i just started riding a HOPE trails / singlepeed hub , and it even louder – better engagement. Not sure it bothers me….yet! although I did put the back brake on today whilst carry the bike just to gte tranquilty whislt hiking…Chris King make quite a mad sound too probably quieter , but much more high frequency.

Have heard you can reduce the noise on HOPE by chaning the lube used inside? Not sure if this means swapping grease for oil or packing it out with grease to deaden the noise?

Still, so far am appreciating the solid engagement >any noise

I recall BITD the day Shimano marketed / made a 'silent clutch' style instant engagement system on one of thier hybrid / experimental \ mid range groupsets BITD.

actually what if mtb'ing is the current demographic equivalent of Rambling?

When Ramblers' started the (social)movement, like the Kinder Mass Tresspass …Ramblers (as they were in the 1930s?), was far radder than any of today's FreeRide Collectivised nonsense.

So repspect to Rad ramblers both new skool & old style actusally.

In the O.S. mapping classification sheme / spec. "White Roads" = Unclassified Roads … i.e not considered as Public Highway at the time of original suvery (BITD). Specifically O.S: Surveyors were tasked not to map or inquire into the status of Public Rights of Way (an ever evolving idea). So in short yes? … but maybe get a flak jacket!

ah cool pics!…a sterling effort in taking so many pics!

noteeth – G was there, and I arrived onto the start line in full Scando-supprise Inkoginoto style. The whole thing was super mellow, still think team tea time effort more fun than the Han Solo thing tho' (hint for next yr)

    noteeth…

    it was so fresh I can't remember…

    ride it, just ride it!

actually it was as awesome as ever…brilliant atmosphere, quite inclement but smooth, conditons, accidently rode 16 laps, could of put in a few more but slept thru' the crucial KLF lap time -doh. Finest of all was a fresh Gem on at HQ for afters…ah like a singlepseed superstar! (not).

…some of the other details were even madder, but survived in a ramshackle style, lost count of how may laps was doing and was suprised to find had done 16 … probably could have managed more but my sleeping bags (x2) trapped me for a quite few hours as well!.

Swedish brand POC seem to make some interesting and versatile looking kit.

No experience of it myself, never felt the need…also have a slightly unfounded idea that once you start wearing it you'd become 'dependent' on it, and not ride as well when you left it at home? Just a thought.

Obvioulsy I always wear a helmet (Giro Xen)…and like most folk I know it saved me from savage situations.

drinking hilarously named and priced (if you don't reside in Norway)Ass Ice Beer (complete with Peguins on the can) … a nice post ride rinser after Fjordside snow-free singletrack (+ remembered to buy some in advance).

listening: DiY Collective playing Lakota 1992 …track actually some groovy mix based around the Shamen n LSI…actually now it's changed.

Shame equipment reviews cannot be as fun to read as this tread?!

Didn't know they subbed out the manufacturing too that obscure ouitfit known as Wrank Bothers?

Always felt (IMHO) it gear was over designed / over styled…and the original product (the eggbeater) which I used for awhile quickly got scrambled. That said BITD nearly all the top-end / aftermarket kit was of this 'standard'…it does highlight how much progression has taken place in the stuff we use overall

am equally sceptical too…but i've run mine intenisvely for more than a season now…the only attention they have recived from me was the occassional twiddle of the various dials…and a bit of looking at them closely! quite satisifed with that.
