Things like this drive me mad! I remember the first time I came off my first “proper” mtb and scratched the top tube. Was livid for a week.

Read this and my mouth fell open 😦😦😦. This whole thread is of the wall batshit mental, you guys/girls aren’t mtb’ers your just weirdo shiny toy collectors. But heyho just carry on 👍👍

de radicalise and show some compassion,

Is there any evidence de radicalising works on un willing subjects ? Compassion has to be tied with justice, she’s a British citizen so let her come back and try her for any crimes committed.

To be brutally honest in comparison to living rough in the winter for a month it’s not all that.

I’d find living rough for a month easier. I’ve spoken to plenty of ex and current rough sleepers. People are amazingly resiliant and adaptable. One bloke has had his own place for a couple of years now and still sleeps on the floor next to his bed, he just can’t get on with it.
Whereas the cumulative toll of doing a marathon every day would break me pretty quickly 🙁

don’t see why the whole school should bend because of one child.

    Because that child could die.

If one of my children was so allergic to something that they might die if they came in contact with it in school. Something that everyone else was fine with, I’d seriously think about not sending them to school and think about alternative educational arrangements.

I saw this a while and thought about going it on my gravel bike. Enduro will be overkill IMHO

It wouldn’t be my first choice, the gap climb and descent are very rocky. Everyone I know who did the Brecon Beast on a CX bike said something else would have been more fun.

I don’t care what pressure you think is on you. Meekly accepting your employer’s unreasonable demands will not help you. Work out how to tell them to **** off with their requests for your unpaid time (in the nicest possible way of course)

This has always been my life philosophy. But in the real world it doesn’t always work as you’d like. I’ve said f$@!k you more times than I care to remember, guess what I now happily drive a taxi. That’s ok for me but if everyone had the same attitude who’d educate our children, care for the sick, or even collect the rubbish.
Somewhere there’s a balance between being a bitch to your occupation and a hackneyed cynic. But at some point enoughs a enough don’t accept the guilt trip and take a stand.

I was just saying it seemed about right, which your own data agrees with. If you can read.

It would appear not 😳 apologies for my lack of comprehension.

Not getting into an argument with teachers about how many hours they work, you above anyone should know. But

as a teacher – i’m not sure how 7:15am-4:30pm AT wor and then working at home is 6hrs per day

This adds up to 15.25 hours a day or 76.25 hours per week. Thats not this.

I would say that it is normal, maybe slightly more than average but not by much. I work 7.30 to about 4.30 most days, add in later finishes at least 1 a week and bits and bobs at home and its about me

Maths not you speciality AA. A bit of googling suggests averages of 48-55 which when you allow for longer holidays works out to 39-44 hours over the year,( those are averages, I’m sure there’s exceptions)
I think teachers are great and you work hard but no more than a lot of other people who don’t constantly harp on about their work load.

P.s I should go back to school to learn how to do multiple quotes 😳😳

It’s an incredibly vague survey. Full of maybe’s especially relating to the women’s statements themselves. But I’m not suprised that prisoners women and men have been subject to such high levels of violence. People who develope criminal records tend to live in social circles that contain a disppraportinat number violent people. It’s a bit chicken and egg about whether violence and it’s trauma leads to criminal behaviour or criminal behaviour leads to violence ?

as a teacher – i’m not sure how 7:15am-4:30pm AT wor and then working at home is 6hrs per day

But that’s not normal for teaching as a whole though. I appreciate some in a particular role might do that for a time but it’s not typical through out the profession. Making a point by using worst case scenario’s is a poor strategy.
    P.s
Good luck with the job search OP. Good teachers have plenty to offer in just about any job field.

So my question is- how do people view teachers/ex-teachers in the private sector

Burnt out wrecks who’d be a massive liability !! You’d better start working on your knowledge and get a taxi license. 😉😉

Currently looking for a van to convert, and people are asking £20k+ (VAT doesn’t help) for 5yr olds with 130,000 miles, hence my surprise.

I know, I’m seeing this as well. £6,0000-8,0000 van with £6,000 conversion becomes £20,000 van.

I’d love to know where you can get a converted Sprinter for £8k.

Loads out there for that and less. It just won’t be a late model factory conversion.

I’m sure a few crims use sites ike this for research and I don’t want to put too much detail on my setup.

I’m sure they don’t. Whats your concern OP ? Are you worried someone might steal your toys!! If so lock them up and make sure their insured, make it your insurers problem not yours. If you have personal safety issues get professionals in. Cameras are 90% deterrent, hiding them is largely pointless in all but a few scenarios.

So wot we learnt here is ebikers can be dicks and non ebikers can be dicks but having an ebike doesn’t make you a dick and having a non ebike dont make you a dick.

Not true IMHO, the act of having a motor and instantly becoming superior turns some people into dicks 🙁. Think how some perfectly sane people become when they drive a car. Obviously no Stw posters included in this generalisation, but E-mtbs are more attractive to your average dick than normal bikes. This is all true but E-mtb riders just wont admit it.

You’re all one pay check or a divorce away from life on the streets. Your judgement will be reflected on you.

Honestly most people aren’t. If you don’t suffer from untreated mental health issues without support of family or friends, aren’t an alcholic, drug addict not seeking help, again without a support network. If you aren’t someone continuously incapable of living within the terms of tenancy agreement, if you aren’t repeatedly guilty of anti social, criminal behaviour ect, ect, ect its hugely unlikely you’ll become one of the few thousand rough sleepers currently in the Uk.
Once on the streets its not easy, but there are pathways to permanent accommodation, but many choose to not take them. It’s hard for people to understand such people’s motivations but if people either through choice or circumstances become square shaped it’s hard to force them into societies round holes.

Not all “leave” voters are racist.

Some certainly are, but most I know just dislike the EU as an institution and think the UK would be better of out of it. Nothing really to do with “foreigners” at all.

Ebikes aren’t legal for 10yr olds. The law says 14 and over in the UK I’m afraid.

As an academic exercise, wouldn’t this only apply for on-road use and not off-road?

At 14 you can ride an ebike as and where you would a normal bicycle. I’d bet this would be the case in all public places. Under 14s private land only.

Not normally up untill about 9pm. All locked after that for bed. I just don’t like the feeling of locking myself in rather than locking the world out. Sure someone might come in, but it’s not very likely.

That poll found that one in three people knew little or nothing about the Holocaust, and an average of 5% said they had never heard of it.

So thats 1 in 20. If you’ve not heard of it you couldn’t say you believe or not believe.
Certainly here in Wales the Holocaust is covered in great detail in school. Both of mine have a full knowledge of events, I’m not sure how much more schools could do.

having the Uber App on your phone doesn’t show beyond doubt intent to use it.

No, but it refutes the augment that if you don’t have any money you can’t get a cab and you might return to the car. Remember you have to Show/prove that you have no intention of driving, it’s just something that might might help it doesn’t as of itself prove anything.
Anyway it’s worth having because you get a great service at a good price (providing your in a coverage area), and if the gods are really shinning on you I might be your driver 👍👍👍

It seemed like it ran in families and it was normal for them to be there.
I was astonished at the lack of respect the system.

Your right, for some it’s just a jolly day out, some minor inconvenience. And for believers in progress justice, I’ve heard this time and time again from scrouts I’ve picked up. If you don’t get a prison sentence you’ve got of with it. The only fear in court is from law abiding people like the OP who’ve made a “mistake”.

Uber what ? I guess you assume that Uber is nation wide…..it’s not.

As an uber driver I obviously know, just a lame plug for buisness, my fault for forgetting the wink emoji 🙄

put it to you (Rumpole mode) that on finding out you couldn’t get home for 73p in loose coppers, that with judgement impaired you would have returned to the car and driven it home.

I think your right. Another reason to download the uber app, you can get home no cash required.

No one who knows Cardiff is allowed to laugh at this suggestion. You’ll be on Penarth road anyway so follow it back in towards town and try “The Grange”. Historically a dump drinking den, but has new owners who’ve given it a complete makeover, craft beers, interesting menu the lot. I’ve been there a few times and am happy to reccomend it. There might be a local or two in there, but their quite tame.

One of the guys on the course was done for walking his motorcycle back from the pub. Have to put keys into ignition to unlock the steering.
    Education is key.

He certainly left himself open to prosecution there !!! Why not just lock it and leave it at the pub.

If you haven’t already been convicted definitely see a lawyer who specialises in motoring offences.
Technically you were drunk in charge, but according to the link above your actions should give you the defence “of not having any intention to drive”. Good luck anyway, from you description of events it doesn’t sound like you had any intention of DD so you shouldn’t be convicted of it.

    Edit.
Just seen the OP’s last post 🙁

A friend of mine bought a second hand Whyte t-129. Unfortunately the S/arm broke, he popped into the lical dealer just to price a repair up. A quick phone call to Whyte by the shop resulted in a new S/arm all fitted for free.
For that alone I’d recommend the 529. The fact its a good bike aswell is a bonus !!

Generally no more than a week. I’m far to impatient to order something with a lomg lead time, if it’s not in stock and ready to go I’ll get something else, it’s just a bike in the end. Waited a few weeks for a custom steel road frame, but the builder got started as soon as I gave him my specs and I got weekly picture updates so I always knew what was going on 👍

It makes no sense for the same person to keep returning, unless he/she has an agenda. I’d definitely go with a few prominent signs explaining the situation.

Have a real think about what type of riding your going to be doing. I’ve just gone to H/T as my only mtb and it’s great for how and where I ride these days. But if I was to get an E-mtb (I won’t) it would be to go faster on the bits that I’m currently slow. Going faster all the time would definitely beat me up more and not be as much fun. With an engine negating the weight penalty I’m not seeing the point in not having at least a bit of rear suspension.

If it’s legal to move of the drive, try a push or tow start. See if the thing runs before spending any more money.

I’ve got a ebay repair set for emergencies. Used ut a couple of times and it works great. If the tyres nearly worn out I’d leave it in untill I changed the tyre. Both times I used it it was with tyres that had loads of life so I got a proper repair done. The tyre fitter thought the anchovies did a pretty good job and didn’t see any reason why they’d fail in short time use.
