Head to toe in armour and riding a bike old enough to have v-brakes…… Definitely a local lad.

Taxi25, I’ve just bought the DT Swiss ones linked in Kryton’s post above. They did come with a removable core + the tool to remove it – exactly as advertised on CRC.

Just looked at mine again. Palm to face 😆

I bought some of the Dt swiss ones and they don’t have a removable core. Bit of a PITA if you ask me 🙁

Went from 2100g Hope/Mavic 321 combo to 1700g Hope/Stans Arch EX and noticed no difference.

Amazing what some people do or don’t notice, when I used tubes I could feel the difference btwn lightweight and standard tubes ! Not saying I was faster just that I could feel a difference in the bike.

4 years without a new bike is plenty long enough, if you dont mind a wait see above.

Have a look at the superstar components wheel builder. I’m sure you could put something together with Stans Crests for under £300.

I’ll build some wheel myself, but for nice ones I get my lbs to do the final tension and true. They charge me £15 per wheel for this.

Does it hurt when you ride ? If not or very little I’d keep riding, but take things a bit easier. Thats me though its your choice in the end.

I doubt many of the borrowers didn’t pay back the loan, I bet it’s mostly the 5000% intrest. So Wonga won’t have lost money.

This is exactly what the £222,000,000 will be. Wonga won’t be sustaining any actual loss just some fairytail figure from their books.

I’ve been waiting for a product like this for a while, so will deff buy one when they become available.
But I do think some of you are being a bit hard on davvey. I can well imagine that using a second fully charged unit to completely “pop” the bead into place could damage a tyre. Loads of times I’ve had to pump a tyre, especially a dry one, up to its maximum pressure before its completely seated. Sometimes not even then and the washing up liquid has had to come out.
When mine comes I’ll use it to get the initial seal, then inflate it gradually with a track pump to completely seat the bead.

You obviously know what you paid for your hubs njee, but they’ve gone up a bit now and you were lucky with customs. I’ve always had to pay at least the 20% vat and the fee for collecting it 🙁
Decided to go with the ones I linked to, the LB rims seem great but for my circumstances ordering parts fron 3 continents means 3 trips to courier depots, then 2 trips to my LBS. All coming out of my working day and adding to the cost.

Your figures aren’t adding up for me. The hubs are £234 from Ae then add shipping +duty, vat so £300 easily.
The rims work out at £249+vat, ect so another £300+ and where can a man in the street get 64 cx-ray spokes for vastly cheaper than £120 ? And I’ve got to pay to get them sorted. So £750 how is that similar to£565.

If there’s a right of way, the farmer shouldn’t be putting a dangerous bull in the field. Farmer by me often puts a bull in a field with a bridleway going through it. It’s bloody massive but just a big softy 😀

I looked at the l/b rimed option. But I can’t match your pricing.
Rims with postage and duty about £300
    Hubs another £300
    Cx-ray spokes at least £120
I can assemble but I want them properly tensioned £30
    £750
The wheels from r2 I like are £565 to my door.
If you can put links to your costing it would be appreciated. 😀

Thanks for the feedback, free delivery on the wheels and about £100 cheaper than I can get them built over here. looks like all systems go 😀

Would look for something else personally

Got to agree with this really. Not a “bad” bike but I don’t see how it would be the best option for a newbie to just get out and ride some trails.

Unfortunately a lot of motorists presume that anyone in a car is trying to do the same as them, get somewhere as quickly as possible. Whereas cycling is a leisure activity for passing the time so they presume the bike is bimbling along whereas their journey is of utmost importance.

    This is very true.

Did the tumble 10 times on may 3rd participating in the tumble up for life charity event. Caerphilly mnt is much shorter but will make you suffer more, especially with tired legs. 😀

Tough choice for the front four. Work at the front and probably end up getting jumped by the other three, or save some energy and try your luck in the bunch sprint.

Not a bad call for Voss, but winning out of a strong bunch sprint was never going to work for Lizzie.

Couldn’t believe it !! Don’t know how there legs felt, but to just sit up and get swamped by the chasing pack 🙁
    Made no sense to me.

This comes up loads on here. And the same old stuff gets trotted out all the time. But in the situation the OP is describing by singuling out a vehicle, certainly a Motor bike can pass SAFELY. so in this instance I very much agree with him.

Eight, 4 times each side. Its a result of being c$£p at MX, road motorcycling, MTB’ing and cyclocross. Not much blood supply in either clavicle now 🙁 Last time I saw a consultant he recommended I give up robust sports. But he looked at me and said “but your not going to are you”. 😀

On a motorbike nobody ever consider’s the swinging arm to be part of the “frame” can’t see why it should be different on a MTB.

Velotech always pop up on Campag compatability threads. Its always the same company line, which I suppose is what they feel they have to say. But it doesnt answer the op’s question, which the answer is yes, inreal life all the chainsets you mention will work just fine.
I had the same speal asking about using a campag chainset with a Ultegra groupset. I tried it to see and I couldnt tell any difference.

Time has a habit of distorting the truth. All I get from CK’S posts is a man passionate about protecting the truth and his place in mountain biking’s legacy. If I was in his shoe’s, I’d be very robust in my language if I kept reading half truths and inventions about the things I new as fact, not least because I was actually there and very much a part off them.

Fat bike’s mainstream ? Not really, did the Brecon Beast Sunday 800 riders, I saw one. Not as many single speeds as there used to be either.

Not “legal tender” but most clued up shops will accept them, you can certainly pay them into your bank. Never a problem using them in my Taxi.

I’ve had dozens of bikes over the years and they’ve all felt a bit different or strange at first.
Laser bike fits !!!!! Come on really ?? Maybe some people see the value but they go totally over my head.
I bet you’ve got a great bike, get the gears adjusted, sort the saddle hight, rotate the bars a bir and get out riding. Thats all there is to it.

Totally personal. I’m pretty fit but don’t like grinding up stuff. 50/34 compact with a 11/25 out the back. A recent trip to the Alps had me wishing I’d fitted a 11/28 and I will for the next trip.

Obviously a top end super light bike will be a bit quicker, but thats not the point. Most of all it will be a joy to ride. Mine’s worth every penny, and very much adds to my cycling pleasure 😀 for us mortals surely thats the only consideration.

Don’t worry about fashion just go with what works. I’m the same as you, if I climb in a higher gear but a lower cadence I trash my legs 🙁

Just make sure the stem is on tight. Use the torx tool and turn the screw clockwise. The headset seperates a nbit and takes up the slack.
The supplied tool will break soon just get the right size torx screwdriver from Halfords or domewhere.

I don’t think you’d find a new cross bike for your budget. For me its a no brainer, the Merlin pr7 is killer value 😯 56cm would be your size.
