I had to give up cx for a while due to a ” missing” cruciate. It was the hurdles that done for me. In the heat of battle I’d forget and land in something muddy or uneven bad leg first !!! que lots of hopping and grimacing and the knee would be swollen for a week.
GET THE OP DONE. Best thing I ever did :D

Nope not funny for me. I got lots of emotion but not funny, closer to tears than laughter.
This always brings a lump to my throat

It’ll be my road bike so weight wont be a problem. Its only a short trip so trying to avoid checking a hold bag. Have to see how much I can get in my hand luggage.

Thought about it, but a bit late in the year, the weather could be horrible 8O the price decided it in the end.

So you make a deliberately provocative posting on an internet forum with anti police undertones and expect full and complete agreement with you? Perhaps they should just invite him down to the police station for an informal chat over tea and scones, if they fancy it?

I have to agree my sympathies tend to lie with the homeowner in this sort of instance. I was just thinking how I might feel being arrested in the same circumstances. Asking a question is being ” deliberatly provocative ” ?????? Maybe it is to some people, or is anything posted on here just an excuse for an argument or ridicule. :(
Oh yes some of the more considered replies have shown to me that arresting the home owner probably is the best way to deal with the matter, for everyone.

OP. What if, a few hours into the interview, the occupier says, I’ve had enough of this. He hasn’t been arrested and the interview has taken place at his home or some place other than a Police Station. Should the Police say, that’s fine sir, sorry to have kept you. Allow me to show you out?
Or – having not yet got answers to the many questions they have, would you then expect them to arrest the man as he is no longer cooperating? What are their grounds at this point?
They felt that they did not have sufficient grounds to arrest initially but now that the occupier wants to leave he should be arrested, based on no new evidence at that point. Any solicitor would have any subsequent interview kicked out at court the arrest would be unlawful.

I don’t do internet arguments Bregante, I possed the question in my op, hoping someone with knowledge about police procedurs could tell me why the arrest is necessary. Maybe your scenarios do that, if their based on actual knowledge.

You failed to answer the second question. Would you expect the interview to take place under caution?

I’m not a legal expert, but if you can be questioned under caution by the police without being arrested that would be fine.

So you would rather he was questioned but not under arrest ?

Yup that sounds about right to me. Imagine you’ve just faught for you life with an indtruder in your home. First thing the police do is arrest you on suspicion of murder. Surely at least initialy the facts can be established without arresting the homeowner.

Would you prefer he was released for a few days until the facts were established….Think about that for a moment.

Why not, If he was cooperating and prepared to answer questions. Right or wrong being arrested does have a stigma attached to it.

Genuine question. Is it possible to brew your own beer and not have it taste like homebrew ? I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been invited to taste someones h/brew and although differn’t they all have an unmistakable h/brew undertaste. Not always unpleasant but not as nice as commercial brews.

Undertacking a car turning left is never a good Idea. If the op was indicating and had clearly overtaken the cyclist, how is he in the wrong ?

I was baby faced and always had trouble getting served. But do you want your 17 year old getting hammered all the time ? If he can’t sort his own fake ID out, then he’s not old enough to drink

Or am I missing the hoards of IT managers who can whoop Tony Bou’s arse on their solid rear end Royal Enfields or give Rossi a good run for his money on their Manx Nortons

Agree completly, when I raced mx I can’t think of anyone saying it would be more fun on a pre 65 or anything. There is a thriving vintage mx scene but no one ever says the old bikes are better.

Can you not see I actually have a dilemma, as in the first post?

Why do you have a dilemma ? The woman claims housing benefit the same as millions of others. Her old man doesn’t have a proper income so it doesn’t matter that he lives there either, He’d only be somewhere else on housing benefit or maybe prison at £40,000 a year. It seems likely but you don’t know for sure that he’s a petty crook, if so the police will catch up with him, but that won’t realy make any difference. He’ll still go on stealing whatever the law does to him. ( not much for a bit of lead and a tv or two )
I don’t often agree with Elf on most things, but he does seem to understand about communities and the many different type of people who live in them. He’s right to say this family aren’t monsters and the best way of keeping tabs on his offending, is for you and the rest of the community to engage with him.
Snitching probably wont help in the long run. Its the start of a slippery nasty slope.

Are the occupants of the flat hurting you or any of your family members directly ? Do you think any other members off the public are in danger from these people ?
Off course their behaving badly, but so do most people in some way or another. Hell I’ve just come back from a ride an must have gone down a couple of footpaths some pavements and through at least three red lights. The guy will probably be known to the police and they’ll catch up with him sooner or later.
Don’t listen to all the selfrighteous do gooders on here. No one likes a grass :x

I found mini vs to be a great improvement over canti’s in terms of stopping power, but much worse in terms of mud clearance.

    Ditto.
I’ve gone to a mini v front and canti rear. The mini v on thefront will sort any judder you might have.

As said doable after a fashion on just about anything. But the fun factor might be missing on a commuter with narrow tyres. Does it have to be the gap ? maybe a more fire road based route might be better.

Not so sure about skills courses, but apart from confidence boosting, what exactly do you learn ??? Aidan above says cornering, but thats body position, weighting etc. with practise that just comes ( doesn’t it ? ) For a novice being shown the basics could help, but everyones a bit different, there’s not one perfect style that makes everyone better. Look at the pro’s hardly any ride exactly the same. At the end of the day your riding will be limeted to your physical abiliities, balance , coordination, strenght and stamina.
What goes on during a days training to improve those attributes ?? I could go on a 100 training courses on how to slam dunk a basketball, but I could never do it.
Practise will make you better, not so sure about the psycological placebo of a days skills course.

Lapierre’s do have a problem with cracked frames and s/arms. I’ve got a 2010 x/control and the s/arm broke in two 8O. The problems so bad there’s a long wait for replacement parts. At least I managed to get a loaned s/arm, the wrong colour to keep me going untill the correct one arrives. God knows when that will be. Great riding bikes but a risky s/hand purchase without a warranty.

The fast guys out front would probably be on something more like a Taurine than a 575. Whatever you ride, fast rolling tyres are my tip for the Beast, plenty of road and only a couple of realy rocky bits that you’ll have to watch them on.

Its do’able on just about anything. Someone did it on a folding shopper last year or the year before !!! He wasn’t last either. But its more fun on a proper mtb. Cross bikes are ok, but not so much fun on the rockier bits. My weapon of choice is a lightweight xc full susser with fast rolling tyres. :D

I tore my acl on a mx bike. Struggled on for about 6yrs with physio etc, but had the reconstruction about 5yrs ago.One of the best thing I’ve ever done. It does take about a year for full recovery, but I was riding a bit after about 8 wks and slowely built it up. Just bear in mind much of the graft dies back before a blood supply is established !! just make sure you don’t subject it to any trauma untill it strengthens up again. Its back to square one if you do :(

There’s better hubs. The one I had went through freehub bodies on a regular basis, it was heavy and when the bearing race in the hub pitted junk.

I raced my ti456 with talas forks wound down to 100mm. Didn’t feel right to me, ended up at about 115mm for race duties. It’s something you’ll just have to try for yourself.

Merthyr is a bit rough, it suffers very much from its industrial legacy. But there are some nice bits and you can ride out of you door into the Beacons so it isn’t all bad.
But working in Merthyr doesn’t mean you have to live there :D From N.Cardiff its only 20min drive, dual carrigway all the way up.

Reccomend the national parks campsite route. Me and Mrs taxi rented a car at L.A bought a tent and camping gear from a wallmart along with a campsite guide and had a great 4wk Honymoon.

Use bottle and cage for race days. Tube and co2 inflator go in back pocket. Wouldn’t want to ditch the camelback for normal rides or marathons though.

How much the guy paid for his bike isn’t relevant, as said he could be loaded so why not buy a good bike even for rides around the park.
But why join a group untill your at least up to speed a little bit :(
What did he think was going to happen !! Even the most social rides require a certain abillity. I must have ridden for at least a year before I was confident enough to ride with other people, for some it seems like its the first step.

Don’t belive the hype. As far as I know no elite cyclists us a traditional 2/1 mtb gear to train. If your quite fit it will help with strength on climbs, but the rest of the time you’ll be coasting. Ride one if thats what you enjoy, but it won’t improve a fit riders fitness.

Maybe he was deaf ? I’m deaf in one ear and don’t always hear people if i’m on a training mission :P But then again, as you say he might just have been a miserable sod.
