As usual plenty of opinions, some appear to be informed, possibly from people who actually know what their talking about . But as posters don’t explain their credentials it’s impossible to differentiate  fact from fiction. Op get your parents to seek independent legal advice, then step away from the mess completely.

Sorry to hear about your wife’s injury ☹ But at least the dog owner was prosecuted. There’s always a tendency to downgrade offences if there’s a doubt the more severe offence is provable.

But on another note can we have a monitorium on “dog bit me” threads. Surely everyone has had their say by now !!

I don’t hate e-mtb’s as such, but some e-mtb owners or wanabe owners !!

    It’s mainly jealousy.

Almost all objections to ebikes are born of a lack of intelligence.

I’m guessing the reason some people don’t like e-bikes is the same reason why some (usually angry, bitter) people don’t like being overtaken in their cars.  No point trying to analyse it, some people are just dicks.

I’ve filled it in as well. Probably a waste of time ☹ But better than just whinging on here about stuff.

There are grey areas in cycling regulations that we will certainly consider exploring for advantage, but we will never endeavour to go beyond them.”

Didn’t Shane Sutton say as much ? I know where your coming from but brutal honesty doesn’t sit well in the world, and unfortunately gives amunition to those who’d work against them.  I think Sky are carefull not to tell provable lies, but skirt around certain things a bit to much. Some of the false statements they’ve made can be put down to speaking before thinking, or investigating the question properly. The jiffy bag comes to mind with this.

Price unknown yet but Sonders Ti broken road retails for £999, and their Ti frames come with a 10 year warranty.

It does look nice and ticks all the boxes for my upcoming summer purchase.  But I bet it comes in above my sort of £1000 frame budget. ☹☹

I prefer to wrap bottom up because when leaning on the top corners/hoods, my hand pressure is smoothing down the free edge  of the tape, rather than peeling it up.

This is the right way Conty and Merckx are just wrong 😨

E-mtb’s exist so some people will want to race them. But it would have to be in their own class. If it became popular enough you’d need all the different ability and age classes as well. I just don’t think the demand will be that great. Exceptions aside I don’t see most of the able bodied E-mtb riders being that interested in XC type racing.

My 2018 legs for the ones I had back in 1992. That aside I’d fit a suspension fork, it was the single biggest improvement in mtbing for me.

Just allow them in the fun cat, fun cat should just be for fun anyway with no prizes etc so it shouldn’t make any difference.

😂😂😂😂  You’ve ever done a fun race have you !!

It’s not “iwthin the rules” if you’re applying for a TUE to treat an illness/symptom that you don’t actualy have.

    It’s flat out cheating.

Nothing in the report said that. Just suggested by a credible but “anonymous soure !!

I tried briefly, and the attitude was that they didn’t want to learn, as they were getting on just fine working it out for themselves.

They’ve been through a succession of coaches

Just leave them to it then. You can lead a horse to water and all that !!

I thought there were loads of people doing this on my local trails but after a while I twigged that it was actually the same small group of people doing it often, rather than a lot of different people.

Very much this, around my way the police do respond. Bikes are confiscated and can be difficult to get back 😂😂

“Definitely possible. My last transfer was fee free.

Indeed, seems you can get one with a new card application. I normally just move balances between cards I already have.

“and never pay a balance transfer fee.”

Interesting, I’ve never seen a balance trsnsfer without a fee, normally about 2-3%

“Let me get this straight.  Your consultant wanted to see your wife regarding your vasectomy.”

Yes he certainly did. As far as I know it’s still the same. The whole process was us being seen as a couple, and it being a joint decision. For me it wasn’t a problem because it was exactly that. But I get your point I’ve never heard of men being involved with their partners sterilisation or hysterectomys. But perhaps their more often done on medical grounds not just as a means of birth control.

No regrets here either, the pill had started disagreeing with Mrstaxi and other methods weren’t really satisfactory ☹ so a no brainer really.

“Mine was fine, the only side-effect being that I can’t have children

“But if what you meet the right woman?”

If she wants to have kids with me then she’s not the right woman…”

Just curious on this. Did you have it done on the NHS ? I got the impression that they weren’t keen on doing vasectomy’s on single men without children. My consultant wanted to see Mrstaxi and the whole thing was very much a joint enterprise.

In case it all gets to much and you go into KFC withdrawal. This allegedly is the secret recipe. Its pretty good but you can’t exactly replicate the taste in your own kitchen.

Do you always use insulting terms to describe people you don’t know, just because they might disagree with your opinion ?

Nope, “some people” thought it was Bull. I’m enjoying it, great fun but don’t take it seriously 😁

Thats all pretty reasonable poly and in many circumstances I’d agree completely. But stepchildren can be tricky, and the OP has indicated there’s been trouble before and his wife tends to side with her son. Yes he might be happy to sign a contract because he wants the van. He might very well at this point belive he’ll keep to it’s conditions. But at some point the old resentments he has to his stepfather could rear up. Then he’ll believe his syepfather “owes” him the van and should have just given it to him. If that happens the OP must be prepared to enforce the contract with all the trouble it will cause. A simple you can have the van and pay me x amount for x months or I’ll take it back and a hand shake is all I’d do with a family member. If I felt that wasn’t enough then it would be sorry go and see a bank for the money.

A contract is only worth anything if you intended to sue him if he doesn’t pay. Would you do that ? If yes I’d definitely set one up. If no don’t bother. Personally with the history between yourselves I’d tell him to borrow the money from a bank, that’s what their there for.

“My take on this for what its worth being a cyclist and dog owner. If you see a dog and its not under control slow down or stop until the hazard has passed.”

I follow this advise myself. Never had a problem with dogs, despite riding along the taff trail (dog infested multi use path) a couple of hundred times a year.

“I think it’d be better just to replace the bearings and move on.”

Me to. It sucks but unless you want to send the wheel back and perhaps be off the bike for weeks, just swap the bearings out yourself. It’s good advise to expect nothing of planet-x. If it’s cheap enough buy from them, but cost in doing this sort of thing yourself.

I’d just take the bike out of the equation. 10% slower is you putting out 10% less power (or howether that works) for whatever reason. The Dude being lighter and stiffer will be faster. If it bothers you try to find out why your powers down.

Moths !!! I put the small holes in my merino base layers down to those little blighters 😬 They will only munch on natural fibers, so get some moth balls ore store merino in a lidded box or something similar.

”  You might not care, and it might be worth it in the tech stuff, but I still think you’re less efficient.”

I do aswell, I know again it’s only anecdotal but I’m very sensitive to my power output. I never bimble and usually tend to ride at a given pace and cadence.
Riding a lap of say Cwmcarn, I’ll be more tired with flats than clips. It’s not loads but I can feel it.

“Jesus why are e-mtb’ers so defensive?”

It’s always the same with zealots, can’t stand it if people don’t agree with “their” point of view.

“This is when I went to Swinley and spent the whole time just doing the Labyrinth trails and the other off piste over and over again. No way could I do all the climbing back up so many times on anything other than the ebike.”

So you absolutely wouldn’t be eroding the trails more than if you were on a normal mtb then. 😂

In these discussions we should always differentiate between E-bikes in general and E-mtb’s.

“Trading aid for sex is one of the central allegations.”

If this was proved, and Oxfam did cover it up, they deserve every bit of criticism and more. But there’s definitely a sense of politics about the whole thing. 🙁

“Funny how quite a few of the ant 29er mob from back then are now riding them.”

E-mtb’s are nothing like another wheel size or change in standard. Fitting a motor to a bicycle and it being it still being accepted as cycling is a seismic change. But I’m starting to sound like a record stuck on auto so I’ll just leave it now.

“Also unless shagging prostitute’s was part of their mission briefing it’s not really an organisation problem. If you got caught doing that on your business trip would it be you or your boss in trouble?”

I’ll accept Oxfam being a special case. I’m sure they’ve run programs that actively help women lead lives away from prostitution, so I can see how it wouldn’t sit right.
But do normal buisness have a no paying for sex policy. Providing it was in a person’s spare time, their own money and no laws were broken. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but then I’m massively out of touch with the modern work place.
