Came over in the end, I was in the dodgy looking yellow VW T4. N022 all in black with a white Helmet. I enjoyed it, good course, made a nice change to do cyclocross on a fast dry track. No idea where I finished, probably my usuall mid pack. Did notice there aren’t as many vets as in S.Wales. There was only one other V50 as far as I could see. Loads more of us old boys across the channel !! Deff try and do another one.

I used to spend a lot of time in casino’s and I guess I was what you would call a ‘professional gambler’. My winnings set me up for life, but I had the sense to walk away.

I spent many years as a casino worker, love to know how you were a proffesional playing table games ?
There’s only one way to gain a % advantage and no casino I worked in would let you play long enough to set yourself up for life.
And if you weren’t just being lucky, why walk away ? You could still be raking it in.

Pretty simple really you’ve agreed a deal honour that. Just tell the new bidder the bikes no longer for sale, its not a problem. Your words got to be worth more than £20 surely ???

Had two bikes stolen from my shed. Not my best bikes but good enough. They just cut through the frames !!!

I’ve no problem at all with bike fits. It’s a service that’s offered, completely up to the individual whether they use that service or not.
I am curious about how it works though.Take a group of identicaly sized people Some riders like to sit up a bit, some stretched flat out. How does a bike fit decide who is right and that a saddle should go forward 2cm, or a stem should be 10mm longer ?? Everyone has different preferences, so how can one way be the right way and everything else the wrong way.

Without going into conspiracy theories, I reckon they made the wrong call on the night, and came up with this bull to save going back and altering the result. Very poor IMHO.

Does it work like this. The buyer can claim money back from paypal if things go wrong, so no risk. But if the seller refunded the money before getting the goods back he’s got no come back and can loose money and goods. Is that right ?

Yes, obviously, but…..there are plenty of soft middle aged nobodies buying stupid expensive carbon lovelyness in the quest for free speed that is making them faster so they can come 255th in a triathlon instead of 265th they would have come with a “compromised” bike.

I resemble that remark a bit :D But if your going to race and can afford it why not have the best kit ? 255th sounds better than 265th to me. Racing for most people is about being the best you can be.

Kmc x10 about £15 at Ribble. Get a pair of joining link pliers and chain maintanence becomes a joy.

It doesn’t have gears or suspension !! So normally thats a no for me. But I love “parts bin” bikes and a ride what you got mentality, so a big thumbs up.

As said last time I needed a new hanger it was that plus rear mech+chain+wheel true £100 in parts !! Did it all myself so no Labour. Halfords sound well in the ball park

You’ll need to test ride one and make your mind up then. Only you can decide if its worth the extra money.
A good carbon frame can be a superb ride but some don’t ride better than a good alloy one.

I’m interested wrecker ! Certainly more interested than a what tyre for the beast question.
Let us know how you get on OP.

Getting back to the op’s question. Looking at the strava times and some of the names well over 2hrs I would say 2 1/2 hrs would be a more realistic goal for your w/end warrior type, and a very fit one at that !!!

Leckwith hill on a road bike is as good as it gets I’m afraid. A couple of muddy footpaths but no proper mtb riding. As said North Cardiff Castle Coch is were the riding is.

Well I’m a Froome fan, like his understated manner and calm aproach. Don’t mind Wiggins either, would liked to have seen them on different teams and seen them racing each other properly.
You guys constantly going on about who you reckon’s on drugs blah, blah, blah. Give it a break every pro cycling thread its the same stuff over and over again. Get over it, just go and watch something else or just ride your bikes more.

I’d leave it untill the noise didn’t go away. My 15 year old boiler makes all sorts of noises from time to time. Never get it serviced and only had anyone out to it twice. Worchester bosch 240.

Where can you get a novatech, alpha, revelolution wheelset for £250 ??

    taxi25

Wheels first , then stuff like seatpost , saddle and h/bars.
All you’ve got left is the groupset probably the most expensive place to save weight.

The whole of this thread predicates on the honesty and reliability of the OP.It seems to me to be very “keyboard warriorish” of him to post on here accusing the LBS of dishonesty. If he can prove this, then he should be dealing with Trading Standards, not making potentially libellous statements on a public site.I think the mods should have pulled this thread as it could threaten Singletrack if the LBS is not prosecuted.

Biggest load of tosh ever !! This is a bike forum and if its not for posting our cycling related experiencess whats it for ? The lbs admits it was wrong and and giving a refund proves it. Unlike most on here I know the op and like everyone he has history ( mostly for a love of riding his bikes bloody hard ), but not for libelous stories.
For what its worth I reckon there was a delay in the spokes coming so the lbs used longer nipples to rush it out and “somehow” forgot to mention this when charging. Poor show ! all this double identity posting is another poor show !!

Taxi driver shamed himself !! Golden rule is, never judge, if your light is on and the fare has money in his/her pocket you pick them up ! Down my way he could find himself in a bit of trouble.

Just watched this. Wiggins is a sick man, get of your bike now !! Nothing to prove to internet pundits, get well and focus on your next goal.

TBH I can see why any one would buy a 5k bike ‘off the shelf’ any way, even the good spec of a Canyon can be bettered by a bit of internet bargain searching at that price.

you might with some off the shelf £5000 bikes. But with Canyon that would only leave you with £800 or so for the frame, not enough for something to match the rest of your bits.

Its not very long half a mile or so. Also called hill with no mame or bryn melin. Just get up it as best you can, probably not worth gearing the bike for one little bit, if you’ve got to get off and push I bet you won’t be the only one.

I think you go up Devel’s elbow, if so it’s a sod 20%+ went up up with a 39/27 and would have got off if I’d seen anybody doing the same. Maned up in the end but would have liked a lower gear !!

    taxi25

You don’t say how hard your pushing on your rides. A longer ride at least once a week and realy push hard on a couple of the shorter ones. Second the strava idea worked wonders for me :D

Flew with them April 2012 the 32k rule was in place then.

    taxi25

Most races around here the leaders will lap half the field twice ! So what gearing they have is irrelevant to me anyway. I like a 34/46 with a 13/28 out back. The lower gear keeps me spinning and helps get me up some stuff without dismounting. Thats what works for me, but there’s no magic bullet.

With the road bikes a cf ultimate frame is just over £1100 but you can get a 105 full bike for £400 more !!

Looks fantastic, I love watches and that ones on my to want list. If it’s a lifes ambition and one comes up at the right price go for it.
I shudder to think what I loose on bikes but I’ve never lost on buying and selling watches. Probably one of the best value hobbies I’ve ever had.

Can you swap the 36 for a 34. Shouldnt affect front mech trimming, the 105 might struggle with a 30t cassette.

Buy cheap buy twice. Your bound to enjoy it and want to upgrade straight away. T
hats what happenes to me anyway. Id look for something s/h for about £600 you’d get a proper bike then.
