Comparing on one and canyon is laughable. Seen many Planet X bikes in the tdf?

Didn’t you see Valverde storming up the Mur de Huy on his Planet x today ? Oh hang on a bit…..

I’ll drink and drive ( 1 1/2 pts ) more than I’ll drink and ride. The two don’t mix for me, but carry on if thats whatrocks your boat 😯

Thought it was great. Series linked on the Sky box now.

Agree £475 doesn’t seem overpriced. Just the size and the respray putting people off. Can’t see how you wont get close to that on ebay.

Sorry tired your talking about what might work for you, how and where you ride. The gears you mention wouldn’t work for 90% of people in 90% of places. The only thing that works for most people in most circumstances is a compact chainset with a 28:11 block. Your definitely over estimating what gear normal people can climb in.

42-23 would be a brutal gear for most people 😯 Its the other end that would bother me 42-11 would be much to spinny. A carbon forked triban with descent wheels would be my choice.

Not sure why you reckon its a bit pants. Honestly its really good. Seen worse riding as well.

I’m completely reckless, but wouldn’t ride that 😯 that’s the silly light alloy frame they did. If it is, it’s the one most racers used it as a expendable crit frame. If it lasted half a season it was good going. I’d just bin it and move on.

Using only one stereo earphone is rubbish !! I’m deaf in one ear so use these.

Much better than hearing half of the music. Still no use to me for riding, but just the job if you’ve got two working ears.

Mojo might not be the cheapest but their service is superb, everything comes back almost by return of post. I’ve tried to save a couple of quid in the past and usually ended up thinking why didn’t I use mojo in the first place !!!

Unless you need something competitive, get something comfy and rack-up the miles! Guess a cheapish steel frame (520/525 type stuff) is only going to add a pound or 2 or so over something plastic. Nothing really that the gained fitness of many miles on something comfy won’t overcome. Ribble, Genesis etc..

don’t know why this keeps getting trotted out, I’ve got a good steel bike and a carbon bike, the carbon probably has the edge on comfort, is stiffer, lighter. faster and the big one “more fun”.

Totally awesome !! Terrorized Barcelona, before he scored I was shouting at the TV, “just give the ball to Bale”.

100mm and about 35mm of spacers and felt very upright and a bit cramped.

I bet if you chucked 25mm of those spacers away and put a 120mm stem on it would be transformed.
Only thing wrong with a quick demo is, you don’t get a chance to sort out those personal preffences which make all the difference.

Hard to advise on what bike to get threads. All you can do really is think of something you might like yourself.
On that basis I’d be looking at the Canyon grand canyon al slx’s. No reason that it would be better or worse than anything else. But its great value and they start well within your price range.

The acros Headset with the built in adjuster is nearly 20mm,bit like adding 10mm to the head tube.

SLX in majorca you lucky person .
what’s it like on the long climbs?

Bikes great on the climbs, its me who’s a bit $%£& going up. Descends like a rocket as well 😀 Sure footed, responsive but still feels stable and holds a line really well. Pretty comfy on some of the rougher lanes to.

In Majorca airport as we speak, just done 300mls in 4 days on my slx. I’m 6ft with a 33″ inside leg. Large for me with a 120mm stem. The size guide said medium but that wouldn’t have been right for me. Not unless I was racing with a 140mm stem.
Bike was great by the way, couldn’t have been happier with it.

I’d get a pair of the £49.99 conti gp400s from merlin. A proper road tyre will make a difference. Hard to say how much but when you ride with someone else a little bit does matter. On a road ride you tend to keep moving, not so many stop at the top of the hill breathers. All the little extra bits of effort you might have to make with slower tyres add up in the end.

I couldn’t realy care less what happens to Bellfield. But as a general principle prisons should be as safe as possible, not realy sure how this could be achieved without having everyone in isolation.

Can’t think why unless you wanted to sue them. I think this may have happened, no idea if it was successful.

If you enjoyed the road bits perhaps its time to get a road bike if you haven’t already got one. Mix things up a bit, come back to the mtb when your ready.

I’m 6ft and ride a 58 canyon with a 56.6cm top tube and a 120mm stem. Its spot on for me but could easily go up or down a size without a problem.

Or you could just ask them not to ride to close. Just say ” sorry mate it makes me uncomfortable, do you want to come through or drop back a bit” maybe thats a bit hard for some people, better to spit in their face or blow snot all over them 😯

A complex character but ultimately a very dangerous man. Nobody’s all bad but he’s guilty of appalling violence. Not sure he’ll ever be released, even after all this time I’m sure his response to things that don’t go his way iss extreme violence. 🙁

Not riding with a big group is the key for me. I don’t normally have any trouble, if I did I can’t see how I’d bother with the road bike. Once in a while you come across an idiot, but I meet them when I’m in my car as well 🙁

Can’t comment on the Nerve but if they’re anything like the road bikes its a Canyon specific headset.

Continental Gp4000s are my favourites. Probably the most popular quality tyre out there. £49.99 a pair at Merlin. 😀

Seems strange. Maybe a silly question but does the bike actually fit him ? Comfortable, seat hight reach all that stuff.

Have you suffered a financial loss as a result of the data protection failing ?
If not probably time to walk away. Your ” matter of principal ” comment throws up a warning signal. When your very passionate about a wrong its easy to get carried away. Step back and gave a re think maybe ?

Time to pick your winner. Can Cav do it again ? Like the way he’s riding at the moment, early days but he’s showing some intent 😀

Halfords seem to be selling the Carrera Zelos cheaply at the moment. Nothing wrong with it at that price point.

Bit of a nightmare for me, crashed heavily on the first lap and had to retire with sore ribs 🙁
But a great event, very interesting seeing all the different bikes racing together, and that no particular bike seemed to have an advantage over the full lap. Particularly impressed with how capable the fat bikes were. Not just with riders like gee on them, but with more normal people on board as well.

Perhaps ap wins. Unless of course your bearings are shot after a couple of months, then you loose, whatever ap’s experience’s are.

Pretty irrelivant really, if it ever happened the authorities would come round and requisition all the food. If you tried to hide any you’d probably be shot for hoarding 🙁 Better of stocking up on cigarettes and alcohol, you could trade for all the food you want then.

I’d want to a demo a few before I made my mind. Buying un ridden may lead to tragic waste of money?

Generally good advise, but I’ve never test ridden bikes. I tend to buy on spec, and the sort of bike for its intended use. Once I sort out contact points, then things like h/bar width stem reach ect I just get on with riding. Hard to see how a bike with a descent rep and good components in more or less the right size, designed for the type of riding you intend could end up being a “tragic waste of money”
If you don’t mind a bit of a wait the Canyon Spectral looks great.
