Going back, even after seat belts were available, they weren’t popular with drivers. Thinking was it was better to be thrown clear in a crash rather than being strapped into a burning wreck 😯

Unless it was a course designed with fat bikes in mind, I’m not seeing much point ? Quick riders are quick whatever they ride. Loads of different classes to cater for every type of bike and rider smacks of “every one has to get a prize, nobody is allowed to loose”.

If you don’t mind road rides you could go more or less anywhere. Mrs taxi and myself go to various places on the Costa Blanca, some very good riding there. loads of pro teams out there at the moment, they don’t all go to Mallorca.

I put a 120mm fork and a dropper on my Trek superfly 100sl. Turned it into a super fast all day trail bike. You could do the same with any carbon x/c full f/s and have a 25lb ish bike.

I read something once about a study into groups of people and how many had to be in the group before they became oblivious to their surroundings and their impacts on other people. It wasn’t many, 4 or 5 I think was enough in many cases.

This is it really. Pretty sure it’s not intentional just a facet of human behaviour.

You’ve lapped me often enough at the cross lol, but that’s as far as it goes. Your identity isn’t much of a secret here in S.Wales.

Eddie can still ride a bit for an oldie !! I won’t blow his cover on here, but his figures would be true enough.

+1 for Aer lingus and pre clearing customs and immigration in Dublin. We breezed through in a couple of minutes. Breakfast at the hotel in New York was dominated by horror stories of 3 hour waits at JFK 😯

Isn’t that to do with inheritance tax?

Similar rules apply with nursing home costs, otherwise people would give everything away just before they needed to go into one.

    If only he’d gone a touch slower…

And run Turnerguy over I presume. Your point being anybody who suggests cyclists can be bell ends deserves to be physically harmed ?

Deffinetly go to the New York deli for lunch 😀 In fact its the only city center eatery I’d actually bother to make a trip into the city centre to go to !! If you order a hero think about sharing one 😯 unless you want to lie down all aftrenoon
Try Bullys on Romilly Crescent for dinner, its within walking distance or a short cab ride away.

With S.Wales in mind, before a trip to the Alps I did a Nantymoel-Afan valley- Treorchy-Hirwaun and back to Nantymoel ride. Its as close to the Alps as you’ll get in the Uk. Not sure what you’ll need to get up Alp Duez at the end though. I’ve only done it with fresh legs and found it Vvv tough !!

I’m not sure companies loose much as a result of Chinese copies. Different customer groups.

Happens all the time. Fiver sounds a bit steep, sort of thing good lbs would have in their s/h give out to customers free box.

Definitly not one for the best bike

Op. Get which ever takes your fancy, but not sure why the Jamis is “better” nothing special about Reynolds 520. I’ve never bought into the steel is best thing ( despite owning a 853 bike). From a personal perspective I’d prefer the lighter Pinnacle.

There isn’t a huge difference in price between Tiagra and 105. How much better would the frame, wheels and finishing kit be for a couple of hundred quid ? Not much I’d bet. Personally I like 11spd, you can go for a wide ratio cassette without annoying ( to me anyway ) gaps.

Sorry but you need to have a search of this site, this topic has been done many times

why do people say this ? I’d have thought just about every bike related topic has been touched on at some time. Might as well just close the forum down to new threads then.

I wouldn’t go, especially with a toddler. Just say “no”. It’s a short word but some people seem to have never learned to say it.

For general riding around on and off road I’d definetly go for a 29er H/t with a fork lockout. It’ll make a pretty good tarmac mile muncher with the right tyres, pretty good for normal x/c playing about as well.
With the Boardman at that price I wouldn’t bother to look elsewhere, It’ll do everything you want and more, looking at loads of bikes and seeking internet opinions is sometimes helpful, but it can just make things more complicated and confusing than they need to be.

Shiftmate costs £30, you can get a xenon rear mech for about £25.

I think we need to forget about things like built infrastructure failing, and suing over things like that. If a poorly maintained bridge that the public have access to collapses people will sue. Doesn’t matter whether your on a bike, walking or driving a car.
Suing because you’ve fallen of your bike, without direct and clear recklessness or negligence of a third party is very wrong IMHO. It’s something I hope I’d never do.
But if your in a wheelchair and your family is facing poverty and a lifetime of struggle, then some lawyer say “it wasn’t your fault,I can get you £xxxx”. I’d like to think I’d pass the moral high ground test, but in all honesty I don’t know whether I would 🙁

This is a bit random, but does anyone know of a descent that’s at least 4 miles long, with no (or really minimal) uphill???

The Brinmore tramway all the way from the top down into Talybont on Usk is 4.5 mls. All down apart from about 200yds and that bits flat.

Went out just about 12.30pm, wouldn’t have ridden through Cardiff for anything, just up the Taff trail, Treforest, Talbot Green, Llantrisant road. Fantastically wet but traffic seemed pretty normal. I’m not going out in the evenings at the moment, really don’t feel safe with Christmas drunk drivers this time of year 🙁

The bars might be the same hight from the ground but they’ll be 10mm lower relative to the saddle. But the front end will be raised a bit so the bars will angle back to you a fraction. You might notice a difference for the first ride or two, but I’m sure you’d get used to it pretty quickly. I know I would.

I’m thinking of doing a couple of enduro’s next year. But maybe I won’t have time to fit any in. I’ve just bought a twinshock Motocross bike and I’m going to give racing that a go again 😀
    I’ll be 56 next season.

The purest form of cycling sport ? the purest form of cycling, is just simply riding your bike. Not using it to participate in a sport or pastime, but to just get on it to make a journey, no cycling gear, just normal clothing going about your business. Cheap efficient transport, that’s what bicycles were originally made for. It doesn’t really matter what bike, whatever you have to hand.

The owners manual clearly states 9cm is the minimum insertion into the frame. Email that pic to them and and go from there.

He’s an Irish Traveller. They have their views.

^^^^ This, ever seen “My big fat Gypsy wedding”. Every thing he says is coloured by his upbringing and background. If you listen to him he says it’s how he feels, not how everyone should feel. Just ignore him if he bothers you it’s not difficult.

I’ve got “uncutable” chains securing my bikes. But the last time someone got in my shed they cut through the bike frames and pulled them of the chain. Totally fecked the bike obviously but they’d still have loads of parts to sell 🙁

Just because some cars have problems with indicators, satnav positions ect, ect it doesn’t mean there can’t be a discussion about cycle lights. And yes some cyclists do use inappropriate lights 🙁

EDIT: Where did you go, taxi25? I thought you were pretty much sticking to the road now.

Castle Coch woods, road rides are horrible in wind and rain, it’s a lot more sheltered in the trees.

went out yesterday, good fun in the mud but got wet and cold after 90mins so went home a bit earlier than intended 🙁
