Depends on the person I guess.
For me, life without sport would be horrific, so no, doubt i’ll ever stop regardless of what injuries come along.

More or less how I feel. I’ve had a good run despite a horrendous list of injuries 😯 I’ll keep going until I absolutely can’t 🙁

I’d drive it back. Maybe you shouldn’t have to, but it would make the problem go away and your on holiday.

Have a feeling that if I don’t get it I’ll be using a stick within a couple of years. Which would be depressing……..

My consultant told if I didn’t have it done, I’d be seeing him for a complete knee replacement sooner rather than later. Some pro sportsmen have managed to function with ACL injuries, but usually only short term. I’d be interested to see how much arthritis they develop in the affected knee later in life.

A friend of my father was called Maurice. He was a great bloke very interesting and full of stories. He owned a Jaguar dealership and used to race cars as a hobby. This one in fact followed by a Ford GT40 !!!

If you intend to have an active life get it done. Tore mine at 39. Six years of physio and problems followed 🙁 Having the reconstruction was the best thing I ever did, went from not being able to race cyclo x (mini dislocations when jumping on and off the bike) to being able to racing Motocross at 56 😀

Me too really, though I don’t understand the point about the disc versions feeling dead. Have you ridden same bike in disc and non disc guise ?

    wilburt did say

Try £2k defy disc and rim bikes back to back would be my advice.

No reason for threads like this to become an argument. My current bike is the same as ( frame anyway ) as couple of teams are racing all over Spain at the moment, and despite being a middle age biffer very much agree with this.

You dont have to be Lewis Hamilton to enjoy a track day but you wouldn’t want to do it in a Mondeo.

@z1ppy. Op was asking about complete bikes not frame only, they seem to have some comp’s left.

Whatever you enter you can do the other on the day. Just make sure you tell them at the finish whether you did the short or long.

@ captain. Yup thats his bike, loves going on mass rides T/T and all that. Thing is I think it’s great he’s out enjoying the roads in his way and it’s a real shame he doesn’t feel the same about a different group 🙁

My soon to be brother in law has slowly been getting worse. Especially posting rubbish on facebook. I’ve tried challenging him but have given up, life’s to short to waste time with idiots !!

None. I’d starve to death before eating pork scratchings.

You wouldn’t though would you, people starve to death every day. Offer one if them a packet of scratchings and see if it gets turned down !!

If it’s served it’s purpose move onto something new. If you want to get it working you’ll have to strip it down and see what needs fixing. Discussion here.

Not sure a cyclist buying a new bike qualifies as a mid life crisis 😀 For my 4th MLC I got this

Another vote for Benidorm or somewhere near there on the Costa Blanca. Check out stage 20 of the Vuelta for ideas 😀

I dont think we ever reach the point where there is no actual debate, we are just making thinks up and the debate, such that we have, is about how shitty the debate is and who are the shittiest debaters

This in spades. I don’t contribute to political threads simply because I’m rubbish at arguing. Views such as I have won’t be changes by internet debate neither could I hope to change others to my point of view. As entertaining as this this thread has been it seems to have run it’s day 🙁

get a shorter one? or use an enduro collar to limit the travel.

As there’s no disadvantage to having one that goes down further than you use, why would you bother ?

Not sure any mtb’s could ever be called “classic”, just old really. Things move on so fast, they’re just consumables , I can’t think of any bike I’ve had that was better in any way to my current ones.

Time. Were as I’ve never broken my neck I’ve had a shocking number of injuries over the years !!! Both from mtb and motocross. Once you get the okay just start riding. Once you start to get fit your confidence will return, it always has with me anyway. Just take it step by step and you’ll forget the trauma. Just think of women and child berth, women often have more than one baby even though they swear the first one will be the last.

Mine after about six didn’t wear helmets, my son found them very uncomfortable ( he has an autistic spectrum disorder). A no helmet no ride policy would have ment no riding, end of. Mrs taxi and myself thought the benefits of cycling outwheighed the risk of not wearing a helmet.

If you can afford the extra go for the Cf. Nothing wrong with the alloy Canyon but the Cf will give you a subtlety nicer ride. I’ve ridden alloy and Cf Canyons and there is a difference, don’t believe people on here who say there isn’t . £400 better that’s for you to decide. Personally I always get the best bike I can afford, for me it adds to my enjoyment of cycling. For others just riding is important, they care little for what they ride. That’s great but some have a tendency to sneer a bit at others who like nice bikes and kit.

A broken wrist is painful but not life threatening. I’ve self evacuated with much worse. Providing the casualty was in a safe place with friends, and somewhere the ambulance could find him, not sure why the rest if the group couldn’t have carried on.
But I can see why the guide wanted to see him into the ambulance. It’s done now just look forward to the next trip.

Bit unfortunate with the injury. But if the van was free I would have given you a couple of extra runs. Even if I had to work through lunch.

If I was an office manager I’d ban whip rounds. Whats the point some always give and get nothing back, if you do get a payout it’s only your own money coming back to you. At worst as evidenced by this thread it becomes a spiteful popularity contest 🙁

No problem with a bit of noise, kids are running around til late on that site, but 3am is WAY beyond acceptable to be making noise.

Your right it isn’t, not sure why some people think it’s ok 😕 Perhaps it’s how they behave themselves.

It’s all about perception, a car goes past at 40mph and nobody thinks anything off it. But if you ride past at 30mph it seems fast for a bicycle so your riding like a lunatic.
Had a guy accuse me of being an idiot because I sprinted up to 35mph, but really it was because I was in the middle of the road and holding him up, despite it being a 30mph zone !!

Lizzie has been cleared to ride by everyone who actually counts. Those people who actually have all the facts to make that decision. 7 pages of mostly bile and ill informed rubbish from STW posters ( honourable exceptions not included ) I very much get the impression that some on here want successful athletes to fall foul of doping regs, guilty or not !! Why I don’t know, maybe be looking for flaws in others it somehow masks their own dull humdrum existence 🙁

Daffy you’ll be fine, those sort of speeds put you in the top few percent of non professional cyclists. Just knock of a couple of MPH and cruise around in 5.30 !!

The thing is it isn’t remotely funny. Unless you think gunmen entering a church and killing an elderly priest or bombing a mosque full of the wrong kind of muslims is funny. But I’m not offended if you do, just a little bit saddened.

Reminder too – trails around t-shack descent have also been trashed/blocked.
    (Or so I have read)

There’s lots of the more natural stuff left, but a lovely piece that must have taken ages to build has been wiped of the face of the earth.
Signs announce it was deemed unsafe, it wasn’t, just to man made and drew attention 🙁

There’ll be mud in the usual couple of places, but nothing you can’t blast through or find a way around. I’d only say it’s not worth doing in winter after loads of rain or a thaw !

Your over thinking this, it’s your first Mtb any 19-20 frame will be ok. Buy one you like the look of and get riding. If you can get one of those Board man pro’s in a 19″ jump at it !!

Sale of goods rights are all very well, but sometimes you have to fight for them. That can be stressful and time consuming !! Sounds like the Op just wants to ride his bike. Hence he’s already sent the fork to TFT. It’s probably what I’d do, along with not forgiving or forgetting !@@
