What are you having done ? You might be able to do some turbo training stuff quite quickly if your lucky. Only time I had a month of was for an ACL reconstruction, that was of from work I couldn’t ride properly for ages and my fitness took a huge dip. It does come back though.

The young asian lad was being intimidated by the fascist scumbag and lost his patience,

I didn’t get that at all. To me it looked like the lad was thinking “what’s this idiot on about”. He had a little smile and threw the milkshake to make himself look tough and for the attention. Total handbags and no need for the police, except perhaps for the criminal waste of a milkshake !!

As long as Ineos are involved I’ve switched off. Shame on several levels.

You might as well give up watching all professional sport then. Or do you vet every sponsor, share holder, employee ect,ect of every team to see if their worthy of your precious attention.

. But the whole thing about a sportive is it’s not a race.

We all know its not a race, but the Velo is very close. Closed roads, timming and the results list you in order of your finishing time, so all but a race in name.
But whether it is or not plenty of riders put as much effort into training and preperation as “proper” racers do. Their goals whether its to just finish or go under 5hrs are just as valid as any cat3-4’s racing ambitions.

Whatever the problem, with a car that age I’d get a egr blanking plate of ebay. Yes you can argue it will cause more pollution, but not much and a better running car will pollute less in other areas. Your choice.

I think you could do it providing you get in the right group. I managed a 19.3mph average for the 2015 welsh velo. At that time (or now) there’s no way I could have managed a solo windy 75 miles at 18mph. When you enter you’ve got to be optimistic about your estimated finnishing time. Otherwise your stuck back with all the riffraff like MG experienced 😉. With a bit more prep I could have done 20mph+ easily. The group I was in were over 22mph untill the bottom of the Tumble when it all fell apart. It was leapfrogging from group to group for me then.

First time for me, full route with extra loop obviously 😉 I’ll be on a hard tail as thats all I’ve got anyway 👍 I’m old and boring, is the quite part of the campsite “quite” or just less noisy ? I’ve heard things can get pretty boisterous!!

Mrs taxi has had them twice. Worked well for her and has allowed her back to stabilise and she’s been largely pain free for the last 4yrs.
It’s a bit hit or miss though, when she had it done of the 8 people who had it on the same day with her it only worked for 2 of them.

I can’t see how they can get £15k’s worth of van chassis and put £20k’s worth of caravan on the back and make it add up to £60k

My father, sadly no longer with us was well ahead of the curve on this.
His plan was to buy a cheap flat bed truck and bolt an old residential caravan to it. Instant motorhome at minimum cost !!!
Thank heavens it wasn’t one of his ideas that came to fruition 😂😂

. The costs to the environment, and chaos on the roads, it causes are beyond ridiculous.

The op’s set up shouldn’t cause chaos or at least no more than any other vehicle towing a trailer, certainly less than a lower powered car towing a smaller caravan.
Regarding it’s environmental impact, less than a family jetting of somewhere for a holiday ??
I’m guessing the fact that it’s an expensive bit of kit is raising a few jealous hackles 😁
Regarding what people do on holiday, it’s s a totally personal thing. No one thing has anymore merit than another.

Encourage family members to start an account with a local credit union?

Deffinetly this, your plan as said is very thoughtful, but relative’s and money is a world of pain 🙁

My first two gxp B/B’s lasted about 3mnths each, I fitted a third but then bought a Hope BB and some adaptor’s. You guessed it the last GXP refuses to die, and I’m dying to fit the blingy orange Hope 😂

Saves hours of time every week messing around with shampoo, gel, etc.

I’d say looking after my hair takes minutes not hours. It gets washed when I shower, an extra minute or two, towled dry and brushed into place, another minute or two, true I get it cut once a month. That costs £8 but it’s worth it to catch up with Mario’s gossip 👍👍

Got to love it when celebs are saving the planet 🙄🙄

Officers surrounded a pink boat in Oxford Circus as actress Dame Emma Thompson told activists her generation had “failed young people”.

More than 570 people have been arrested at protests this week in Oxford Circus, Parliament Square and Waterloo Bridge

Dame Emma joined the protests after flying from Los Angeles on Thursday.

    From another BBC article.

Flying would have to be restricted. Severely.

“You could have an air flight every couple of years, but we can’t allow the world to continue flying for hen parties in New York every couple of weeks,” said Paul Allen who co-ordinates the Zero Carbon Britain research project.

“The numbers don’t stack up. We can’t do this, we have to be honest with ourselves.”

Particularly love the “we” can’t allow the world to continue flying, unless you Emma Thompson ofcourse 😎😎

Got one in Italy, driving back over the causway from Venice. Got the taken €40 thing from car hire company and then the fixed penalty notice. I paid nearly €100 in total. Worth it for the peace of mind.
Nearly 30yrs ago I had a “driving without due care thing” in California. I ignored it and spent years worrying about extrodinary rendition, and was to scared to go back over. When I did I was a bit tense about a red light flashing at immigration.

. Kids can be dicks but then they’re only human.

Not so sure about that 🤔 Eventually they might, but it takes absolutely ages. I’ve always felt up to a certain age parents should have the option of killing them ( or at least a severe tasering) and starting over with a new bunch.

They only way we’ll save the planet is by at least a 50% population cull.

100% I’ve not heard a single thing that could be realisticly achieved on a global basis from these protesters. There all just vacuous, childish, self indulgent exhibitionists.
Climate change is a done deal, that doesn’t mean reasonable actions shouldn’t be encouraged, but the level of authoritarian control needed to enact some “green” policies will never happen in a modern democracy.

The only reason I’d be wearing baggies over my lycra is if It was wet and I wanted waterproofs

I do off road all the time, adds a layer of protection and the baggies being made of tougher material protect expensive bib shorts.
Can’t ride with just baggies even lined ones, there just not tight enough to keep everything under control and out of danger 😟

As a kid Strawberries were a seasonal Summer treat. My mother used to serve them sprinkled with sugar then cream poured on top. The best bit was the sugar infused cream left at the bottom of the dish. As an adult if Mrs taxi is out I’ll stir 3-4 tablespoons of sugar into half pint of double cream and eat it out if the carton. Not for those counting calories 😉

Yes, because it doesn’t matter what the injury is, if you need carted off the hill it’s always going to cost around the same amount for them to do

True, I was having a little dig at someone being rescued from a sprained ankle. But if it’s covered by insurance ir doesn’t matter if the cost was €430, €4,300 or €43,000.

Price for rescue sounds about right.

Maybe it is, but is it the normal
price to be rescued from a sprained ankle ??

. I’ll ask the estate administrator how it’s checked next time I see here – that’ll be interesting!

When I settled my fathers estate I was the sole executor. There were no checks on how I distributed his estate, it was purely up to me to see it was done in accordance of his wishes. As it was everyone who was to receive something was aware they were in the will so no suprises, and the will does become a part of the public record. But you stand in the probate office and swear on oath, that hopefully should be enough.

, it’s feeling like a much more fun, livelier bike with the recent mods. might even go get really modern and go tubeless one day!

This is what ridings all about for me. I’ll happily swap a bit of grip for a fast rolling lively feel. Currently got a Ron on the front and a Ralph on the back. Deffinetly go tubless concrete, being able to drop your tyre pressure helps with grip tremendously 👍👍

Has the UCI actually got any legal power to ban members from other competition?

I don’t imagine they can ban you from riding in anything. But if you want to ride in a uci event after ridding in a “banned” event, they could refuse entry or impose a penalty before they let you compete.
I’m sure a uci license has it in the small print.

I like the sweeping statements that no body likes the British, specifically English. Highly doubt that is true at all. The people I hear on here disliking us, tend to be one of us.

Never experienced general dislike for British people on my travels. Obviously the actions of a few aren’t welcomed, but I remember English football fans fighting in Marseille one world cup or something. It was reported that in some quarters the Marseillais showed appreciation for the English “fighting spirit”. Chapeau les Rosbifs.

It’s explained here, including the not twice and points being spent.

By late 2011 he had accrued 21 penalty points on his standard UK driving licence, having been caught speeding several times in his Transit van. He avoided a driving ban when on 18 points,

The way it works (as explained to me) is once you commit an offence that gets you to 12 or more the matter has to be dealt with by the courts. In my case I committed the offence that would give me 12 points at the beginning of December. I didn’t go to court until August of the following year and until then I could continue to drive. Any offences committed untill I went to court were held in abayance until then. So 12,15,18 ect could all be accumulating. But once dealt with and your allowed to drive with 18 or whatever points you couldn’t go back to court and plead extreme hardship the second time, not until the points were spent.
If this does happen it’s not how things were explained to me.

the people driving around with 20+ points who just plead necessity and get to keep their license after each offence.

This isn’t true, if you’ve got 20+ points it’s because most would have been accumulated in more or less one hit. If you get 12 points or more and claim extreme hardship you get a 12mnth ban not the 6mnths for subsequent offences. It was made quite clear to me by my solicitor and the court that extreme hardship couldn’t be claimed again untill all the points I had were spent.

Being the most multicultural and least racist nation in Europe. Easily.

This is true, it’s also a British thing to fail to acknowledge it.

As a regular attendee if I was invited to a 3 night stag celebration in a hired cottage but knew I could only stay for one I would accept appreciating I would have to pay for all 3 as I had reserved a bed for the event rather than offload the cost on to others to pay for my empty bed.

This is a good point, if you can’t make all 3 days you sort out your own accommodation for one night. This doesn’t however help at this juncture.

calling for a public vote in order to get deal through. He wants Mays deal vs Revoke

With hindsight the initial referendum should have been in two parts.
    Q.1
Do you wish the goverment to begin negotiations to leave the EU.
    Q.2
Do you wish the goverment to enact the negotiated leaving deal.
But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I’m not a fan of these going away multi day stag do’s. I’ll only go on them if it’s family or close freinds and then nothing to organized or extravagant. But £200 for accommodation isn’t over the top for these things, although that doesn’t help if you simply can’t afford it. It’s time for people to rally round a bit then, but this only works if everyone are good freinds.
I yearn for the days of stag do’s being a local pub crawl, perhaps with a sleazy stripogram thrown in for good measure. Brings back happy memories 😁😁
