Unless you already know a 5hr ride in the Beacons ect, I cant see how you can plan one in 5 minutes after breakfast. I’d go to Afan, but Cwmcarn is about an hour away, Cafall and the Twrch probably isn’t a 5 hour ride but your legs will think it was 😯

Unless you realy want that 53/11 which is a pretty tall gear for us mortals, ( honestly you’ll only spin it out on few British roads) I’d go for the compact with the 25/11. You get closer gears which for me anyway make for a more enjoyable ride.

Good day out again, apart from that road climb !!!!. I’m sure I did it all 29.8 mls on my garmin. Loads of people missing a loop makes sense. I started pretty close to the front, then all of a sudden I’m passing loads of people who definitely weren’t in front at the start or who came past me. Shame realy, results will be pretty meaningless now 🙁

Once had a nibble on some wild bird food Mrs Taxi had bought. I thought it was some mixed nut snacky stuff. It tasted rubbish and I said not to buy it again 😳

Can’t think of anywhere that has cycling on as a regular thing 🙁
Wales v England is Sunday but there’s two games Saturday, makes it more unlikely.

Pretty sure the 135 horus rings will be fine.

I’ve used 10spd campag chain rings with 11spd and it worked fine. As your getting new chain rings why not not get the 11spd ones ?

I’m a fan of the gap ride, its just a great place to be especially on a clear day. As said not the most technical ride but good enough and some wonderfull views 😀
This is probably the classic route from Talybont. its worth looking for the Bridleways after the Gap descent.

3×10 for me with a 32/11 cassette. I don’t constantly move between the front rings looking for marginal changes in gearing, but sort of have three 1×10’s to choose from. My legs don’t like big jumps between gears, so I have blocks of closley spaced gears to choose from. Whever climbing, descending, just spinning or on the road.
Again never had much of a problem with chains coming of or the front mech. Choice is good though so whatever works for you.

Genuine advise from me.If you go into a betting shop and ask for odds on a scenario that isn’t listed, the bloke or woman contacts head office and asks if they can work some out. You then whip out your 50p. Tell me your not wasting peoples time ?

Bookmakers only operate to make money. It would cost them more than 50p to generate odds and handle your wager. Just grow up a bit and stop wasting your and other peoples time.

Maybe it is. But as you haven’t weighed it on an accurate pair of scales weight is purely hypothetical. But I’ve got a scott scale with some lighter bits than you’ve got and it weighs 21lbs. I’m guessing 23 lb ish, but whatever it is its a nice light F/S enjoy. 😀

Nice bike, but no it isn’t under 22lbs.

Always worth trying to collect a few spares, certainly a cheap wheelset to keep yourself riding whilst these things get sorted.

No skin suits is a safety issue. Also it helps promote the sport to the general public. Not many skinsuits out on the trails.

I’ve got to admit I’d love a 953 Volare but you’d blow your budget on the frame alone !!
Maybe 853 is were you need to be price wise. Don’t discount Carbon though, some great bikes at that price point.

I wish people could have a serious conversation about this. I’ll soon be getting a new frame and just need to know if I would be stupid getting a 26er. I don’t care about wheel size but care if I won’t be able to get new forks or wheels in the few years as at the moment im still thinking of the 45650b rather than 456. Can anyone in the bike industry enlighten me?

I don’t think anyone can for sure. If the manufactures do stop making 26″ bikes and frames yes they will eventually die out. But maybe next year or in a couple of years 26″ will be the next “new” thing.
If you want a new bike just buy what’s available now and enjoy it, whatever size wheels its got.

Just looked at mine, the thick 2mm washer looks a bit “gritty” certainly not had any problems so far.

Went to a bike shop in the week and out of 40 ish bikes not one 26″ wheel on display …..gobsmacked to say the least

So the op is right, or he will be when all the 26″ parts eventually just fade away 🙁

Cancer awareness does save lives in the here and now. Much of what Livestrong does is in America and doesn’t really come up on our radar. Stuff like dealing with insurance companies can mean life or death in the US. Pretty much agree with the “level playing field” argument as well. What completely sets Armstrong apart was his rabid attacks on people who dared challenge him. People who were as it’s been proved were telling the truth. Untill he can personally reconcile himself with these “victims” there’s no way back IMHO.

I’ve got the slx now, but had an earlier cf ultimate. Great frame, just felt right, comfy and stiff. The new sl uses the same mold ( allegedly ) as the slx just a different carbon layup ect. They can feel a bit high at the front but I put that down to the Acros headset, go down a size if you want to go realy racy.

who ever came up with this 34 mins has made a rod for their own back, it just gives leverage for chancers to claim. As a target fine but Impossible to ever guarantee.
Not read everything but why were the ambulance crew “negligently” late. Refusing to leave a break, well laid down procedures ignored, something that would have ben considered gross negligence within the ambulance service itself ?

And its a forum for help and advice. No need to reply if you have nothing constructive to say.

I see you didn’t answer the op’s question, all you said was you rode up more than your mate. How does that help with the gearing question.
Also its a forum for “discussion”, help and advise are just a part of it.

Ok this is a forum. You ask questions you discuss stuff, but fullofit is right, if you don’t know what gear you can push, how can a complete stranger, who knows nothing about you tell you what to use ???

I’m an eternal optomist. Perhaps I’m being naive, but I think I’ll survive every trip on my bike without getting knocked of 🙂
If I became so sure I’d be in a accident, and would need a camera to record evidence I’d probably give up the bike.

A 300 quid hard tail will do you for any trail centre. With the rest of the budget you can then get a helmet gloves decent waterproof jacket and shorts and knee pads etc along with a pack and some spare tubes quick links etc etc etc. no good getting a nice bike to puncture a tyre and not be able to be self sufficient at the trail side IMHO.

Why do people post stuff like this ? the OP is asking about a £2000 F/S. Do you think he’s going to read it and think, yes what I want after all is a £300 Halfords special ( nothing wrong with that if that’s your budget ) and a spare tube.

Every bit of general advise I’ve read suggests spinning a highish cadence works best for knees. As ever there will be loads of exceptions to that rule.
with regard to mogul skiing, I wonder how many of those competitors will still be competing in a over 40’s class.

Fair bit of discussion on the above thread. Amazed so many people don’t think there’s a real demand for home mechanics bit of kit, that doesn’t include coke bottles or a great big compressor.

Not that its realy relevant, but why is it the wrong bike for you ?
