My main concern is I just don’t want to be spending £6- £7K on a car that I’m going to struggle to sell if I ever need to change it.

I am loving the VW UP GTI. It’s the only thing that would tempt me away from a diesel car.

So is buying a used 6 year old (2012) diesel still a wise idea? Need to change my car this year. Currently looking at VW Passat 2lt CR diesel estate

Think of changing my 2002 Audi A6 1.9tdi in for a newer 2011 diesel. I’m doing under 10k a year and mostly only use it at weekends on the motorway.

Would I be better off considering a petrol engine considering the bad press on diesels?

superstu Absolutely, will try and upload pictures of the frame over the weekend.

johnnystorm Thanks for the link, thats definitely the better option.

I must admit, love the orange ones. I think we need a Ti / sliver bike inspiration thread.

So I decided to treat myself and went for the Titanium version. Currently collecting some parts over the winter for a build. I’m thinking mostly a black stealth build.

Frame takes 120mm forks. Any recommendations on what would work well with the frame. I’ve seen some used Rockshox Sid XX World Cup 100mm.

I ride mostly rigid so don’t know much about what fork would work well. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Not really related to Beemers….But at what point do you consider passing a high milage car on then?

Have an Audi A6 2002 estate 1.9 TDI AWX engine with 177K and the clutch is high. Not slipping but it’s going to need one sooner rather than later.

I have a Slate, will check tonight. Could you post a picture up? What wheels do you have in it? Slate or Mavic ones?

Always loved the look of these. Thank goodness they rarely come up for sale.

I have heard of pretty high failure rate of the forks but not specific to that fork so buying from your local lbs might be a good idea as its a send away for any repairs apparantly!

Whats the problem with the fork? I have an XL on order and I’m tempted to cancel it.

Triton Cycles have the 2015 Explosif frame for £369. The Ti Explosif is £1699. Both frames have life-time warranty so I suppose repairs aren’t an issue really.

In terms of build. If I was getting the Ti, I suppose I’d get a really nice set of Carbon rims and Sid’s etc etc. Something like that anyway.

    It’s a shame you can’t get titanium 650b P2’s

Jameso – So what’s was the difference in ride quality between the Steel and Ti Jones?

oldfart – Definitely want the Explosif. I’ve already got a 2015 steel Unit and I absolutely love it. It’s a keeper reminds me of my 1992 Lava Dome I had in my teens. I’ve always wanted an Explosif, and these new ones remind me of that Eagle Speedster on Top Gear. All the looks of the original but with all the modern additions.

Bugger, woke up this morning and I thought I’ll get the steel, but now. Damn.

ctk – It’s kind of my thoughts as well about a steel explosif. I’ve already got a Unit 29er, but I want the Explosif for a little bit of rough and tumble.

I was told the Ti frames had life time warranty if registered on the website within 3 months.

bearnecessities – frame retails at £1699, and I’ve been offered 10% off, which hardly makes it a bargain. But it’s a looker.

I’m surprised you wouldn’t notice the weight difference when riding.

So the general consensus is to maybe go with the steel and add lightness Rather than the Ti which could need a repair down the road.

The frame is expensive, as any Ti frame is. Good point about maybe going for the steel and putting on carbon rims, bars etc etc. Very timely, I did notice another thread on here about Ti repair.

The Ti explosive frame looks lovely. I suppose I’m concerned about the frame eventually cracking etc. Which could be said of any frame material really but more important as said above, how it’s been put together.

Same story here, started riding in the early nineties on a Kona Lava Dome. Been road riding mostly since, but I have been rediscovering mountain biking recently on my 2015 Kona Unit. I like the look of the Hei He and I’m complete sold on 29er wheels.

Probably best to ride a few, tempted though with the Hei Hei

Winstanleys Bikes has the 2016 race for £1299. Is that a good buy? I’ve never had a full suspension bike before. Curious to know how it compares to others.

Anybody done a lefty conversion on a Cannonade trail SL?

Thanks Dickyboy, thats what I’m after. I will run it rigid in the winter, but I just fancied switching it out for a suspension fork for the summer. I’m definitely just going to just keep it 1×10. It keeps things simpler.

Awesome. Sounds like it’s worth progress with the build then.

Out of interest, how do they ride? Are they any good?

I bought it as frame and rigid fork only, I’m in the process of collecting the final bits to build it up. It’s a shame I can’t fit a front mech on the front. Luckly it did come with the rear mech hanger though.

I will be mostly using it for cross-country riding. Thanks for a heads up on the Cane Creek website, will go check it out.

I’m thinking of getting a slate. I was wondering about sizing, I’m 6’2″ with a 34 inside leg. Large or Xlarge?

Is there anything available to convert on older mountain bike into an e-bike? Just curious if there was a motor and battery package available.

Love the look of the Specialized Turbo Levo HT 29. I wonder how much the battery and motor is to replace when it’s out of warranty.

Let me have a think finbar and I’ll let you know.

Jambalaya, I priced up the upgrades to my current machine this afternoon. 8gb of ram and a 500gb SSD is £167, I would imagine that would make a difference for little outlay.

Have also been looking at the new Macbook, I only work in illustrator and photoshop and I’d plug it into an external monitor anyway. It wouldn’t be a rocket ship, but something for branding concepts and website design it would probably be ok. Plus it’s super portable.

Any one use a new Macbook 12″ retina for graphic design? Definitely couldn’t justify a new macbook pro, as lovely as they are.

I know what you mean. Was just looking on Apple at the new 15″ with 16gb ram and 500 SSD and its £2700, even a high spec 13″ is over £2k.

Thanks mboy, that’s my worry as well, a 2011 17″ is still £800. That would be with 16gb ram and a 500gb SSD.

Trouble is new machines are a little expensive.

Sounds like it could be a good swap. Adobe cc is a little slow on the 09. How much is the 09 15″ worth if I want to sell it. It’s got 4gb ram, 500gb hard drive.

I’m more than likely going to keep it rigid. I just wondered if there was on option to put a suspension fork on the front.
