The list of things that make me slow down are:
It being steep
Tight bends
Signs telling me it’s steep
Loose gravel
Crap road surfaces
Not knowing what the road layout is
No barriers at the side of the road
Drops at the side of the road
Bushes at the side of the road
Traffic

All pretty sensible reasons to slow down a bit. But if your getting dropped by club mates your probably being a bit over cautious.
Relax and trust your bike, over time familiarity will increase your confidence. And as said get into the drops and get low, you’ll feel much more stable and in control.

Juiced

Phenomenal to watch though

No.1 ranked cyclist in the world by a long way, in the form of his life puts in a fabulous performance!!! Who would think its possible 🙄🙄

I was just waiting for the usual suspects to come up with the doping bollocks, and this thread to sink into the mire. Maybe he is, but untill some “actuall evidence” comes up why not enjoy his performances for what they are, pure brilliance.

I hope not, certainly not based on the current home nations. I’m Welsh but certainly don’t have any nationalistic asperations. All I want is competent goverment (I know, I know). My needs and wants aren’t any different from someone say in the W.Midlands, population wise considerably larger than Wales. The fact we might live a couple of miles apart doesn’t somehow make us different.

I had a 2016 scout 290 pro fir a couple of years. Enjoyed it, a good all rounder. Deffinetly stiff but not a problem for me as it was my fun in the woods bike. Stable and planted descending and climbed pretty well, held a line and didn’t wander about. I agree it’s not the longest bike, I’m 6ft on a large and sometimes felt like putting a slightly longer stem on it. The fact I didn’t shows it was ok for most things. There good bikes, definitely one to at least consider.

Regarding banana skins decomposing the emphasis is on “can”. Dried out and left undisturbed they’d probably hang aroumd for longer than 2 years. Fully exposed to the worst facets of the British environment there’s going to be nothing recognisable in a much shorter time.
Should you throw them away ? In some circumstances I’d agree it wouldn’t do any harm, but if your somewhere that might get a significant amount dropped apart from being unsightly it quite possibly might. To save having to make a decision just take everything home with you, that way there’s no chance of getting it wrong.

Ties.
Wear one if you like but don’t insist others should.

Listen I want to dress like a 17th Century Croatian Mercenary and I bloody will. Don’t embarrass me by not joining in.

STW delivers again, I had no idea Croation Mercenaries invented the necktie !!!!
It’s not a bad look 😉

nearest gas station near me now

There’s nothing much I find incomprehensible, different folks different strokes. But why do pedestrians cross the road without looking whith the red man still showing, the traffic stopping from one direction only means its coming from another !!!!@

Surely it’s utterly selfish to ride like that on public paths where there is the risk of collateral damage to other users who are not expecting your gnarrsomeness to come hurtling round the blind corner?

It is, but people are still going to ride like that. Open access just makes it more noticeable by bringing it on to what are still predominantly footpaths.

then insist on riding at 10mph or less everywhere

But thats the thing, you win the right to cycle on footpaths how fast do you ride on them ? Certainly not fast enough to cause alarm or be any sort of danger. That leaves your cycling rambling.

Difficult one, Mrs taxi broke a toe a couple of weeks ago. After 4hrs in AE without being seen she decided it wasn’t worth bothering them about and went home 😂
You hands are more important though, depending on what you do can you strap it and rest it properly. If not you might get complications with it healing.

Take the airfilter out, that’ll get the emissions down a bit if you just want to get it through the Mot. But getting it serviced and tuned properly is what you should be doing.

TJ has got it right, obey the access code and protect our rights.

This is true, but also highlights the problem with open access. It’s great if your riding is basically “rambling on a bicycle” and thats ok for those who enjoy that kind of thing. But for many mtb’ing is an adrenaline sport/pastime, or at least partly. There will always be those who push things and conflict is inevitable, an access code is something that can be used against all mtbing. IMHO having some places that people can walk without having to worry about being clattered by a Mtb is a good thing. Maybe have routes designated, primarily walking but cyclists have access and primarily cycling that walkers have access to. Horse riders can sort there own thing out.

And with gears, I can put the hammers down wherever I am riding, even on the flat.

I did SS when it was the thing. But I was racing at the time and found all the not pedalling hard down time was loosing me fitness.
Still fun though and a definite +1 if you’ve got the space.

does anyone actually pay attention to who is on the money anyway.

In a passing sort of way. But without going into their wallet/purse I’d bet the majority can’t recollect who’s on our bank notes already.
Alan Turing is a fine choice for the new £50 and nobody is going to be offended, those who might be wouldn’t know who he was or even that he was gay. That won’t of course stop some people hoping there’ll be a fuss about him being on the note, purely for the pleasure they’ll get by being offended by the offended. 😁😁

If your going to Argos just wait and see what they say before over thinking things. Worst case is £120 for chainstaty and the same for the top tupe. If they paint it another £160 so it comes back like new for £400. £240 if you want to paint it yourself.
I’d be tempted to pay the £400 if it was something I really liked. You’ve already stated some good reasons for doing so.

There’s plenty of gravel bike friendly trails North of Cardiff. I’ve done this route on a Cyclocross bike, it makes a nice hour or two out on more or less any bike.

The ambassador’s assesment of Trump might very well be correct, he might not be in any way to blame for the leak, but once his comments became public his position became untenable. He has to be able to work with the Trump regime or there’s no point him being there. In fact i’m suprised he took so long to resign, totally unfortunate but that’s life and life isn’t fair.

The 50% +10% pa is a reasonable starting point. But doesn’t really work with something thats desirable, originally discounted and in immaculate condition. I’d recommend the said bike to someone at £1,300, it seems a fair price.

The whole thing is very odd. It doesn’t matter whether individuals might be ok with a particular film. lf its to be shown in class more or less all the children and their parents have to be ok with it.
A 15 film with the C and F word in it isn’t ok to be shown in primary school, it just isn’t !! My feeling is that this is purely the teachers choice, he hasn’t thought it through or run it past a more senior staff member. Your obviously concerned so call the school and speak to someone higher up the food chain.

. Also, with an 11-46 there’s a bit of an annoying jump between 37 and 46.

The suntour mx8 has a much more freindly 40 to 46 jump.

Effectively you’ll loose one of the bottom and two of the top. If you can live with that it’s all good. It took me ages to go over to 1x, not saying its a life changer but there’s no reason I’d ever go back.

but the same can be said about the Welsh and maybe the Scottish. Although hardly the worst thing in life to worry about.

Come to Wales, plenty of Dragon symbols here 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧.
Only thing odd is people detesting their country so much, that a subtle display of their nations flag by a politician seeking high office is judged as derisory 🙁

Well I didn’t get the sense that the OP was “complaining” about the cost. Only that it was expensive (it is) and was asking how people afforded it. Only answer really is some can some can’t. Unless you want to make sacrifices in other areas it’s a matter of picking and choosing what events to attend. Pick the lower key grass root type things, try and stay as local as possible and things become more manageable.
The only thing to worry about is if JR starts to show real talent !! You’ll find it harder then not to do the big events, get all the kit and start chasing things. That’s when the costs really start to ramp up.

I’d reckon getting up a proper 25% slope, not just a short ramp would be a massive effort for an amateur rider on a road bike with normal road gearing.

I’d kill to be able to do 6.7kph on a 25% hill!

It seemed to suggest 390w with a 70kg rider !! So you and me both 😟

White Range Rovers seem to be the weapon of choice in S.Wales at the moment.
And yes it’s all about the driver but certain types of car are more attractive to aggressive, arrogant drivers.

If your 6ft Pauls cycles have a caad12 for £1250. You won’t go wrong buying that bike.

As tj says you can replicate it by speed. Using the calculator below it appears if I’ve used it right you go from 6.7kph to 17kph.
