So how long is the A-C of the rigid fork? Could I not just put a 100mm suspension fork in the front?

So do you just go running anyway even though they are sore and tender? I’ve tried MTFU and ignoring the pain and after I came back, I found stairs a problem.

Do they ever heal or is it permanent?

It’s a little too small to get the ideal saddle height with clipless pedals, but it’s just fine with flats.

I do have all the parts for a single speed build. I’d have to put a Thomson setback seatpost on and a 100mm stem to get the length right.

Interested in this thread. Currently looking for a cyclocross bike with the same option. Bike has to live in the back of my estate with the seats up. Are S&S couplers a faff to take apart?

So really then I could take the spare On-One Inbred 29er frame I have. Put some drop bars on it, thinner tyres and essentially I have a gravel bike / CX bike what won’t be much slower. Looking at the Giant Revolt from another thread, it looks like a 29er with drops and thinner tyres on. Even the review pretty much said as much.

I’m originally from Devon. So I’ve got no love for the South East really, other than it’s close to London. It’s going to be interesting to come up and have a look around.

Spyke85, I’m an Art Director/Designer, it’s with an agency near the Walton Summit Centre. I’m definitely going to be coming up to have a look. The company look good, would prefer not to name them on here for obvious reasons. As many have already said the riding is great up there, plus housing is more affordable.

Thanks Andy. It is rather expensive down here I agree. I’d like to buy a house, but end of terrance is starting around about £300K down here. I’d rather not sacrifice my soul to the mortgage gods quite that much.

Thanks for all the replies, sounds like it maybe worth popping up to have a look. Seems like most places in the UK, there are good and bad spots. I’d rather not name the firm. It’s the south of Preston, Just off M61 on an industrial park. Is the traffic heavy along that road?

The East Anglia thread on here has me second guessing my decision, considering it’s just up the road from my current location.

Currently looking for a cross bike around this price bracket myself. Whats the Giant Revolt like when you put some slick road tires on? Looking for something that can do a good road bike impression but is still off roadable.

I would also be interested to know anyone’s thoughts on the Hack. Also been looking at the Genesis CDA 20. I’d be using it for everything, road, and off road.

I have a point AR built up from a frameset. I like it. I am running 37c tyres with mudguards and it is serving well as a bit of a do-it-all bike.

Some of the finishing on the frameset was a bit rubbish (patchy paint and painted-over threads on BB shell and eyelets) but they are cheap, and you get what you pay for.

The green color is a bit gruesome in the flesh but I suppose it is high-vis for the commute!

Thanks for the input everyone. It runs well 167K miles, so I may just stick a Redex in it before I fill the tank up. It needs an MOT in January so I may just leave it until then and get both done together.

Thanks for all the feedback. It’s sounds like I should stick to my initial thoughts of getting another 15″. It did sound quite a reasonable deal at £800. It was only really for the odd small job at home, I have a desktop machine with twin monitors at work. I don’t have a home office, so I need something portable. I would probably miss the extra inches of the 15″ so maybe it’s best I pass.

I’ve currently got an old 15″ macbook pro and I’m fine on that, although it is slow hence I’m thinking of replacing it. I was wondering if the 13″ was a little small.

I am thinking of just getting a newer one as I’m going to be using it for work. Anyone do graphic design on a 13″ retina one? Do you find it small or under powered?

Being truthful the battery is bad as well. I was planning on doing the upgrades myself, but it maybe better to just buy a new machine.

I’ve check the Activity monitor and I can’t see anything causing a problem. I’m tempted to just upgrade the ram as it’s cheap to see what effect that has.

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Yosemite when it came out, and then recently to El Capitan. It just feels really slow. Opening chrome takes an age to load up.

I was looking at the Singular forks on the website. It says it has clearance for 29×3″ tyres. I’m assuming I can run a 29+ in the front?
