I’m not doubting it’s interesting to know where you come from but in some people it seems to develop in extremely unhealthy ways. Don’t let it become an obsession.

Definitely, be yourself first and foremost. I’m Welsh but both sides of my family came here from Scotland and Wiltshire in the late 19th century. Before that god knows, my sister is doing a family tree thing, interesting certainly but only that.

Frankly, those people who are continuously having a pop at Geetee are saying much more about what is lacking in their lives than his.

Completely agree, my first post on this was thinking how odd it was that some people got so worked up about him. I still think its odd. I’ve put it down to some on the left’s hysterical hatred of anything that could be construed as right wing. Some of your posts.

Saying Geetee has ‘issues’ is being incredibly diplomatic. The fact that his constant evangelising of the rapey shyster he thinks is ‘normal’ probably tells you everything you need to know

This especially stinks. What exactly is “everything we need to know” binners ?

Hence my point about the No Win No Fee types.

Who only take on cases that they feel are a definite win. That or they make you pay for an insurance policy in case they don’t.

If you want your son living with you full time you could go for that. But expect a massively bitter and expansive battle, who would benefit from that ? In the great scheme of things 150mls isn’t that far. Certainly not convenient for you, but you “could” manage your current access. I reckon a court would agree as well. People move their kids halfway across the world and the courts are fine with that. 150 miles Pft !! Good luck, often life doesn’t seem fair mostly because it isn’t, especially for fathers separated from their children. 🙁🙁

P.s. Just seen nickc’s post. Its spot on.

All for nothing other than some misguided notion of wanting to do well when the reality is nobody on the planet is ever going to look up on roots and rain for how I did.

Racing isn’t for you fair enough. But there’s nothing wrong in trying to do well, or at least you best. And you do it for yourself, because your right nobody else will care whever you came 112 or 113.

he could stop being so vague and come out repeatedly and unambiguously that he is opposed to the Incel and other nutters.

When does anyone ever do that though. The abuse surrounding him flows both ways, who’s speaking out against the abuse coming from the left ? Ultimately were all responsible for our own actions. I doubt anything he could say would make much difference, and it wouldn’t fit in with his take responsibility, stand up for yourself message.

P.s I’m no Peterson fan, I only heard about him on here and was curious as to why some people had got their nickers in a twist.

Overall I find his message quite positive but with some cringeworthy moments. I can see how he’s upset some on the left. But so what, he’s not a politician or anyone who has control over anyone’s life but his own. You can follow his veiws with interest or ignore, perhaps the latters best if he offends.

Then you’d think he’d spend more of his time voicing that opinion, rather than just ignoring the issue.

I’d agree, I was probably being naive about his concern over the abuse directed at his detractors. But it’s not common for any person or orginization to do much more than put out a blanket statement abhoring such abuse. Political parties are prime examples.

The level of hate on here and from other places is more than a bit odd and sumwhat disturbing.

If you want a proper demonstration of hate I would suggest you look at some of those holding him on a pedestal.

I’d obviously agree, but why sink to their level, try and be better. Which I’d guess is what Peterson would say. I’d imagine he’s more embarrassed and annoyed about the wackjobs than anyone else.

and as this one has come up before… which cultures is he referring to?

He’ll be reffering to Muslim cultures. As that’s what would be most relivant to problems affecting western society. But you knew that didn’t you. Again it’s an observation, Google the subject. You’ll mostly find articles by Muslim writers discussing the “negative” affects of polygamy in the modern world.

In fairness what is wrong with a man or woman shagging as many people as possible?

Because it doesn’t make for stable relationships. Do you honestly believe that a society doesn’t benefit from the majority living in good relationships ?

I’m not saying that people shouldn’t have the right to choose how they live,  only that a rejection of stable loving relationships is pure nonsense.

Some great racing, and how unfortunate for Holland !!! But saying that if Searle hadn’t DNF with two laps to go my quick calculations make the UK winning. But that’s all whativery. Well done France 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

Hang on, it’s part of the plan to pander to the alt right and we don’t get to ask some questions there….

But the left isn’t really asking questions, just vilifying…….mostly. The bits I’ve heard from him as others have said is just stating the obvious, how things are really (at least how many see it). I suppose his appeal is that many people haven’t given much thought to the way of the world so it seems like a revelation.  I’m not sure why some people get so wound up about him !! He’s just another talking head flogging books. The level of hate on here and from other places is more than a bit odd and sumwhat disturbing. Do people really go through life so angry, it must make things so hard 🙁

So what’s the benefit of steel FS over carbon or ali on a trail come XC type bike?

That was the op’s original question tmb467. And it can’t really be answered. Steel can be used to make a great bike as can other materials. Everything is just personal preference.

All the chat though is just how forums are, “talking shops” where people can argue and express opinion, that’s the point of them.

all I really wanted to know was if the weight burden of a steel FS was worth it in terms of ride and performance in the ‘real world’.

It doesn’t work like that. Cotic make nice riding bikes that happen to be made of steel. Other manufacturers make nice riding bikes out of other materials. I don’t think steel bikes are inherently superior, it’s just another choice.

So did they stop using aluminium?

No, they never went back to steel. Just refined their alloy frames up untill today. The quote was just to illustrate how a bit of flex is a good thing. Compliant frames can be made out of most materials. So can overly stiff ones. Steel as a material does have some inherent characteristics, Cotic as a maker if steel frames obviously use this as a marketing tool.

At they end of the day just about everyone who’s riden one thinks their very good bikes, and material aside thats all that matters 😎😎

Obviously to much flex is a bad thing, but so is completely rigid, Honda made such a mistake with the 1997 CR250 the worlds first alloy framed production MX bike.

In 1996 the MX press could not wait to get their hands on the all-new machine. Early tests sugarcoated the bike somewhat, calling its ridiculously ridged chassis “pro oriented” and awesome for Supercross. In reality, the Honda was an overbuilt beast that transmitted every pebble on the track directly to the rider’s hands. Honda made certain the alloy frame was not going to break, but they ruined the rest of the bike in the process. The beefy frame acted like a big tuning fork, funneling every ounce of vibration from the motor right up through the CR’s handlebars. On hardpack soil the CR was unsettled and never felt firmly planted to the track. In deep loam, the bike performed better and felt more at home. Turning was typical mid-nineties Honda, sharp in the tight sections and nervous at speed. In addition to being unforgiving, the harsh frame gave the bike a “dead” feel in the bumps. Instead of floating over obstacles, the  “97 CR250R “thudded” through them. The CR’s chassis may have looked high tech, but its performance was strictly mid-evil in ’97.

But with all that I reckon Cotic chose steel because thats what they do, make steel mountain bikes. (For the most part)

It’ll be cheaper and easier to get a new BB. Tell us what new chainset you have and I’m sure someone can tell you what BB you need. If your worried about fitting it I can do that for you 👍

    taxi25

What is the the chainset you want to fit ?

It doesn’t matter what BB you have, you’ll need to change it to match the Chainset.

If the CHS option seems to expensive just get a flight to Alicante, November is of season in the Benidorm area so loads of cheap apartments. Rent or take your own bike and head for the hills. I go over there once or twice a year there’s some great riding.

In regards to men, the results reveal 30 year old men clock up 95% more offences compared to 18 year old male drivers, at 8,258 compared to 258.

I assume that’s corrected for the number of 18yo who have or have access to cars?

I bet it isn’t, probably far many 30yr old drivers than 18yr olds. But I’d still say like for like a 30 yr old is more likely to DD.

Basically with an e-bike you’d get loads more runs in,

And that won’t cause more erosion ?

I know the place you mean, it’s all rooty dirt tracks already.

but that doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to comment if they think it weird.

Can’t for the life of me see where I’ve implied anybody can’t comment about my opinion ?

But I find it weird that that someone on a cycling forum thinks its weird that someone else isn’t a fan of certain types of motorized bicycles 🤔🤔

This is a really odd attitude.

Why do you come on here NG ? I come come to experience different opinions and occasionally share my own. All of us have a different view on life.

I’m nearly 60 and I’m writing this thread sat in my MX van waiting to race tomorrow. I won’t be able to do this much longer so I’ll give it up, I’ve no wish to somehow make it easier. Because for me then there’ll be no point. One day the same thing might happen with mountain biking, and I’ll feel the same about that.

As I said different people different outlooks and opinions, I enjoy learning about all of them even if I disagree !!

What do you have against enduro bikes?

Nothing against enduro bikes, I just don’t like E-mtb’s. Is that all right with you geex ? Or does everyone have to be on the same page as you.

I always love it when E-mtb fans describe people with a different opinion as “haters”. When time and time again on these threads the actual hate comes from the same small group E-mtb zealots 😂😂

    taxi25

First of I wish every thread would differentiate between E-bikes as in hybrid/utility personal transport devices and E-mtb’s, especially the gnarpoon long travel trail/enduro things.  The first group is great the second group not  so much.

    I reckon.

I see them banned from all but specific trail centres in a few years time.

Which as far as I’m concerned will be fine, because for every responsible user there’ll be another who de-restricts one and rides like a knob, because thats how people are.

Overall, I find it hard not to disagree with this.

I think they’re a crap piece of overpriced marketing BS, but if you want to drink the Koolaid then go ahead. Is it more fun if it’s easier, or you can do more laps, or can go twice as far? Or are they an example of a lot of things that are wrong with our current ‘me first’ society.

I’ll never ever buy a E-mtb, as I get older I’ll ride less or not at all, everything ends one day. 🙁

Its about a worrying and excessive sentence handed out to three protesters who had broken no other laws and caused no criminal damage

I agree, if camping on top of a lorry was so terrible why didn’t the police remove them immediately ?

sadmadalan – we do know however how fracking has worked in the US and that leads us to be very cautious / paranoid about it

Cautious certainly but not paranoid.  Fracking in the UK will be quite different from the US.

How do you prove that a letter arrive late though ?

You don’t as such, it’s up to the police to show that it was posted to you so in the normal course of events you’d get it within 14days. There’s a date on the NIP, if its say 12 or 13 days after the the offence, you can reasonably claim you didn’t get it in time.

It’s not up to the police to prove that the NIP reached the registered keeper within 14 daysIt is up to the police to be able to prove that in the normal course of events, the NIP would have arrived at the last known address of the registered keeper within the 14 day time limit

I bought a frame a few years ago

Whats a few years ? A warranty is at the manufacturers discretion. A few years might put you outside any statutory rights. Not sure you’ll get any money back, so hang in there and see what they come up with.

Is the bike still in your possession, if so a bit of bubbling paint won’t stop it from being ridden.

    thinking…

It’s there primarily to provide an opportunity for you to sell those unwanted bits and pieces that you have no need for

Not to sell bits and pieces that you’ve bought cheaply for the purpose of selling on.

This is obviously the intent and should be clear. The problem is how do you differentiate from a serial bike builder/part buyer who buys and sells loads of stuff, but is just turning the money over on bikes and bits. And someone who is a trader as per the second part of the quote?

Low level trading has gone on here for ever really. It’s a bit to late to put the Genie back in the bottle.

I don’t think you can use the term profiteering in the context of used toys and toy parts. Thats for scarce food or medicines. The only fair price is the agreed price between buyer and seller. What a seller paid for something is nobodies buisness but his own.

Having said that unless the forks had been painted to such a professional standard that they matched a “factory finish” it should have been disclosed.  Problem is the seller feels he was messed around by the buyer who only wants a refund because he’s found something cheaper. The paint is just an excuse to leverage one.

the generator’s not free actually ‘it’s a giveaway’ is a colloquialism for dead cheap

Your right it’s true, but the OP said “giving” which is pretty different, and would cause confusion especially with literally minded people like myself.

Hopefully Ambrose can shed light on whether the van driver was selling the generator cheaply, or actually giving it away .

    taxi25

No idea what was going on, but…

he is giving away a small generator if i wanted it.

    Is not…

Why else would they try to sell something to a stranger in a random car park?

Doesn’t anybody read threads anymore ?
