I’m one of the first to sneer at the compensation culture, but the statistics and those pictures clearly show a problem.
    This sums it up completely.

The infrastructure needs to be good enough for the below average skill or confidence levels, not just the expert. And it isn’t.

All the flagging as unsafe is pointless now. Just tap the disclaimer and the segment comes back to life 😀

Hate riding off road in the dark 🙁 Don’t mind the cold and mud, but negotiations with MrsTaxi about cleaning gear is a pain. Did I mention the on off chest infection since November.

The amount of people I saw outside the main entrance of the local hospital (many in wheelchairs) in their pyjamas in January smoking was quite shocking.

If your a smoker your still a smoker whether your in hospital, a wheelchair or whatever 🙁

Emailed airshot before Christmas. Their response then was the design was being modified, and they were hoping to start selling at the end of January. If thats April now the Bontrager is looking more interesting all the time.

No idea where or how some of you guys ride but ive got a 50/34 with a 25/11 cassette and in S.Wales most rides I’ll use ALL the gears !! Gearings a totally personal thing, but I can’t even begin to imagine the point of a wide ratio single ring “proper” road bike. Why compromise yourself for a front mech and a couple of grams of aluminium.

Tongwynlais and Taffs well spring to mind. Handy for Cardiff and the M4, A470. There’s loads really, Cardiff’s population is about 330,000 but has a catchment of over 1,000,000 mostly old mining towns and villages. The further you go from Cardiff the cheaper but stranger it gets 😯

Depends on what other bikes you’ve got. I’ve got a light 29er mtb and compared to that, of road my cross bike is rubbish, so it gets used for racing only. If my mtb was a heavy gravity oriented bike a cross bike might make sense for less rough trails. As others have said they can be ridden over most anything, but the rougher the trail the less fun they become.

Our old dog ate most of a towel. Once about six inches reappeared I got him to sit down, put my foot on it then
threw his ball for him, problem solved.

@ natch. was there late August aswell 😀 Agree the top bit of col de sarrenne is a bit sketchy 😯 just like some of the rougher welsh valley roads, so I felt right at home LOL. It got better pretty quick so Iit wasn’t a problem.
A link to a good ride but mostly in reverse.

I’m struggling to see the point aswell ?
You have an accident and claim on your personal accident policy. As sure as night follows day, if your insurers think negligence was involved, their going to try and get their money back from the race organisers.
It might even make a claim even more likely. Without PA I’d just suck it up incase of an accident. After paying a premium I’d probably make a claim, starting the whole claim and counter claim ball rolling.

Include them to top up your milage, but mark the rides private to stop cluttering up your followers (if you have any) activity feeds.

Deffinetly try and go after the snow has cleared, Alp Duez is really tough but it’s not the most scenic climb, you’d want to tie it into something like Col De Sarenne, I wouldn’t fancy those smaller high altitude roads in the snow.

then his behaviour is not what we expect(*) from our glorious rulers.

Its a big leap of imagination for me to think of Prince Andrew as one of our “rulers”. What exactly does he rule ?

£1800 for a 12mnt old £4000+ bike. Best bike I’ve ever had. To the OP I’d be tempted at about £1200 for the bike your thinking of. I feel the sellers pain, putting a bike up for sale then new ones become discounted 🙁

Why do you want to remove them ? If its a cross frame and its got disc mounts your going to use I’d just saw them of and touch up with a bit of paint.

Op what would you say to Hope ? Its what has always happened with alloy freehubs, its just normal wear and tear. The hubs perfectly usable and will continue to be so for ages.

Living on the s.coast and the op’s daughter not being the outdoors’y type Pen-y-fan is the obvious choice.
It’s a nice moderatly challenging walk with glorious scenery. It’s also the highest peak in the South of Britain.

Not sure why’d you be overly wobbly starting of on a road bike, how are you on a mtb? Can you not remove the cages and straps from your existing pedals, youd be left with a basic flat pedal then. Not sure id bother changing the fork on the Btwin but some Continental Gp4000s will work wonders.

I’ve always assumed people who build trails do so because they enjoy doing so. As part of their hobby, a bit of fun just like riding their bikes. Apart from a bit of deadfall clearing I never touch any trails, just ride whats there.
Honestly if your going to be arsey about it just don’t bother, I’ll still be out there riding whatever, the same as most others.

If your transporting passengers for a fee you’ll need some form of private hire insurance. I use these people http://bell-insurance.co.uk/
give them a ring, tell them what you want and they’ll sort you out a quote.

I suspect a lot of people commenting haven’t watched the program. If you have, you’ll remember after the first confrontation they ditched the show cars as they were to recognisable.

If a decent level Enduro or DH team take on the 650b+/29+/semi-fat concept and makes it work, betters their previous results, beats existing standard tyres etc then i’ll be first in line to hand over my money as i’ll know the concept has been proven and its not just beardy men wobbling around the woods on rigids shouting ‘fun’ at the tops of their voices….or using the now cliched phrase that he was riding a fatbike “with a smile plastered across his face”….

I do find myself sort of agreeing with the above. I’m in no way criticising peoples choice of bike, but we seem to be in a cycle of “inventing” the next new and better bike. And if it’s not better what’s the point. All this wheel size stuff just seems to be a different way of doing the same thing. For the life of me I can’t see how riding one type of bike is more “fun than any other nice well sorted bike being ridden for its intended use.

Sounds like you’ve lived an interesting life so far OP. But now your reduced to telling strangers on STW how you’ve denied yourself for 18yrs. WTF man live your life as you see fit, there’s no definitive answers on here.
