more on how you can sell a 50 lb bike to a market that believes a lighter bike is better.

Simple, stick an engine in it,

No idea what healthy weight is. Is there any suggestion his current weight is unhealthy?

This, how does your son feel ? Is he in anyway unwell. Some people are just thin and eat just enough for their needs. Most of us eat far to much 🙁

I’m enjoying it, harmless fun and the contestants seem to be having great fun.
As to the knockers I’ve seen countless mtbers stressing over a 3ft drop and never getting the courage to do it 😆

the MTB is infinitely more fun less po-faced along the way

Some of us manage to ride a road bike without being the least bit po-faced 😀 . But your right about choosing a mtb, easily the most versatile type if bike; especially with a change of tyres to suit the ride.

If the witness is prepared to make a statement the police might be interested, it would also help with any insurance claim.
Another angle, how much would it cost you to repair it yourself ?
If it was an older van and S/H parts were available I’d fix it myself. I’ve had bad experience with insurance claims that aren’t my fault. Somehow you allways end up getting shafted 😥

The problem is you can throw all the money you like at the NHS, but until stuff like PFI(2), shitty procurement deals and outsourcing to private companies at greater costs is dealt with it’s just not going to help in the long run

My Brothers an accountant in the HHS. October is when he says it’s going to go bust, in England anyway.

The referendum set the direction of travel, it now up to the government to plot the course. That is how our system works.

This is true, but if your a Tory hater or passionate remainer, “every” course the government takes will be wrong !!

Look at it another way – you tied up a skilled mechanic for half a day. What do you think a reasonable day rate is for a skilled mechanic? A plasterer is around £250, a decorator around £240, a chippy around £200 (quick Google) – so £105 for a half day isn’t all that bad.

Not sure where your getting these prices from, £500 a day for a plasterer, not around here unless your a chump 😆 And a “skilled” mechanic shouldn’t take half a day to build two wheels with new parts !! It doesn’t take me that long and I only build a few every year.

It’s to big for you James. The price is not to bad, at £500 I wouldn’t be worried about the repair if it had been done properly. But it’s to big, keep on looking.

My lbs would be £60-70. If you lace them up yourself its £15 a wheel to get them tensioned and trued. £105 is expensive, not sure why people are saying its reasonable because its not. Golden rule make sure you ask first.

I think I’ll stick to the biking forum. The folk on here appear to have had a mass lobotomy.

Probably the most sensible thing said on this thread 😀 I’ll join you to.

Got doored by a taxi in April last year after they had let a passenger get out while they were stationary in traffic.

obviously can’t comment on your particular incident. But passenger often just “get out” it’s not a question of them being let out, they just open the door. I’ve screamed at people not to leave the vehicle because I’ve felt it wasn’t safe, but they’ve just chucked some money at me and carried on 🙁
Generally it’s only London type cabs that have rear doors that the driver can lock and unlock from inside the vehicle.

Now, I wouldn’t pay a bill like that to fix a car worth a few hundred pounds. Put the money into another Volvo that someone else has spent loads of money on.

Well, it’s ok to vote for them or not as this is a democracy. But it would be nice if people made up their mind one way or another, about this and all other political issues, using actual real facts, yes.

your absolutely right of course. But it’ll never catch on, not here 😆

“His card machine was non existent and he asked to round the £7.xx fair up to £20 to “save his change”.

Word of warning. black cabs are not legally obliged to give change unless agreed before hand. Its up the the customer to tender the correct fare, he could have kept the £20.

Random thought: do drivers not need business insurance?

You need specific taxi insurance. Some accounts require public liability insurance as well.

Isn’t it Mike Taxi you need for Cardiff airport

1,600 taxi drivers in Cardiff, many of them called Mike all of whom will take you to the airport.

Another random thought: these angry black cab drivers, why don’t they get their own app that does the same thing only for their firms?

All Cardiff taxi firms now have their own App. But not specifically for angry drivers.

@captain. Lots of people never use taxis. But many don’t have a choice. Today at least half of my fares have been for people who can’t drive or use other public transport due to disability/mobility issues. To them taxis are a lifeline.
And we aren’t all crap drivers, some are but then you always get people who are poor at their job in every walk of life.

Unless I could clearly see what circuit its been wired into, and I was confident I could isolate that circuit I wouldn’t touch it. It doesn’t sound as if your sure. Probably best to call in an electrician.

The driver was a nice bloke, but his driving was rather aggressive even if he wasn’t.

should have downloaded the capital app

You might have got me, and I drive like Miss Daisy. You can pre pay or use your card in car with the driver.

Maxtorque – they can probably find recruits with US passports and easy access to guns.

I don’t think they can, certainly not easily, otherwise you’d be seeing attacks on American soil much more frequently.
The travel ban is just a bone to his supporters. I very much doubt it’ll make American’s safer, but it might make some of them “feel” safer. Does anyone honestly think Trump and the people who elected him care about world opinion on this (the world’s left opinion mostly) or about our petitions.

I worked with a guy whose name was Kenneth. He had a brother, who also was called Kenneth.

I know a bloke in the same predicament, Strangely he’s a Kenneth as well. He’s not from the isle of Lewis but his wife is !!
He likes to be called Dave.

He is based in the US. His family live there. Not being there at the moment means he can’t go.

Just to correct the Mo thing, Mo Farrah is a British citizen with a British passport, he doesn’t have dual nationality or citizenship with Somalia. The rules allow him to travel freely to America to train, live and be with his family.

The ebike hate comes out on virtually every thread related to ebikes these days

I don’t think it’s hate so much, more a reaction to this sort of opinion.

Seriously though, there’s no sense in moaning about it, like all the other innovations in 12 months time when the mags start talking about “mechanical bikes” with a face like someone’s waving a shitty stick under their nose it’s all over – it’ll be 50lbs assisted bikes all around.

That certainty that ebikes will take over the planet 😆
They won’t there is a market for them but it’ll always be a very small percentage of overall Mtb sales.

The rim strip weighs more than standard rim tape for tubes, so you have to add that in if you are using it. But yes it is somewhat lighter too.

I use one wrap of stans tape with tubless compatible rims, probably weighs a few grams. My Nukeproof had tubes fitted from new, saved 120gms an end going tubless.

Still, don’t let common sense get in the way of your silly trolling.

why was the point being made silly trolling ? It seemed perfectly reasonable to me. Muslims aren’t a single entity, some unaffected might be upset but many others won’t be.

Still, we wouldn’t want any inconvenient facts to get in the way of outraged virtue-signalling leftie rhetoric, would we?

I’m pretty neutral politically, but on this thread the above is becoming all to true, IMHO.

Tubes all the way for me…can’t be bother with the faff.

obviously if your happy with tubes carry on. But honestly it isn’t a faff once you’ve got the technique sorted. I can’t remember the last time I had a puncture, saves a bit of weight, and how and were I ride I needed 40psi to avoid pinch flats 🙁 running high twenties now and my bikes feel so much better 😀

Before I did an Alps trip I did this loop a couple of times. I know it’s in S.Wales but bring your mtb and make a weekend of it by going to Afan as well.
Start wherever you want in the Afan valley, head up the Bwlch through Abergwynfi, drop down into Nant-y-moel. Turn around and head back up but go straight over into Treorchy. Carry on up the vally to Treherbert and take the Rhigos road to Hirwaun. All you’ve got to do then is retrace your route, back up the Bwlch and down into the Afan valley 😀 . It’s far and away the most Alpine ride you’ll get in the UK, IMHO of course.

£350 for a main dealer is what I’d expect. About £250 for an independent using branded but not genuine parts.
Me I buy stuff like this and do it myself. Apart from a tool to wind the calliper piston back in all you need is normal workshop tools.

I’ve always liked light bikes. For me they are better. Now I’m not racing it doesn’t matter whether they are a quicker or not just that I enjoy the quick responsive feel they give.

Bloody hell, is that how much holidays cost.

Holidays can be whatever cost you want them to be. Just booked 10 days in a popular Spanish resort for Mrs Taxi and myself, £750 in July. Always use Booking.com and easyjet.

Just because he was over-charged, doesn’t mean the price charged wasn’t unreasonable

IMHO I reckon it is unreasonable. I also reckon kicking of and swearing is unreasonable as well.

Kicking off and swearing not cool !! But as it happens £27 for the job was overcharging, something that so many on this thread seem to have missed. Or maybe they didn’t but just wanted to join the queue to put the boot in to the Op.

    taxi25

Wish I could open a bicycle repair business where the job as described could be charged at £27 !!. It’s to much, £15 tops. But fair comment to say the OP should have bought the cable and fitted himself.
