find them fab & simple to use, tend to have some oakleys clamped in place most of the time tho…also used them extensive for some pretty grim caving trips, again no probllems.

p.s. you can get little tiny bottles of saline solution which make for a good eye wash if required

brilliant response…like em all…answered first, thought about canal engineering , however after revieingv the geogrpahies I'd now propose that our O.S. maps are the greatest (civil) enginering 'landmark' of them all…(discuss / dispute if u like…)

enigma bikes – titanium frame repairs

Once you have Oranges opinion about the state of the frameset…it could be worth contacting these people called Enigma (fomerly called Omega I think) who offer ti repairs … price don't look to severe either I have an old retro frame I've been considering sending to them for awhile…goodluck!

I have often been very impressed by various features found along the canal network for e.g the Anderton Lift on the Trent & Mersey Canal is a very impressive sight…

not sure about price…but on RetroBike site there is a specific thread just for valuing stuff if your really unsure. Folk seem to prefer just buying frame only , and individual components so be prepared for that is you go down that route…personally I'd keep one of them for a 'rainy day' – nice bikes!

The book i refered to is a mint production…infact it won a John Bartholemew Award for Excellence in Cartography!

Check it out…not so much for route finding propaganda but more mellow general histical geographies of canals n' super clear maps of where things are are at now (circa late c.20)

basically eh? get riding down the man-made singletrack – (tow)path n'ride (original trail centre circa C.18th calling you!)

for route planning such a tour refer to Britains Waterways A unique insight by Brian Roberts, Geo Projects (1999 , 2006)

Have no idea where you can buy this book, I found a copy in the shop at the end of my street! However it is an excellent production, consisting of maps and words about waterway's in the U.K…

try too classified on RetroBike.co.uk if your after a specific model vinatge / colour (Diacompe SS7s were my personal fave) for the job

funny i used top have a regualr commute down a towpath & never gave it a thought (and was working as a rights of way officer at the time!)…being ultra carfeul & considerate to other users of the path goes with out saying , especially given the water n' low / thin bridges found on most routes. Never had difficulties enroute.

Thinking about it I geuss BITD all were used by horses for towing the barges, so whilst many / ? most are not classed today as Bridleways they prehaps have similar access rights?

this brings back fond memories of bouncing back into double history

LOL! "Now taking you to… Band 4."

Have been playing those sets all week :D

Besides, if you were in charge of a magazine's design it would look like something out of Happenin' Sports circa 1991, accompanied by numerous arcane (& Tolkien-esque) maps & devoted entirely to Stockhill Woods. [/i]

noteeth sounds like an awesome magazine er concept…I think each issue would also come with a a free covermounted "mix" tape. But would Mint Sauce be in there

MBUK is still a good, especialy at capturing the fun and diversity of the sport, am glad Mint still has a place there

Yep Balfa are the distributors for Foes in the U.K…am building up a FXR (bought off here) for the upcoming season myself – looks like it will be an amazing bike–rode with the Norweigan Foes lot end of last summer, was extremely impressed.

ah and that's where capitalism gets all messy…in a stange fashion / fabrictations food chain turn of fate a former Timberland head honch now has a hand with Indy Fab as a some kinda mentor…not making any particular point there but just an observation.

If it ever is or was a biking brand? dunno they make some nice stuff, with seemingly good intentions…but frankly my ideal for the company to be like a wonderful welsh patagonia / pattagucci has never quite shown up. i.e 'water proof jeans' doh! a possibly a product like when Homer Simpson get to design a his dream car

a thread that was started several months ago , and then reappears that's quite chilled out in itself what ever particular track…that KLFs tape is well wicked , (fond, fond memories) but something surely from Dr (not Deore) LX , something by The Orb ?

Oh no they're not!…Actually they are, as I heard it was okay to wear long trousers for cyling but only if they had been made from Reynolds 853 tubing (like drainpipe jeans but lighter & stronger)

Interesting. With reference to the OP…"that they (the machinist) could make fairly easily" …no doubt they could, (in a Blue Peter style 'here's one we made earlier style). Howevere it seems to me that there's much more too engineering than just making something.

For instance could the same folk, design , develop, manufacture, market, and support the product? Then repeat for other products. It seems Hope Technology can do all that, and do it very well indeed. There was a imformative interview in an old issue of STrkMag which covered a some of the things mentioned in this thread…in particular the 'Hope' look was mentioned.

I just wish they'd get on and make some nice flat pedals.. What with it being the last product on a bike with bearings that they haven't yet produced…maybe that seatpost took up all the prototyping time!

the locals use this forum , go to bit called "utflukt" to arrange regualr rides , that'd be the best way to get some friendly riders to show you around , or join a group ride etc.

dunno about the transport or accom bit…but it's true about the uplift train! (insane) :o

like the DH bike idea! could be one Cannondales crazy & complex full sussers then ? – or something made during the craze for 'thermoplastic'

hmmm interesting…based on the past experiences and personal taste one retro bike philosphy / crtitera could be something along the lines of

what i wished i rode then BITD / Halcyon era of riding (choose a date),

what could actually ride / afford … then elevate these aspirational / inspirational frames to near mythical machines of yore / right now
    = phuture classics…

Clearly this ain't quite correct…but it seems to be how the trend works.

As to future classics…have no ideas really but something prehaps something by Orange (popular) or Foes (similar engineering ethic but more boutique / exspensive)

    1. exemplary cutting edge frame designs
    2. people who make their own stuff , in their own workshops (probably out of metal)
    3. what's good now…is good in the future…it certainly was in the past

actually, more seriously i think noteeth knows best…other than the drivel about DirtRag drawings.

What would be fab would a Tintin / Asterix / stylee full on picture book… now that's a starting a thread for… (if your reading this JoB)
