Looks like I’ll be placing my order, then… I’m the first to admit that I’m a bike tart and this is a good dose of tartiness ..

Compass – Interesting to hear you have them already. Do you know the weight of them by any chance?

For the sake of people searching the same topic in future, the XTR equivalent low spacer Y1X401500 will work just fine. Just be sure to remove the already applied adhesive ring if there is one.

    singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/shimano-m7100-slx-cassette-what-is-the-adhesive-ring/#post-11198319

I wonder if you can just use this on the SLX ? I’m assuming it’s the same width and will clearly fit onto the free hub. I suppose it’s it’s necessary if there is creaking from the cassette.

Right at the bottom of this from shimano!

Yes the dealers manual on the shimano website states that it is a serviceable item but no mention of part number or what it’s for. I guess I can ride it and see if it creaks!

Probably the best one that shows the colour. It’s actually a very difficult colour to photograph. In the flesh it’s much more metallic/sparkling.

I think I have tightened the cassette too much that it has compressed part of the freehub only on one side..

Pretty much complete! Somehow managed to get the cassette on wonky (I think by over tightening!) So will take cassette off tomorrow to inspect ant damages…

Lowey – don’t worry, I’ll get some pics up as soon as the frame gets here! Great to hear someone else went for the British Racing Green. It was hard to find any images on the net of this colour so I guess it’s less popular?

Yes, I chose the Slackline over the Switchback as I felt like it would be better for long days in the saddle but still be a lot of fun when heading to various bike parks.

Honourablegeorge – I have thought about a dropper but pretty keen on on the Bikeyoke Divine. Are the brand x or one up just as good?

Forks have turned up now so will get some pics!

The guys at Stanton have said that they are hoping to get my frame to me by the end of the week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wheels have turned up. Paul from PT Cycles made these up for me. He managed to convince me to upgrade the spokes to CX Ray (they are flat rather than round in cross section). Looking lovely!

Found a great deal on the new Pike ultimate but is has 36mm offset. The frame is designed for a 140mm fork and has a 67 degree HA – should be fine, right?

Going to go with the Soul as I’m interested to see how this longshot geo changes things and do it properly and get 27.5 wheels/fork.

Looks like the current soul has around 8mm higher BB than the bfe from what I can see… might make enough of a difference.

DMR axe cranks are on offer at £70 atm so could pick up some 165 (running 175 Shimano SLX right now).

Another alternative frame looks to be the Production Privee Shan 27. You can get a 26 dropout to ‘lift’ the BB. Static Geometry says the 26 will have a 30mm drop. It might not fix my need for a lighter weight springier bike but it does have a longer ETT and reach. At least it’s not any heavier than my current bfe26.

Sooo I had made a long reply about some crazy man maths before the iPad died..

Let’s assume my current frame could take 275 wheels and fork. The bfe26 has a 17.6mm drop with a 140mm fork at 25% sag. Let’s call the current BB height ‘X’, as I don’t know what this is.

If we put 275 wheels into my frame, this will increase the BB height by around 15mm. If we put a 275 140mm fork into my frame, this will increase the BB height by another 10mm or so. So, to achieve ‘X’ you would need to drop the BB by a further 25mm or so, Totalling to a 42.6mm BB drop. With 140mm forks; The soul has a 38mm drop, the Slackline 51mm.

This means the Soul with my 26 gear will have a bottom bracket height which is 20.4mm lower than my current ‘X’.

The Slackline with my 26 gear will have a bottom bracket height which is 33.5mm lower than my current ‘X’.

Given that either of these frames could be run with 100mm fork and 2.2 tyres, the difference could be even smaller.

Given a couple other 26 dedicated frames have a lower BB than my bfe (BTR ranger has a BB drop of 42mm which is 25mm lower than my current bike!)

    Man maths gone crazy?

bsims, let us know how you get on today!

I will most run 26 for a small while and upgrade to 275 wheels and fork at some point next year.

I saw the next gen 3 and wondered how different it would be. I am guessing it’s going to have a longer TT.

Interesting to hear the new Longshot geo is still playful.

Having lived on the Longleat estate for nearly 7 years. I can confirm that you do not need to travel far to find trails!.. Definitely take the mtb!

There are HUNDREDS of singletrack trails. Something for every type of rider. You will want to focus your efforts north around Shearwater. There is a small road through the forest that divides the two main riding areas. South of the road (Shearwater side) is muddier and has a good mix of gravel fireroads and very technical mtb trails. North of the road is generally dryer.

The trick with longleat riding is “if you see a small entrance into the bushes on the side along a fireroad, go in it!” CHances are it will be a fantastic little trail.

If you’re after DH tracks, then you need to go to Black canon collective.

Here is my Strava Heatmap of the trails below…

@thegreatape – I’ve a friend that works at Tftuned; he made them up out of bits. They’re a mix of Revelations internals, Pike uturns body and Boxxer floodgate (or something like that!). Overall, I have 125mm of rather plush suspension!

Probably the only single crown 125mm Boxxer U-turn going… ha!
