb….and too expensive!!!. I have a couple of Chinese sigeyi chainring PM’s. They have run all thru winter and have been excellent. £300 each.

But you’ll find others who will post a pic of a snapped helmet with ‘definitely saved my life’

That would be me then. I crashed hard and fast at 30mph on the trail. My helmet took a blow on the left hand side and snapped on the right between the vents. I assume that was the impact transferring across the helmet and not my skull?. I never noticed it had crushed. It wasn’t a MIPS helmet(661 Recon). Are roadie helmet MIPS.
I lost my peripheral vision and but had all my faculties. Trip to A&E and a quick check up. Short term some whiplash and bruising. Long term nothing but it was a one off. Wouldn’t like to think I took many hits like.
It’s good that it’s been brought to the fore in lots of sports and some joined up thinking would be good. Just watched a piece on BBC news about Gordon McQueen and Ex England international Dave Watson who both have dementia possibly linked to repeated heading of the ball.
Is anyone surprised the UCI are slow to act. Decision like that need to be taken out of team docs hands.

I’ve used Coke a few times in a shallow tub and sit the bb in it. I’ve also had some success with plumbers freeze spray. Never had to resort to cutting the frame in half though!!.

Afternoon. Any reaction to the Trainer Road announcement. Adaptive training.

    link here: https://www.trainerroad.com/adaptive-training/

I’m currently nearing end of Build Me Up plan on zwift so need a new focus. This looks very interesting. As an older rider I find the training load can build up fatique a lot more than it used to. Hoping this new trainer road might adapt around that? Its in beta and i dont subscribe atm though.

    Any thoughts.

So just received my Renogy boot dryer. Very good and I like the various timer modes. I made a dryer very much like the pic that yetidave put on above out of a old kitchen drawer which uses a travel hairdryer, it works really well but its not very portable. Does anybody want it…foc including the hairdryer. I’m not wanting to post but if you are in Wakefield/South Yorkshire let me know. I can take some pics when I get home.

I was lucky enough to buy my dream car a few years ago. Audi quattro turbo 1988. It didnt disappoint. Nearly bought a Lancia Delta Intergrale when I sold it but went for a motorhome instead. I’m toying with idea of getting a Mark 1 Toyota MR2. Had one back in the day, great little car.

    Money no object?. This:

Just be aware that if they do get water in they take ages to dry out. Looks like it might not be a problem but like others have said I use gaiters ( grip grab) to stop water.

Had mine yesterday (Oxford Astra) after my wife phoned me and said they had spares from people who hadn’t turned up. Late on Saturday afternoon so no time to be phoning people to come in so husbands and partners of the staff ( she works in a GP’s surgery ) were contacted so as not to waste them. Felt ok yesterday and have done a workout today but arm is sore to touch and I’m freezing cold and a aching legs ( the workout wasn’t too strenuous)now and can’t seem to get warm. Sure it will pass pretty quickly. For reference I’m 54y.o

Gutted. Great weekend. Wasn’t holding out much hope as we normally do a few comedy gigs too and they are normally announced by now. Sad times.

In theory you could tune 12 spokes on a wheel to an octave of notes. In fact surprised nobody has done it (they probably have but I can’t be bothered to search)

I seem to remember there was an app which used the ‘note’ of a spoke to work out the tension.?

Just read the whole thread as we are thinking of getting a dog. We have held off for a few years as we couldn’t commit the time and there was no way we would leave one for any amount time on its own. I can take to work and as I only work alternate weeks will have time to spend walking, and hopefully riding with it. My wife has cut her hours and I cant see the dog been left on its own at all. So……anyone got an Australian Kelpie, basically an Aussie sheep/cattle herding dog.

Have you tried slik graphics. Checking the website they still do them. I got 2 pairs 1 for sram and 1 for race face. They are thick a bit like heli tape. The race face aren’t fitted. I’ll get calipers out and measure thickness.

Have a read of this. I rode 1 ascent with him as did a couple more Team JMC riders. The guy is unbelievably fit.

Just got some Northwave Himalayas. Can’t yet vouch for their waterproofing yet but they are the warmest boots I’ve ever had. Ridden in sub zero for a couple of hours with some thinnish merino wool socks and never noticed my feet. Might be a bit extreme as they are more like ‘fat bike’ boots in a 45nrth kind of way. I have some Shimano MW7’s which i really like but was starting to suffer when they got wet. They take ages to dry out. I sized up on the Northwaves and they have lots of wiggle room in the toe box but feel nice and fitted.

I got some of these around Black Friday. I’m a 43 ( size 9 ish) normally. I have some Shimano mw7’s in a 44 which are a nice fit but i’m really suffering with cold feet as I get older and they don’t keep my feet warm over rides of 3/4 hours and thought the Das Boot looked promising. I got size 44 but they were far too narrow in the toe box. My feet aren’t silly wide but they felt like my older shimano boots which were similarly pointy. I ended up with some Northwave Himalayas from Deporvillage. Might be overkill as they are more like a Wolvhammer style ‘fat bike’ boot but they are similar weight to Das Boot but fit loads better and are exceptionally warm.

As mentioned ^ the Dissent 133 get good reviews. but £95 for the Ultimate collection is a lot of cash but I like the idea of adjusting layers on the go. FWIW I use Aldi winter gloves with a liner and Galibier ones which are warmer. If its baltic i’ll put a hot hands foot warmer between liner and glove but only when i start to struggle as I overheat then!!

I agree with scotroutes. Vivoactive and wahoo chest strap are within a couple of beats. I’m 53 and my max is 165 which seems really low compared to some of the older peeps on here but my resting is 41bpm and sleeping has been down to 36bpm recently. Fitness wise I’m ok but all i’ve done since I was 5 y.o is cardio activities. Training was swimming for 15 years, Lifeguard training for a few years then cycling for the last 20 odd. My wife says i have a big heart !

That Porsche won’t need charging that much. A friend of mine has one and there is no accelerator pedal it’s been replaced by a hyperspace pedal. Fastest thing I’ve ever been in or on for that matter ( R1 and Hyabusa ).You arrive before you set off!!!. He booted it from 30 on a dual carriage and you can’t process the acceleration. It’s like being on Rita at Alton Towers but I reckon it’s faster. He has a 3 phase charger at his business premises and has travelled around the north of England without any charging issues.

Got one as an early Xmas pressie. Seems really good. Not done a gps ride yet with it but used on treadmill and turbo. HR is very accurate and tracks my wahoo chest monitor. First smart watch I’ve had and it ticks all the boxes. I got the 4S cos I’ve got skinny wrists and big chunky watches look daft but this is a nice fit. Got 3 phone style plastic screen protectors as I intend to wear it for work.

e.g. the cassettes seem to get bad reviews

I’ve got 2 of the 11 speed 46-11 cassettes secondhand new from a guy near me. Seem to perform as good as any other. It shifts better than the XTR that I had with a Oneup 45 tooth expander and 16 tooth in middle of cassette. Not sure about wear yet but i’ve put about 300 miles on one of the cassettes and it still shifts well.

I sent Northwave back after neoprene started to come away. So tight to get on. I’ve not got wide or fat!! feet. Ended up with MW7 which I would say are warmer. Toe box is bigger and lots more wiggle room. Grip grab gaiters when it’s really wet.

Have you thought about the Hothands Foot Warmers. I use them when it’s really cold and wet and never have cold toes. They are thin enough to sit under the toes. Only problem is that if you are out for a long time they might need a shake to reactivate. I’ve done 4 hour sub zero rides with Shimano MW7 boots, merino wool socks with them. Handy to put on back of hands under gloves too.

    Trainer Road have power match

    https://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/204631294-PowerMatch-Using-Power-Meters-with-Smart-Trainers

I think this will mean the power indoors and outdoors will be the same but as kryton says there are loads of other factors that will change. As above consistency and accuracy are key

My mate lost a Garmin Edge 800 a few years ago. We weren’t sure where and had a quick double back but no luck. When we got home after the ride someone had left it on his doorstep with a contact number. They had followed the ride/route back to the start!!. Jolly decent of them.
