Apart from people standing in the middle of the trail, everything else can be easily  ignored. Just do your own thing and enjoy yourself. It’s what I’ve been doing for years!!

I normally cut a swath  through them using whatever exposed parts of my body are available !!!

Tried and tested by us idiots for millennium.

Mtb ride. a good place to start would be Tongwynlais, make your way over to theTaff trail and head North . I’ll be out for a couple of hours Saturday and could show you a few trails.

the point of an ebike is that because it makes riding a bit easier/more fun, it is more likely to actually get used.

I’m probably as anti e-bike as anyone on here. But I can grasp how difficult it must be for a 24st man to get any enjoyment out of mtbing on a regular bike. But I will say if the Op’s friend really wants to shift weight e-biking alone isn’t going to do it. Exercise is going to need the balance of a proper change in diet. Perhaps see a Dr for advise and to check the heart as well. Then good luck to him.

I’ve never heard of a rim being manufactured oversize by mistake. If yours has been it’s a first for me. Some can be tight though, as said how much rim tape do you have fitted ?

You need to differentiate between news stories and human interested stories.  News outlets usually through a human interest story in just to break up the endless doom and gloom. Spoiled strawberry pavlovas are just a continuation of this great tradition.

The village htl. Cardiff fits your bill. Its at jct32 of the M4 so you’ll be driving past it anyway.

was unable to facilitate the OP’s demands in this instance

I read it as the Op was cool that no.1 couldn’t do the job. But got upset that no.1 warned no.2 of the job. Did we read the same thing ?

. If he can’t do it he should be happy his mate has got some work seeing as he’d had another job fall through. Now he’s just screwed his mate over who hasn’t got any work for that week. ****!

This is my take on it. I know loads of tradesmen, and knowing the job was urgent most would have just recommended no.2 of their own bat.

He’s probably quite happy to be off that list, as you seem like hard work to be honest. Meh.

Made me laugh ! Op seems pretty reasonable, just wants to get someone on the job. You know buisness.

Sir has not read Moby Dick, I’ll wager

“Call me Ishmael” best bit, don’t bother with the rest !!

Loads of good stuff mentioned but,

“Cider house rules” is also well worth a read.

I have an aversion to wasting food. So rather than it going to waste I’d pack it up and take it home. But if I thought other’s could benefit I’d only eat a modest amount and leave plenty to share. Generally I try not to over eat or drink, the fact that it’s free has little impact on my consumption .

You’d need some pretty tough material to hold up with sliding down the road, and lycra is just so comfortable . But manufacturers could have a go if demand was high enough. Perhaps they don’t think there’s a market ?

Sorry to come over all Socialist but personal desire should be taking second place to the greater good.

Thats all very well, but except in the most extreme cases who decides what is the “greater good” ?

locking up a wheel even for a short accidental stretch of trail was looked upon as a criminal

Serious question, was this ever a thing? Really? I’m glad I missed it.

It wasn’t really. Just the usual small group of self righteous guardians of the trail. In fact the same as now.

But I do agree to much unapproved digging doesn’t help with access.

being positive about other people’s accomplishments is a normal part of being an empathic human being.

Absolutely !! But when I cone on here I have to constantly remind myself how many “non normal” posters there are.

But a great thread on the whole. Lot’s of insight into problems I’ve  have had in my own marriage.  STW at its best 😁

    6. X-rays are sometimes the only way to spot structural damage in carbon – and aluminium bars – and maybe worth getting done with an expensive carbon bar if you’ve crashed it.

Were would you get this done ? And id you could how much would it cost !!

With what we know that seems the right result. But for most people,  taking a life in almost any circumstance is no small thing. I hope he doesn’t struggle with what happend and can get on with his own life without any negative side affects.

I like my Rocket Rons. Don’t feel slower than racing ralphs but cope with muddy stuff a bit better.

But if you’ve got concerns about longevity super light fast tyres might not be your best choice !!

I have trained in martial arts  for years and its the last resort for me ;I am fairly confident i can win  yet certain I can live if we dont fight.- why risk it are your possessions really worth dying or killing for ?

100% . I remember Andy Mcnab, or someone similar being asked what he’d do if someone approached him with a knife, “run away” came straight out.

Not having a go at anybody but if you’ve experienced/seen the consequences of serious violence, you’ll know avoiding it unless it’s much a very, very last resort is always the best option.

Let’s see how this plays out but from the current evidence I think the 78 year old man who has successfully defended his home against 2 attackers , at least 1 of whom was less than half his age and armed with a screwdriver deserves much respect .

At this point I tend to agree. Lets see if anything else comes up.

Reasonable is all very well, but in tbe heat of the moment it’s very hard to judge. Homeowners are usually given any benifit of the doubt. Good article here.

Reading between the lines… definitely doesn’t seem a straightforward self defence against a burglar.

Not seeing anything between the lines as yet. The arrest seems to be standard practise with this kind of incident. If everything is as it seems to be ( and that is an if) I’d be very suprised if the pensioner is charged.

LBS generally aren’t no win no fee.

A fair few are a bit though. If they take a job in and fail ( removing a siezed bottom bracket maybe) they don’t charge. They loose a bit of time but profession pride means they won’t charge for failure.

Can’t believe anyone would take this job on. Do it wrong and you ruin a frame, do it right and get paid pennies.

Reaming a seat tube is a standard worksop job, thats why lbs’s have the tool. I’d imagine they though there was a burr or two that needed cleaning up. I’d imagine the OP thought the same. When I worked in a Lbs we probably wouldn’t have made a charge in this case. But it’s probably fair to make some charge. I don’t think the Op is off to think it’s not right to charge him the full amount. But it’s only £20 live and learn.

My Op was meant to amuse not offend, if you took offence then that’s your issue.

Thing is if you ridicule a religion, you ridicule those that have faith in that religion. The two things are inseparable in my view. Why would you do that, it isn’t remotely funny. As someone said like children talking about sex !!

Well the battery on my g shock has finally given up the ghost (10yrs) I’m kinda pleased as I’ve never really liked it’s over complicated face and never being able to turn of the 12pm alert beeb 😬. Not going to fit a new battery so going to get something new. Any recommendations, luminox maybe ?

Backing off a bit is normal surely?

Of course it is. But if you read the review it’s backing of to almost no power. So almost no uphill shifting!!

When Pinkbike did a poll of who had broken a rear mech, very few said they had.

That I remeber I’ve broken 3 whilst riding mtb’s since 1987. It’s not something that I really consider.

But others ride differently or just like different/new things. It’s good that the choice is there, even if it’s at a price 😨

56cm will give you a more racy ride. 58 if you want to be a bit more upright without loads of headset spacers. I prefer to reach out rather than down, at 6ft I like 58cm frames more or less slamed with a 120mm stem ( most bikes)

It’s a definite no from me. I like descending, but love charging into short climbs and changing down as I loose momentum. The no changing under power just kills it for me !!!

    P.s

I thought the review was very fair. I wish all reviews were as good.

I have no opinion on anything else, but slagging off the tester for liking a different fit to you on the bike?

Me neither, but if a tester likes a fit far different from the norm their opinion isn’t really helpfull to anyone else.

I will be keeping my current one.

But when it runs out, if it’s a British passport you’ll be getting a nice new blue one. Vive la vie !!

It sounds like she is going to make a mess of her life anyway.

People split up all the time, sometimes for the better. Unless you know both parties how can you possibly come to this conclusion?

Were you both paying the mortgage equally?  If so then for me its she gets her deposit back, Her family get their gifted money back.  Any profit left is 50/50.

This exactly my take on the matter. No idea if it’s legally correct, but it’s what I’d feel to be the moral and fair outcome.
